I saw this Shoppers Drug Mart (SDM). It was perfect to get some. This SDM used to be Friar's Tavern. I grew up knowing that it was the Hard Rock Cafe. It shut down a few years ago. It is now a drug store. It's also a heritage Toronto site. Its location is decent. It's across from both CF Eaton Centre and Yonge-Dundas Square. There is a Green P parking lot under the latter, so you could technically park and casually shop here. This SDM has two floors. It does have an elevator to get you between the floors. Sadly, it was out of commission when I dropped by. If you require an elevator to get you between floors, you are out of luck here, unless it's now fixed. I walked up the stairs. I liked that it had a mini grocery store. I saw fresh produce, salads, and more. I found my mints. I got some peppermint Excel mints. Yay! There was a single human at the cashout area. I ended up using a self-checkout. I only had mints, so the transaction was simple. I paid with a debit card. I had my PC Optimum barcode scanned from my SDM app. Done! I'm glad that I got mints. They came in handy while watching the concert. I didn't really need a drink, so I saved a bit not getting one at Massey Hall and having minty-fresh breath. This SDM is cool. I like the location. The only downside is that the store closes at 9 pm. As a result, you can't get groceries or snacks after a show. (483)

The store  is quite large in a square shape with an extremely high ceiling. There is no Tim Hortons so they sell their own hot drinks and pastries. We got some pizza slices (2 for $4). There are 4 types of pizza: cheese, pepperoni, pepperoni & meatballs, and one other. Service was courteous. Currently there is a promo Jun 13 to Jul 10. But back to the building its self, the beer store renovated the facade, replacing what was once two doors, one entrance one exit with a gigantic sliding door, which does alleviate the congestion at the entrance when pensioners form a line to return bottles to pay bills. But the store it's self can still be a bit congested, add on top of this that the parking lot serves the bakery, a pharmacy and the beer store it's self which can make for a tight squeeze when people are parked on both sides of the driving area( however if you enter from symington there is an alley that is directly behind the stores, Thur will take you to a much larger parking area beside the Portuguese bakery that has ample parking.

The old space may look familiar since the space used to be where Beatrice Society was. Consisting of 2 floors, Sobr Market has a wide variety of non-alcoholic options (including de-alcoholized wines, flavoured sodas, etc.) that recently opened in late April. I stopped by Sobr Market the day they opened to the public and was amazed at the great selection they have. The only thing is that...who would have thought...that non-alcoholic options can get quite pricey. I did see some brands I am familiar with but there were many other brands to try as well. Staff were attentive and friendly during my visit, asking if I needed any assistance or help. I did purchase a few cans of de-alcoholized wine and some sparkling water as well. Good option for those who are trying to cut down alcohol or don't try at all!

Just the fact that this place exists is amazing to me. I love that people are willing to drop 4…read morebucks a can on an alcohol free beverage that tastes like alcohol. Because that means when I want to try one or two things, there are stores like this that I can walk through. I'm not sure how big the market is, and if retail space can sustain places like this, but I'm glad that they are currently being sustained. It's worth checking out, for sure.
