He was recommended to buy a certain soil which looked like bark mulch and not soil at all. We used it, and I planted flowers seed June 6, 2025 and although they sprouted, they did not grow at all. Three weeks later I planted leftovers of the same seeds in a galvanized wash tub using bagged organic potting soil I purchased at Cascade in Coos Bay. They are growing fast and surpassed the bad soil plantings from 3 weeks earlier. My husband went back and complained, and the owner, Rex, "apologized" and said that he would bring out a load of the correct soil and that he would personally dig out the bad soil and dispose of it for us as my husband has an injured arm and cannot do it. When he arrived, my husband asked him to wait before dumping the soil as he wanted to put down a tarp first for easier clean up but while he was getting the tarp the owner dumped the soil right on our driveway in front of the planters. Rex did NOT remove the bad soil like he promised. He said he was too busy and just drove away leaving us to hire someone to finish the job he promised. So, we did not get a refund, and our $30 worth of soil ended up costing us over $100 to pay a young man to dig the old soil out and refill with new soil for us and also counting the $30 in wasted flower seeds that are now thrown out because they are ruined. I read the good reviews and wonder what has happened to Rex. If he is such a "good Christian" then why did he treat us so badly and leave us in such a difficult position? He treated us like our situation didn't matter to him at all even though he had told my husband that he would take care of all of this for us today and knowing that my husband could not do it with an injured arm. BTW, we are in our 70's. Bad business. We will never do business with Rex again.

This year my renters wanted to know where he was and when I contacted him, he said I "hadn't set up work with him this year and his season was already full" - but that was dishonest because I never "set it up with him" yearly anyway. The agreement was for him to just to start work by May of each year - which he did every year. I don't live in the area and it's sometimes difficult to find service people. He left me stranded right when all the other lawn care people were busy - and it was especially galling because I had made contact with him about something else several weeks before and he acted like everything was fine. He never said a word about not doing our yards anymore! Other issues included billing me for at least one lawn visit that didn't happen as well as erratic billing in general. The other thing was his moods: he could be moody bordering on petulant - like he wanted to argue with you. I always wondered if he had issues with working for a woman. In conclusion, I suggest you avoid Rex Hand if you want a reliable lawn care professional you can count on.

After some very workable negotiation with the owner, and hearing from acquaintances who had done business with him on larger home projects, I hired Clean Rivers. My experience with every single employee was positive. Questions were always answered and changes made throughout the job were handled to my satisfaction. As often happens the job grew in scope and size as we moved through the process. I changed the design pavers before we got that far, and I increased the total area to be paved. I changed from a veg garden to raised beds, and I had them install a new beautiful fence. Two small decks were added. I now have a lovely private clean space that I use all the time now. The photos that I submitted were taken last spring. I now have a lovely raised veg garden and even a couple of potted trees. I love it. I recommend Nate and his crew. I would hire Clean Rivers again.
