There are several flatscreen TVs in the bar/restaurant and in the social club fun room. The bar & restaurant is open to the public and they offer daily happy hour from 4-6pm. The food menu offerings include a selection of appetizers, salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, brick oven pizzas, tacos, mac & cheese and bowls. The bar has 5 draft beers, beer bottles/cans, wine, mixed drinks and cocktails. The pizza brick oven is in the corner of the room. I stopped by Black Rock after work. I took a seat up at the bar and the bartender greeted me and offered an ice water. For food, I ordered 2 Chicken Tacos ($6 plus tax - happy hour), 2 Fish Tacos ($6 plus tax - happy hour), and Mac & Cheese ($11 plus tax). I watched football highlights on the TV while my food was being prepared. The food came out together in 13 minutes. The chicken tacos came in grilled soft shells filled with diced grilled chicken, pico de gallo, mango salsa, cilantro & limes on the side. The fish tacos came in grilled soft shells filled with crispy fried haddock (oily), pico de gallo, mango salsa, cilantro, & cabbage slaw & limes on the side. The mac & cheese came in a hot skillet with firm Orecchiette pasta smothered in a cheese blend sauce and topped with brown buttered panko. The food I had was really good. After I finished my food, I got the check which was $24.96 with tax and before tip. The service was spot on and prompt with the used dishes being cleared quickly After eating, I checked out the fun room. The owner gave me a brief tour of the games. I played a round in the shooting simulator (hunting), similar to playing Duck Hunt, lol. I will keep this place on my list for my next group outing in Portsmouth.

The club was taken over by a young prominent member of the Portuguese community, Helio Demelo Jr. His Father Helio "Al " Demelo had been a board member for 30 plus years. Helio Jr. is really making the place great with events, food and dances. I like what they are doing because its a great crowd now and some really beautiful Portuguese women! I mean, I've never actually went in any of the stores here because 1) parking sucks. 2) the stores seem to never be open. 3) There is always stores changing hands so you never know whats there. 4) I would likely get sucked in to peddlers rather than trying to figure out what to look at. I guess they could do better advertising or have better retail hours (like during the times most other folks are not working). Just a thought. I don't know how a string of 3 or 4 storefronts constitutes a "district" in little old Haverhill, but I wouldn't give anyone false high hopes that this place is "hip"
