As we left the hotel by the port the Norwegian Epic was arriving - we've spent hundreds of nights aboard it. This airport is about 15 minutes from Alicante city centre. On our way in 10:30 night time 9 days ago the taxi lady meandered and took a long time charging £24 and on our way out at 5am this morning 17 April 24 the taxi man took carriageway the whole way at a real pace and £17. It's a fairly compact airport and the taxi rolled up to the door right next to a busy Starbucks - folks getting caffeinated for their red eye flights hither and tither. Once inside you can't miss a giant Tim Horton's and a big Canada logo. We won't do Timmie's as he's (well he's dead by his own hand) his brand is in Northern Ireland a while and serves rubbish coffee and even more rubbish food. Security here was a dawdle and they are all so courteous. Once airside we bought from a local Spanish cafe as I'd rather be ripped - off by a Spanish local than an American or Canadian global brand. Being ripped off is a cert. It's not often I give an airport 5 stars but this place was almost pleasant.

There are several restaurants inside the post security zone: Subway, Starbucks, Chocolatería Valor, Rodilla, Cañas y Tapas, Burger King. Most if them are closed at night. The duty free shop is more expensive than regular stores in Spain. Buy wine and olive oil before you go to the airport. Currency exchange office offers rip off rates as it always happens in airports. Seriously - nothing to complain about, not a typical situation for an airport. Flew in and out this airport probably a hundred times. All issues I ever experienced were due to air controllers strikes in France. Cruel people! Spain rarely offers good service but this time it does. Fly to Alicante!

The food is excellent - a range of home-made breads, pastries, yoghurt, jam and smoothies at breakfast and restaurant-quality fare with professional presentation at dinner. We'll be back to Alicante again soon and look forward to staying with them again - We feel like friends already!

Located right on a nice beach with a small balcony perfect for enjoying a nice cold beer in the sun. The woman who runs the apartments gave us a warm welcome and even offered us a bigger apartment than what we had reserved since it was empty on a slow weekend, it was very much appreciated. The apartment was small, but had the essentials, basic kitchen (sink, water heater, stove), a table for meals, one double bed, one futon and a nice terrace with a table and four chairs. It was small, but great views of the entire beach. The only thing missing was a anti-mosquito plug-in, there were a few flying around. Overall, it was a pleasant beach weekend and the best part was the location about 10 meters from the sand.

I had some issues at the beginning with the reservation ( connected rooms were not really connected) but the staff was made aware and I could change rooms 2 days later. For the troubled start we got fruits on the room. The gym and the rooms are in good shape and clean. Room service is also available and the cleaning maids take good care of your room. Another little issue we had was with the key cards. Or they did not open the Gym, or they did not open the garage or even the room. The staff told us it could be that we are leaving the key card close to the cel phone. But we did not do this. Anyhow staff was pleasant and always solved the little issues during our stay.
