A small ma and pa shop! The food was absolutely delicious and authentic! Every time I'm getting over a sickness I crave chicken pho and it brings me back to life! My husband got a mixed bowl with a special sauce and he absolutely enjoyed it! I got the Jasmine tea and it's refreshing that there was actually tea leaves and not just tea bags! This place is quite good for the price it may seem a little pricier than some but it has a big portion size. In-fact their large size you can split among 2-4 people. There was a roach in my pho. This roach appeared to have been simmering all day from its condition. I was so disappointed and disgusted, knowing broth is usually simmered in a large pot. I'm not a fan of poor reviews, but I write them when necessary. After spotting the roach, I called the restaurant but didn't get an answer. Bugs and rats can quickly become problems in restaurants. It happens; that's why most restaurants keep an exterminator's number on speed dial. Roaches come in numbers, so I hope they address the problem in the kitchen. My mom decided to order takeout for dinner tonight, so we got the bo tai chanh, bo luc lac, and banh cot. The bo luc lac was dry unlike your traditional dish, where there was basically no marinade cooked with the beef. The banh cot was decent. The worst thing was probably the bo tai chanh because it was 75-80% ONIONS, with barely any meat at all. This was super annoying especially because it was $15. The flavor was great, but I would never pay $15 for a box of onions. The bo luc lac and banh cot both came with veggies and all dishes came with nuoc mam (fish sauce). I've definitely had better Vietnamese food elsewhere, so I wouldn't order food from here again if I had a choice. read more

The place looked promising with large dining area and relatively clean decor. This place also had wide range of menu items like I was used to. We ordered our standard, egg rolls and pho tai nam, but today I felt like pho tai nam gan, so I ordered it. 3 rolls came out relatively hot and it was good with vegetables and clear noodles inside. All was good at this point even with somewhat dried out pho vegetables and such. What got me the most about Viet Garden is that ratio of noodles to soup and meat were all off. The pho came with some meat on top, but the amount of noodles just took over the soup and everything else. I almost never leave pho unfinished, but this time is an exception. The soup base was good but seemed to have balanced taste of seasoning and broth. Not the richest soup base but didn't taste like all fish sauce either. Overall, the food was okay but the service wasn't the fastest and the server also had long finger nails that didn't seem clean. The pictures of the take out doesn't do justice for the taste of the food! The spring rolls were very good-very large and tasted fresh! The Bun was very yummy and very filling! The spicy Pho with beef tendon was spicy good and lots of additives that were fresh and very filling! The crispy chicken wings were good but it would've been better id I ate it fresh and hot. I love the portion size here for noodle soups, they have xlarge for the biggest bowl and when I'm really craving noodles I will get that. The menu variety is quite big and the services is always good here. Their food is always good I never had anything I don't like here before. Sometimes I like to get fried tofu that is not in the menu; they have written menu on the board sometimes and unless you ask for it you cannot find it. My husband and I always visit a Vietnamese restaurant everywhere we go... what can I say... either we just love Pho or we drink a lot.. probably both! Anyway... this restaurant was so good! They were open on New Years Day which was amazing cause NYE.. and the soup was flavorful, the both strong and rich. If you want a nice big portion for the price you pay, this place is the place to go for pho. I always get the PHO TAI BO VIEN (Noodle soup with eye round rare steak and meatballs). When I want more noodles (since my daughter eats most of my noddles) I just order extra noodles on the side which they give you a lot of noodles. I love how the bowl of pho comes out nice and hot. I ordered the chicken wing appetizer, a gui cuon appetizer, and a #34 (egg noodle, pork chicharonne, shrimp, squid, quail eggs, etc). The chicken wings were AMAZING! They are fried, but unbreaded and come with this delicious sweet fish sauce. They came out piping hot and when you put the fish sauce on it, they just go up another notch! The gui cuon was nice, nothing special, but just as tasty as I've had at any other place. But the star of this show was the #34 bowl o' noodles! It had everything in it that you could imagine and something I wasn't expecting...the chicharonne! The taste of the chicharonne in the broth was the perfect pairing! This might be the best Vietnamese place in Baton Rouge but in comparison to Vietnamese restaurants in other settings, I am not sure if they are top notch. This visit was only soup based orders---we ordered pho and we ordered the clear /egg noodle soup. Both were tasty albeit to me the pho was not as tasty as I have had. On the other hand, both were promptly served and we're ready to eat---as opposed to being steamy hot and having to wait for it to cool. I've been frequenting Viet Garden for years now, and their pho is consistently excellent. When I get the hankering for pho, it's the place I hit. However, don't make the mistake that pho is all they do--they have a variety of Vietnamese cuisine to try--from the simple pork chops to more ambitious dishes (unfortunately, I can't read Vietnamese to remember the names of all the dishes but there was a memorable seasoned duck dish that would be worth trying). My wife's favorite however, are the Vietnamese cupcakes--and you'd be wrong if you're thinking this is dessert. No, this appetizer consists of cups of delicious fried batter (I think it's fried at least) are garnished with shrimp and pickled veggies and are served with fish sauce. My favorite thing though, is the soda chanh, a fizzy limeade freshly made. I've been coming here for years, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. There is plenty to try here. I was told it would be a cost of $1 per shrimp to add to my pho... that's insane I passed. The for a bath was good and they packed everything really nicely as far as taking it to go. My husband was not a fan of the brisket it did not have much flavor. For me Pho is more about the broth however so I was OK with it. Although I phoned in my order ahead of time everyone seem confused when I got there to pick it up. They were very kind about getting it done quickly though and actually brought it to my car so I did appreciate that! I also had the Vietnamese eggrolls which I thought were really good! This place is clueless. I asked the waitress if they have Thai ice tea and she said yes and gave us 2 ice green tea. We asked her why is the drink so different? She pointed on the menu and she said that's Thai Tea. I know my tea and that's not Thai tea. She used green tea to pass off as "Thai tea". We were expecting the reddish sweet Thai ice tea with condensed milk. So disappointing because if they can't get our drink order right, I'm thinking she can't get take our orders either. I had called beforehand to ask if they have vegetarian options and someone told me yes. When I got there, I told the waitress I wanted a vegetarian dish and she ran to the back to get someone. The "cook" told me she can do something for me. She just gave me the vegetable ingredients for pho (minus the meat and broth). it was blend and raw. Never again. I left starving. A very sad day for Viet garden. They have lost a loyal customer of over 16 years. I will never go back to them nor will I recommended anyone to them anymore. You do not charge customers for condiments! When did that change? You have already increased your food prices to what many would consider expensive.... When you charge for condiments, you cross the line. If you are going to charge customers, you need to tell them there is a charge before you charge them and not just add it to the bill after the fact. read more

Great food! We started our order with some spring rolls, I wasn't very impressed by them, but they were ok. We ordered Noodle soup with eye round steak & well done flank (21), and Pho with rare steak and well done flank & stripe (23), -I'm still remember the numbers in the menu- both were very tasty, the noodles well cooked and the mix of flavours were really enjoyable, the meat was soft and rich in taste. Personally, I liked more the noodle soup (21), but my companion preferred number 23, we both were happy with our meals, they were very good!! the size of the portions are fine. I also had thai tea, and it was delicious!!! I can say, it's been the best I've had out of Thailand! and a dessert, (that I don't recall the name right now) but it was made of coconut milk, creamed corn and sweet beans and green jelly.
