We ate here after seeing a show at QPAC with four adults and two children. The service was not overly attentive but sufficient, and they got all our meal orders correct. The atmosphere is social and loud when full, but this is as per most of the restaurants in the Little Stanley St strip. My meal was excellent but a fairly standard beef and basil stir fry. Everyone at our table enjoyed theirs too. Next time I would like to try something new, perhaps the duck or some seafood. read more

I can't believe how popular this place has gotten. I remember coming here years ago and finding it quite empty, even though all their food was great and it's a well presented place. But when looking for a place to eat on a busy Saturday night a couple of weeks ago, the tables and chairs were barely recognisable, due to the fact that they were now inhabited by bodies. My friends and I decided we had to give it a go. I can't remember exactly what my meal was called, but it was some sort of cold noodle salad dish, with chicken (which was hot), carrot, lettuce and mint and a sort of sweet chilli dressing, among other things. It might sound a bit strange but it was tasty and the portions were perfect; when I finished I was wonderfully satisfied but didn't feel as though I might be impersonating the blueberry shaped girl from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory any time soon. After reading the other reviews I have to say that I don't entirely agree, I've always had good food here, but I must confess that I'm not particularly experienced with Vietnamese cuisine. Often good, sometimes very good. Vietnamese cuisine in the South Bank section of Brisbane, a change of pace on a pizza and burger heavy restaurant row. I bet it would be hard to find a good reviewer to sum up the Pho -- it's too damn humid much of the year to drink hot soup. But we enjoyed the vermicelli and the shrimp & chicken fried rice which is nicely stir-fried and decorative in presentation. I only wish there were fuller shrimp on the plate. Along Stanley St there is a variety of places to choose from. For whatever reason, I wanted pho, so I went here. It was just alright. The noodles were a bit thick for my taste. Consistency. I have dined here 3 times and I keep coming back. Maybe because I have a soft spot for Pho and rice paper rolls (probably)... They have a pretty solid wine list with a few of my favs and the location on the parklands always makes for a pleasant lunch or dinner atmosphere. The waiters could be a bit more attentive. As the timing was a bit off- mains should be brought to the table at the same time- common sense. I also have to say something about the Pho... As a frequent visitor of Southbank, I love the idea of having delicious and reasonably priced Vietnamese cuisine at my fingertips. I associate Vietnamese food with fresh ingredients, fast turn around and affordable prices. Unfortunately, my Viet De Lites experience was not as delightful as I'd hoped. My friend and I were both shocked at the prices. Most mains were around $20 with the exception of the beef noodle soup and a couple of salads. I suppose this is to be expected as Southbank is such a central location. However, as Sunnybank and Darra have set such a high standard for excellent Vietnamese food at cheap prices, I had expectations that a Vietnamese restaurant with $20 mains, would be doing something original and challenging on their menu. I didn't expect to pay $20 for generic chicken lemongrass chilli stir fry and grilled pork rice vermicelli. Overall, Viet De Lites is an average Vietnamese restaurant. The service was fine and the location convenient but unless I'm starving, I probably wouldn't be back there anytime soon. read more

I have been to Viet de Lites a couple of times and have found it to be a nice place. I will agree with the other reviewers that it is not the cheapest Vietnamese or the best tasting one, but it is beautifully decorated and in a superb location. I have tried a coupe of dishes here- the pho soup and the salads. I have never been to the el-cheapo Vietnamese restaurants located in the suburbs but what I can say is the flavours seemed pretty good and all the minty zesty flavours were there. This place can get away with charging so much for their mains as most of the restaurants in the area will charge the same and I am assuming the renting space in South Bank would be very expensive. I am a fan of the decor of this place and it is what drew me in in the first place. It is very "fresh" looking with lots of green bamboo looking displays and white tables. This makes it a lot more welcoming than those el-cheapo Vietnamese restaurants. All in all, Viet de Lites is an alright place, you can't beat the location and the decor of this restaurant. So, if you want to eat Vietnamese in South Bank, Go to Viet de Lites but if going to South Bank is not that important to you; there are plenty of other options. read more

Good food. My taste buds are appropriately tingling. Not the best Vietnamese I've had. But it's good. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the sidewalk seating. Location is awesome. The staff were great, some may need a little more experience not scaring the sh** out of me by appearing out of nowhere and standing behind me... Hahaha. All in all a very enjoyable experience and good value for money, which can be hard to find in Southbank. read more

I visited this place again as a newly crowned vegetarian and while they have less veggie options than most Asian restaurants, I was impressed with the four dishes I tried. The pumpkin with coconut is fantastic - pumpkin with a thick coconut curry topped with lots of thinly sliced, crispy pumpkin chips. The tofu and cashew stir-fry was also very tasty with yummy bok choy and a gelatinous sauce which was a nice mix of sweet and savory. The tofu vermicelli salad was a tad too sweet,about average compared to how tasty that dish is pretty much everywhere you order it. Vietnamese food tends to be on the cheaper side, but being right near QPAC, the cinema and the river, means you are paying a premium for location [something I don't mind, I imagine the rent is very expensive]. read more

I ordered the chicken satay skewers and when I went to eat them the chicken had wood splinters from the skewers in them. At every Resturant I have gone to dishes like stir fry come with complementary rice. My farther ordered the beef and basil stir fry but also had to order a side of rice. Over all the food tasted great and I would recommend this restaurant. Just be aware that rice doesn't come with any of the dishes and if you order a skewer of some sort check the meat of splinters. read more

I am a big fan of vietnamese cuisine. Mainly the noodle soups, salads and deep fried spring rolls. So naturally I stopped by Viet De Lites when it opened up in South Bank because A - it was vietnamese, B - it looked clean and C - there were people there looking like they enjoy'd their food, always a good thing right? Not so many people I had to wait as long as I did for the food I ordered to come out. Just little old me sitting there anyway. I ordered the deep fried spring rolls for the entree, and as always, the pho tai beef noodle soup. I've had a fair few in my time and I've even watched Luke Nguyen make it on television so I would have to say I am fairly knowledgeable about what goes in and how good ones taste. My spring rolls took 30 minutes to come out, no kidding. I thought they were kidding, I asked them if they were kidding, no kidding. After I demolished them because I was suitably starving, my noodle soup made it's entrance. It was very fancy with a fancy cut garnish, the beef was still a little rare, thinly sliced... I was excited to dig in. It was okay. But for $12.90 I wanted it to be yummy. So I was a little disappointed. I was also shocked at the prices on the menu for the rest of the mains, mainly in the $20-$24 mark with the vietnamese fish tamarind and vietnamese prawn tamarind soup coming in at $24.90. Let me remind you, regardless of the fancy name, it is just soup. I don't think i've ever paid that much for the soup. Who knows though, it could have been filled with expensive prawns, but I wasn't going to order it. So try it out if you're desperate for vietnamese cuisine and in South Bank, I don't know if i'll be back soon. read more

I came here for the first time and quite liked the place. The decor was decent and modern. The waiter service was of standard. The food I ordered was pretty good too. I quite enjoyed the Crispy Spring Rolls, though they were a bit stingy with the filling of the meat. The Kings Prawn Coconut Curry was a hit with my tastebuds, leaving them jumping with joy. The Chicken Chilli Lemongrass dish my partner ordered was a bit of a sad disappointment, it was warned "three chilli hot" however a small child could eat it comfortably. Neither my partner or I ordered dessert because the main dish we had was very fulfilling. Would go back again for another dinner! read more
