we were visiting town and someone suggested that we visit the store for a good selection of Funko pops. Not only did they have a good selection, not only did they have an excellent selection. They had the largest collection of Funko pops. I've ever seen under one roof. They had a lot of other really neat products too, including Asian food snacks. We made numerous purchases. The staff was super helpful super chill and the music was really good in the store. I saw them interact very gingerly with a young lady. Who had some slight social developmental issues. Class act Store all the way around. I only wish I lived closer... Will definitely have to come back. Plus they had video games for every platform and actual arcade games. Video Game World has taken the crown as my favorite Retro Video Game shop in the Charlotte area. They have a little bit of everything, and I do mean everything. Also the staff is friendly and super knowledgeable even about obscure and foreign gaming products. I'm mostly a portable gamer, Vita, PSP, 3DS, Lynx and was happy to see they still had some Vita support here, unfortunately nothing that I didn't already have. However I did find a semi rare copy of Ultima Exodus for the NES. Ultima 3: Exodus for us C=64, Apple II and early MSDOS gamers. I also picked up a couple of Fallout Funko POP figures for the desk. I think the highlight of my visit here was seeing a working Vectrex. I wish I could have picked that beauty up, but alas I had to settle for a picture. One day I'll add one to the collection. There was a decent collection of N64 titles along one shelf with some Atari 2600 carts on the bottom row. Also in the case they they had an even better collection of N64 boxed games along with some of the more expensive Zelda's and Pokemon cartridges. Below that on the lower case shelf were some big ticket Sega Genesis titles as well. Their was also a case full of portable systems. Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, PSP and PSP GO, GameBoy SE, DS, etc... All competitively priced and cleaned up and looking great. So again, great place... I didn't even mention the modern stuff. Next time I'm in the Charlotte area this will be the first store that I visit. read more

Not the most extensive collection of similar shops but largely because they are relatively new, Good place to start and come back to over time. Today is my birthday and I went in ready to spend money. I said "first of all, today is my birthday" and the guy behind the register just stares at me. awkward, but I recover and try to offer my Xbox one for trade, but it was swiftly rejected. I asked how much they would give me for Pokémon yellow and they said $25 which feels a lot lower than what I've seen online so I pivot and say I want to buy a gameboy advance SP, and dude turns me down there too! said they didn't have any, and I was like, is that one I saw in the case just for display??? I would've probably bought more games but it kinda felt like they didn't want to sell me anything. i came to this location because i saw a review saying they had a good selection, my feedback on that is maybe but I wouldn't know cause they didn't want to tell me about games or sell me games, even on my birthday! so don't come here on your birthday because they definitely won't tell you happy birthday and might not even tell you about video games. read more

So the inventory here is very different than your local game stop. The games are hands down much cheaper than the used games at Game Stop. The selection of the old school games for PS2, NES and so much more are crazy big! I was amazed at the selection they had for the older units. I had driven past a few times but it was highly recommended from someone at my dentist office and I must say it did not disappoint. My dad and I were driving around Charlotte to visit Abari, but I wanted to check out a video game store in the area that had a specific game I was looking for, on top of trading some old games from my collection I don't play anymore - low and behold, I found Video Game World! This store has the largest retro video game selection I've ever seen in North Carolina. Even more so than Save Point in Charlotte, which IMO has gone downhill with inflated prices and weak selection lately. I even saw obscure game accessories like the Arcade Racer steering wheel for Sega Saturn! Their prices are quite fair; it's not like you'll be paying $20 for a Crash Bandicoot game on the PS1. What I also dig is that the staff can hold the game you want within 24 hours if you plan to pick it up, which they did for me with Snowboard Kids 2 on the N64, as I had been on the lookout for that game. The only thing I wasn't so fond of is their trade-in credit value. The staff didn't want to buy every game from me or give me store credit because the discs had minor scratches. That's actually what Save Point is better with, and I still like going to that store whenever I hit Charlotte. But if you're in the Charlotte area, this is a game store worth checking out for the massive selection and variety of games to choose from, at prices that look even better. read more

I loved this place, do not get me wrong. Mainly due to the nostalgia and older customer service. But with the change of staff, customer service went down with it. Sorry for anyone who enjoyed being greeted and people who knew your face/name. Or even cared to help. I approach the young man who doesn't make eye contact as he watches boxing on the computer. Tried to get a trade in or replacement ps4 controller due to the one I bought there was messing up (the second one I have had from there - first one replaced easily) First, it was you don't have a receipt? No. then it was you don't remember the date you bought it? No. Then I find a receipt from my email. He's like never mind that's two old. This is the short story and tired of typing as I have to drive 35 minutes back home. Yes, I drive this far just to shop at this store. This is the last time though and that's sad. read more

Cheap games from every console right next to an arcade and ice cream store. What more could you ask for.

I went to vacation in Concord Mills and my experience was awful. I purchased a figure for my 12-year-old son and upon opening the box the stand would not fit in the figure as well as the arm was broken. When I went to exchange it the next day and they gave me a very hard time. They agreed to switch out the products but they did not allow me to open the box to make sure that the product wasn't effective again. He said if I open the box that I wouldn't be able to exchange it again which makes no sense because you can literally cut tape off and then retape the box. He also said that I was only allowed to make one exchange I would never purchase from the store again. They were so rude that they even suggested I go to pop cult. When I visited popcault they were so polite and helpful. Nothing like Gameworld. read more

They are rude and don't care about their customers. I have made multiple purchases from the 2 Concord locations. Of all the purchases there has been 4 times of coming home to have NO disc or the WRONG disc in the case. I have always been polite to the employees, even when frustrated with the ordeal. I made a request to have the missing disc mailed to me and was told they couldn't do that so I requested to be reimbursed for my gas (the store is almost 24 miles from me) and again told no. I get a message telling me to not shop at any of their stores because I'm upset about not getting my disc. I was polite in my conversation but they are rude and uncaring. I was told to complain and report my complaints to the BBB.....they Don't care. Obviously they dont care about the customer so don't expect them to be in business long. They don't want to treat me with respect then they don't want my money read more

A large portion of floor space is dedicated to the systems and games you just cant find at GameStop or big box stores anymore. I loved this place the first couple of years they were around. I found some great deals, the guys working here were cool, and their selection is usually pretty good. But as they got bigger and expanded, they went the way of the eBay pricing guide, and often above eBay averages on a lot of desirable items. I only go on a rare occasion now. The store is good sized and layed out well and neat. The guys working there are still pretty nice. One thing to note: there was a fire in the adjacent building a couple of years ago, and though their store didn't get burned, there is a smoky smell that that is still pretty strong. It actually made me sick. It's subsided some, but still noticeable. read more

Prices are the same with Amazon and you can get better deals on eBay or CL. I went this past Sunday and bought a game so I didn't have to wait for shipping and asked about trading my PS3 system in and said I needed the power cable and 1 controller. I came in the next day and the guy from Sunday was there along with a guy named Dan. Both treated me bad because it's my fault for not bringing a video cable when I asked what I needed the day before. I will not be returning to either location, and would avoid them. read more

I'm gonnna make this a simple three point review. 1. The games here are cheaper than Gamestop and occasionally Amazon 2. They've done retro better than Gamestop for years and have an ever increasing selection of new games/consoles (which I should mention that they open up and inspect their refurbished devices). 3. The staff are really friendly and know what they're doing. They're upfront about all cost as a business should be and will often buy certain games for twice as much as Gamestop if they know it'll sell. Bonus: Fuck Gamestop. Sometimes local is not better....I am all for supporting small and local businesses, but sometimes its better to stay with so called corporate stores. Let me explain a few key points: 1) The customer service is bad to non existent-this is consistent between both locations in Huntersville and Mooresville. Having one person do a random 30 second sweep in a store that is crowded on Black Friday-Not a good idea. Leaving it so customers are helping and advising other customers-just bad practice. 2) No receipts. Well, you do have the option of a text or email receipt if you use a credit card (they appear to be using Apple Pay as a processor) but if you have store credit or pay with cash you don't get a receipt-which leads to the next issue: 3) No guarantees. At least with 'corporate stores' there is at least a 7 day window on used/refurbished product; with, you guessed it, A RECEIPT. Here, its your word and you are at their mercy whether they want to even acknowledge that the product came from them/making it right. Which leads to #4: 4) Its never a really good idea to argue with customers. I know customers can be wrong; however arguing with a customer about an item that has KNOWN COMPATIBILITY ISSUES that won't work because of those issues;Bad form. Arguing with a customer and acting like they are stupid because they cannot find your trade in credit-because they won't listen to how your name is spelled; then finding it and letting it be known that they kept trying to 'correct' your names spelling-bad idea. 5) There is no way, other than their word, to check or verify store credit. No ID is necessary to access store credit either. They can erase/use it at their will; or god forbid you trade in stuff and have a large amount of store credit because literally anyone can overhear, use your name and use/take your store credit. 6) Prices are HIGH on what they have. While its great to see retro games in person, honestly the selection is not great-you can find most at yard sales, thrift stores and flea markets-FOR A LOT LESS. Conditions range from almost new looking, to really crappy beat up cases, sun fading, possible corrosion on older cartridge based items, and rarely any booklets. Rare games can easily be had for cheaper on eBay (even with shipping) 7) If you want to ask a question as to whether they have a game in stock/price they will answer through Facebook very promptly. HOWEVER, if you message them about an issue, or to find out info on trade ins, prepare to be ignored All in all it is very much a buyer be-VERY-ware situation with this place.
