We…read morefinally decided to check out Skansen two days before midsummer, mildly apprehensive about the entrance fee since we still couldn't figure out what Skansen was about, but we hoped there would be midsummer decorations. There was confusion about the train route and after speaking to the gate agent, skipped the extra fee for the train to go up the hill. We were here to walk. At first glance, Skansen is a living museum of how things were done in the olden days, replete with actors. There were no midsummer decorations, though I was told the main thing was the may pole, which we had already seen erected on another archipelago. A delightful surprise was the animal farm (with an almost free roaming peacock) and the Nordic animal zoo. This accidental stumble on animals (bears, bison, reindeer, etc) was my favorite part of Skansen. Overall a neat place to spend an afternoon. Would recommend!

Not that you'll find crazy rides but there's entertainment for kids with some rides, plus not to mention the lounging areas, the animals, and so much more. Came here walking from our hotel , you can catch a bus, and it was just beautiful. I highly recommend a visit. This can be an almost all day thing or just come for a few hours like we didn't.

The food was awesome, not very cheap though. My not very high rating is because of the none existence service & very dirty bathrooms. They have sort of this cabin temporary bathrooms that are very tiny & not clean & the soap was also finished. That's wired considering what a big space they have.

When we visited (last day of May), it was gorgeous, with a lot in bloom. There's a cafe where you can get some ice cream and a tropical greenhouse (sadly, both closed just before we arrived), but it was wonderful just to explore the gardens. I got some great photographs of the flowers in bloom when we visited. Definitely a nice place to relax in Uppsala!

I really love the botanical garden in Uppsala! It is just this little oasis in the center close to…read morethe castle and its gardens. There is a greenhouse with a giant water lily and many other beautiful flowers. In summer the garden also has a nice cafe that serves lunch and tappas in the afternoon. Here you can just sit on the gras and enjoy a nice meal and have the feeling that you are sitting in your own backyard.

So spending…read moresome time trying to figure out what to do I came across a link to this place called "Nyckelviken". Had never heard about it before (imagine that), and its only 10 minutes from us. So we went there. Actually, we've been there a few times since. It's a nice little 4H-farm in Nacka. They have cows, rabbits, horses, goats, pigs and chickens. The first time we went there all the animals were in their enclosures and were easy to spot them all. Second time we couldn't find the pigs anywhere and the goats were roaming free .. but baby J liked it either way. ;) They also have a small cafe, and when you're Swedish you have to get some fika when you're out and about. Their sandwiches are good and their coffee and fikabröd as well. I recommend checking this out, its a nice family place
