But here's the problem, the bar person let my colleague close the tab, and then charged my card, but wouldn't hand over the card, even after my colleague offered to get me on the phone. So, understand this, they understood enough to charge my card, but not enough to hand said card over to the person who they obviously understood was drinking with me. I now need to travel 45 minutes tomorrow to get my card and license. Really?

The venue itself is pretty big with a large main bar area, a separate dinning room, a pool room, and a rather ramshackle garden (which can sometimes reek from the kitchen extraction fans). They have food specials during the week (think today's, Monday, was Roo and wine night - sounds interesting). All in all a good neighbourhood pub with above average food.

What used to be a standard pub has been transformed into a craft beer bar and micro-brewery. I have to say that it is a pretty cool place to grab a beer, especially with their various options available. They also have a pool table, a small beer garden, and seating out the front (and well as a fancy looking restaurant). What is also cool are the huge vats sitting in the middle of the pub. Another favourite of mine are the tapas style dishes, Sweet Potato and Onion Dumplings, Fried Calamari or Peri Peri Prawn Skewers are just some of the tasty starters on offer; all of which will cost you less than $15 a serve.

"Chloé" is a famous 1875 oil painting by French artist Jules Joseph Lefebvre that has been a Melbourne cultural icon for over a century. During World War I and II, the painting became a mascot for Australian soldiers. Many soldiers would visit "Chloé" for a drink before departing or upon their return, and some even sent letters to her from the front lines. Pat (our tour guide) was full of Australian historical information, and this was definitely a highlight. The meal was good as well, and even more so within this cultural context.

The salmon yuzu arrived before our drinks. The cured salmon was served with grapefruit and pomegranate seeds. The taste was tangy, sour, and soy sauce like, but delicious. Pimms was overly sweet and I could barely taste the alcohol. The lamb shoulder was quite disappointing. Though the meat was tender and it was a large portion size served with crunchy broccoli, beans, brussel sprouts, and zucchini, it lacked flavour. I couldn't taste salt or pepper or anything and there was none on our table. I think it was just lamb cooked in its own juices and that's what we had been served. Quite disappointing.
