Following his recommendation, we ordered two "Schrøder panne" dishes and two additional main courses. When the bill arrived, we were shocked to discover that we had been charged for 4 full "Schrøder panne" dishes plus the two additional main courses. In total, we ended up paying more than €350 for 4 adults and 2 children. Absolutely unacceptable and extremely disappointing treatment of guests. When we questioned the bill, we were only told in English that four adults had eaten from the platters. That may technically have been their interpretation, but it was completely different from the recommendation we had originally received. We honestly felt trapped into paying far more than expected. Menu is like an American coffee shop, but with more upscale items. Plus they have a full bar and an excellent selections of wines and beer. Servers, like all over Norway, are multi-lingual and their English is quite good, so no problems getting answers to your questions. Wife liked her pasta and goulash soup, while I had an excellent burger. Tram line runs right in front of it, so wherever you are in Oslo you can get there easily.

The building alone dates back to the 1700s n the restaurant was established in the 1800s. You can see and feel the history the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is special warm n uniquely Norwegian. I had the organic salmon from Aukra, cooked with panfried gnocchi, snow peas for a fresh crunch with a creamy sauce and it comes with muscles!!. We also tried the reindeer tartare so good and shared the whale steak. Glad I tried it not really for me, but not bad. Service was great, and they told us it gets busy during the day with jazz playing. If you want a place in Oslo that feels authentic and rich with history, this is it.

Our last night in Oslo and this was the perfect way to end the trip. Entering the restaurant, to a bright and open floor plan. There are 2 levels of dining and an outdoor patio open when the weather is nice. I loved our table location by a corner with light coming in all around us. Service was some of the best we've had anywhere in the world. Not only was our server working hard our entire dining experience (about 2 1/2 hours), but he checked on us frequently and made sure all dishes were served in a timely, yet spaced out fashion. Coming to a restaurant like this, we had to go with the 8 course meal to try everything. This is what they are most known for. It was exceptional. Every dish seems to get better and better. Each course was brought out by either our server or a food runner, explained in detail what was in it, where each ingredient was from (local farms, etc), and if applicable, how long the process to marinate or prepare it was. Instead of wine paring, we choose the elderberry beverage which is popular in this part of the world and actually paired fantastic with each an every dish. Some plates were served warm which was a nice touch. Something I wasn't expecting, but was perfect in keeping hot/warm foods at the right temperature. This was hands down one of the most memorable dining experience for overall quality, flavor variety, service and ambiance. Also, for an 8-course meal, this was affordable and most importantly satisfying! With a rotational, seasonal menu, this is a place to return to. A 5+ star experience which I highly recommend.

We order the delightful feta burek, which is almost like a British style flaky pastry pie, the Cevapi, which are like mini beef sausage kebabs inside a fresh, hot pide style flat bread, chicken kebab and a shopska salad. When the food arrived we were instantly taken aback by the size of the portions and the quality of the food. Everything was so delicious and fresh and to make matters even better, it was the cheapest place by far that we had found in Oslo. I also discovered a new food in the form of Kajmak which was an accompaniment to the Cevapi. Its kind of like a soft, Philadelphia type cheese, but lighter and much more flavoursome. Anyway, it complemented the meat wonderfully and I just couldn't get enough of it. This restaurant is a perfect spot for a nice lunch or cheap dinner. Where to start!?! The friendliest waitress that we were served by across our whole trip. Keen to help, chatty, efficient and explained the menu to us. Decor of the place was nice, open and bright. It is selling Balkan dishes and goes for a costal type feel with wooden ornaments dotted about the place. Now the two most important bits. The food is really really cheap for Norway and would even be considered good value on the UK. If your in Oslo and your sick of the high prices, get yourself along here and treat yourself at bargain pricing. The food itself was really really tasty. Great kebabs in lovely flat bread, amazing cheese & tomato salad and beautiful local pie style dishes. (All the actual dish names we had are on Rocco G's review if you want to check them out) I love this place and would go regularly if it was in Glasgow. If your a Oslo local you need to start giving it some love. If your a tourist you should check it out for lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed.
