Made the mistake of…read morecalling them and had three chaotic attempts with contract receptionists who wouldn't say if they were in the CPA firm or a pooled resource. Was forwarded to voice mail to another person not listed with Ron Allen in their ad. Struggled with unprofessional and incognizant receptionist who wanted to act as an information filter to send Mr Allen a message. I finally checked their website which didn't list the other person they had finally allowed me to leave a message on voice mail for, so I'm now totally confused. But I made a 4th attempt and used the web contact portal to describe my needs for CPA services which were several and my timeliness for getting a yes/no response within a few days. It's the 3rd day and no call back, text, or email whether they are available, interested, or unable to engage for any reason. Having been a registered professional engineer I find this pretty abysmal since there was no "out of office" voice mail greeting. At best they need to work with their receptionist. At the worst they need to check their Voicemail and consider getting a clerk who can marshal their front end business interface who knows which CPA services and customers they want or will take and not leave people hanging. Long and short I spent time asking professional friends ing for CPA references and I believe I have a tax CPA who meets muster. I don't recommend anyone who runs their business in this way without the courtesy of response as I believe that we were a good match from Mr Allen's advertisement. I have friends who are CPAs and who work for CPAs and I know how busy and hard they work, so perhaps it is just growing pains here. Good luck in any case.

Our goal was to find an accounting firm in Dallas that understood our growth mindset and was entrepreneur-friendly. We wanted help with tax preparation and to make sure we were bookkeeping with best practices. It took months and countless unanswered emails to get anywhere with Kelly CPA accountants after the first in person meeting. Our intake form and answers provided were even lost by their office at one point. After calling and being blatantly ignored multiple times by the accountant their first assigned us, they finally assigned a new accountant a few weeks before the deadline to file. I asked multiple times over email and calls to meet in person to review our information since the firm lost our data. He ignored my requests for the in person meeting just like the previous accountant who was assigned. I have major issues with the way they bill. Part of it is my fault - make sure if you use them to get their fees agreed to in writing. They claim they discussed this in person at our first meeting, but we don't have this written down nor do we remember for sure if it was agreed to many months ago. They don't include pricing in the engagement letter, which makes no sense to me. A simple google search shows this business charges 2-3x the average market price for tax returns - definitely worth knowing before signing an engagement letter. Finally, after requesting a sit-down with their bookkeepers to review best practices and being ignored on that, it was clear they weren't a firm that truly cares about supporting small businesses. They have done a great job with their marketing and the millennial friendly office space - but these things definitely duped me.

There are numerous instance where I found his knowledge in tax laws and customer service to be extraordinarily good. For my 2010 tax returns - it took us a long fight with IRS to get my refund, even though I had given up, Jeff insisted that I should get my refund, we had to stay with IRS for multiple hour long calls and finally got my refund on a complex filing. No other tax consultant will be patient and persistent enough to work with IRS to get their clients the fair refund. He never advertises himself as 'maximizing returns' , but very willing to work with you in an optimal return within the confines of the tax laws. Stay away from those who advertise as maximum return - it is an usually a segway for an IRS audit. And he has a wonderful staff who support in the tax filing ! Before finding Jeff, I was alternating between H/R block and filing it myself online. The biggest problem with H/R block is that the tax consultants have no motivation to do a good job, never updated with the latest information and have extremely inconsistent performance from one location to other. Few Tips: (1) Get all your deduction items in order - carry any receipts etc and preferably prepare an excel sheet with all your deduction items (2) If you have any stock trades - you might want to generate the Schedule D yourself - some companies such as TD Ameritrade provide free tools to generate Schedule D - if not you can find one online where you can upload your transactions and the software will generate the Schedule D (3) If you traveled internationally, prepare an excel sheet with each date of travel - if it was a business travel day or if it was a personal travel Finally - keep all the records - receipts, tax filing ... + make some of the notes yourself and keep them in a folder - IRS can audit tax filings and if you get a knock on your door - you want to make sure that you have your papers with you.

Duke is charismatic but runs client credit cards without written estimates, contracts, or agreements for frivolous amounts ($50k each) that exceed anything a Big Four accounting firm would charge. Essentially charging you for services you don't need, want, or use--IN ADVANCE. He will do this privately without the usual procedures involving his client concierge or onboarding agents like Austin or Taylor. Blaming automated billing systems, merchant software, He will say whatever is needed to buy time. It appears as though misappropriated client funds are carrying his business and lifestyle. Everything is "5-10 business days" or "the card is showing as declined on my end". You would think that a licensed tax professional would run meticulous accounting on their business accounts--not here. You will have to pay another more reputable firm to correct everything. Spend countless hours disputing credit card charges. Etc. This is absolutely terrifying that someone like this has all of your most privileged information. Existing clients be sure to check your credit reports!! He is actively being investigated for credit card fraud, EA misconduct, BEWARE!!
