This is the place where you'll find some used treasures, but also new books and and some rare and collectible books. Whenever I visit a new bookstore, I gravitate to the children's section. This bookstore has lots of children's books, from picture books to graphic novels. I saw some ancient Nancy Drew novels, with original covers. I'm not a Nancy Drew head, but I can appreciate a vintage mystery collection when I see one. One of the best things about Fallen Leaf Books is that they leave (leaf?) you the eff alone. I don't remember if anyone greeted me or talked to me, and frankly, I don't care. All I need in a bookstore is books and cozy nooks and quietude, and that's what you'll find here.

Located in a strip mall along Central, I noticed this shop with a sign that says "Bookstore" over…read morethe entrance. As you enter, you notice long rows of paperback books, sorted by genre, that run the entire length of the main room. Towards the back, there is a room on the left that has some $2 hardbacks. On the right, is another small room that has some True Crime and Sci-Fi novels. Occasionally, you will find free standing racks where collections of a specific author have been gathered. The checkout counter is to your right of where you enter. There, you pay 1/2 price of the suggested price printed by the publishers. You can also bring in books you wish to part with for in-store credits. (I didn't ask about how much they give, but I assume it's less than half price.) Basically, just take your time browsing the racks. The place has a lot of books, most were in good condition, but definitely read before. I was able to find a lot of authors I that I follow, but the collections were incomplete. For some reason, instead of fiction having nice wide open spaces where you can peruse books and find something new, it's now mostly in an aisle just wide enough for 2 people to stand in. Imagine standing in front of a bookshelf that goes from the floor to 6-7 feet in the air. Imagine not being able to back up more than a step or two and trying to see what's on the shelf. It's not an easy feat. Meanwhile, there is a great open sea in the middle of the store that's wide open. Clearance, you'll be happy to know, now takes up the former fiction spot. So the books that are easiest to see are the ones nobody really wants. Makes perfect sense. In other ideas that clearly make perfect sense, with fewer DVDs on the shelves these days, an upper shelf that is very convenient to browse has a few titles with the cover side out. The bottom shelf, where almost no one wants to go, is still full of product. Changing something and improving it is welcome. Changing it and actively making it worse sucks. I used to spend a fair amount of time browsing. Now I hit a couple of areas and I'm done. Oh - whoever decided putting a dvd rack by the exit should not be making important decisions. Ever. The Whispering Shelf features a fabulous assortment of stationery/ cards, gifts, books with handwritten recommendations (always a sucker for these little personal touches from a bookstore) and an expensive children's section. I was especially enamored by the children's section and display. There were several interactive elements to keep kids busy while you peruse the shelves (smart!). They offer a variety of events throughout the month for book clubs, storytime and more. Can't wait for more future visits and to do our Christmas shopping here!

The baristas and bookstore staff were all welcoming, and the vibe is very inclusive. I've come in and looked around the store a few times, and the staff seems approachable if you need anything but will leave you alone if you're just browsing.

I politely asked her if she can help me locate where that Spanish books where and first of all she just points to where I should go check. Second i asked her a question about if she knew what kind of Spanish books they had and she looked at me like I was stupid and said "I don't even know what you're trying to tell me or ask me" I just apologized and walked away and tried my best too look for the books I was looking for. She was extremely rude! I don't know how Barnes and Noble hires people with this attitude! It was truly a disgusting experience!
