Life Church has 3 Sunday morning services. 8:30, 10 and 11:30. I attended the 10:00am service. A few things took me by surprise. In order. 1) During the offering the pastor stated that if anyone was food insecure or had no place to stay to reach into the bucket being passed and take cash out if they needed it for food and or shelter. That is the first time in my entire life I have ever heard a pastor say that. That is such a true Biblical form of worship. Just beautiful. 2) When the sermon began I was so surprised to see the pastor was being broadcast on all 3 screens. I didn't see that coming and I was kind of curious where the pastor went? Mainly I was curious if I was watching a recording or a live sermon? Where did he go? 3) I brought my Bible with me but the lights in the sanctuary were never turned on at any point so I didn't open it because of course I wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. The pastor had specific Bible verses pop up on all 3 of his screens as he highlighted them at certain points. He was very engaging as he discussed the book of Ruth in the Old Testament. I didn't stop at the counter but it looks like after service they hand out packaged snacks and cups of iced tea. That's very nice.

I couldn't have gotten through it without all of them. The Care and Connections pastor as well as the Lead pastor both took the time to visit us in the hospital over 3 hours away from home. Other leaders have taken the time to check on us and offer prayer/support. Our small group has also been very supportive and helpful. If you are looking for a caring place to find and follow Jesus this is it.

This church allows you to read and interpret the Bible for yourself, without being told what to…read morebelieve. Members and visitors are accepted and loved for responding to God's love for them, regardless of what social group they may be part of. Scripture is interpreted within the context and setting in which it was written, rather than blindly taking each translated word of every sentence of the Bible literally. People are given the challenge and freedom to question, search, and explore their own faith in God, and the church is a congregation of believers who accept people as they are and attempt to serve God together. South Street Christian Church has a traditional worship service with many elements that are likely at least somewhat familiar to you. There are hymns and prayers and Scripture readings, an anthem by the choir or a solo piece of music, a chance to give an offering, and a sermon. Central to the entire worship service every Sunday, however, is an observance of the Lord's Supper (communion), offered to all, regardless of current church membership or particular creeds or beliefs. The worship service is geared for thinking adults who are seeking to grow their faith, so most parents take advantage of the nursery or children's activities provided by experienced staff for their children in other parts of the building at that time. The children's activities are age-appropriate sessions that are much more than just baby sitting. Beginnings (educational and play activities for preschool children), Children Worship and Wonder, and a children's choir are offered so that children can learn and grow at their level, rather than having to sit without squirming during the service for adults. Will you be welcome and find the experience at South Street meaningful? I think so, but there's one way to find out for yourself --give it a try!
