Salsa evening means another food search before the dancing! After lucking out with El Rincon last…read moreweek, my salsa friend Hilary and I came back to Tattenham Crescent, just a few doors down to Chillis Just recently, we've found quite a few independent Indian restaurants in the are serving some good original dishes - we've enjoyed good meals at Cinnamon Spice in Epsom and Dhansiri in Ewell., for example. So it was nice to see some unique dishes on the specialities section of the menu. We chose the chicken dhakeshwari, which was a mild dish garnished with mango and almond. It was like a pasanda but the mango added a nice fruity note to the sauce. Our other main dish was the chicken chettinad, which included roasted coconut and mixed Indian seeds in a hot sauce. The coconut added a nutty flavour and the heat of the chettinad made a nice contrast to the dhakeshwari I enjoyed the distinctive flavours in the main dishes and the accompaniments - papadums, mango lassi, naan and pilau rice - were all delicious Service was friendly and efficient. We will be back to try more dishes on the specialities list

Chillis is not one of them........ The food is excellent quality, well presented and reasonably priced. In particular they offer a fantastic banquet evening on Tuesday's although as a result the restaurant is often very busy on that night. My own personal favourite on the menu is balti lamb jalfrezi.

Visiting London from Chicago and of COURSE we had to try some of the town's famous East…read moreIndian-Pakistani cuisine, but friends' recommendations were all for high-end and/or chain places. So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.

Went here tonight for dinner and it was all very good! Got the mix platter for the appetizer, all…read morewas good but the chicken tikka was the favorite. Also ordered chicken curry, chicken korma, lamb tikka biryani, garlic naan...all very tasty. Mango lassi was great too, one of the best I've had. My husband, I and our two sons thought it was very good. Our 11 year old is pretty picky and gave it a 10/10. The service was great too! Highly recommend.

Balaka is an excellent Bangladeshi and Indian retaurant and take away situated in Horsell. Due to…read moretheir success they have recently taken over larger premises in the village. We tend to get a take away and this is either delivered free (orders over £10) or collected (with 10% off if the order is over £15). The food is always freshly cooked and portions are generous. You'll find all the curry house favourites on the menu together with some more unusual dishes. As a starter the prawn puree comes highly recommended. A flat, light bread, stuffed with lightly spiced prawns and garnished with salad and lemon. The flavour is superb and, if it were available as a main course I'd order it every time! The Biriani dishes are very good and, in particular the vegetable curry that accompanies is rich and flavoursome, unlike many curry houses. Several of the special dishes are not available for takeaway meaning that when you're hooked on this place, and you surely will be, you will just have to visit the restaurant. The monkfish mazza, in particular, is to die for! The restaurant also caters for functions (in house and externally) and has been featured and recommended in various newspapers and TV shows. I'll second all of those recommendations.

Its main USP is that the menu consists of a list of sauces, and then, having selected one of those, you can choose whatever meat, fish, or vegetable you would like, cooked in your specified style. As well as the standard chicken, lamb, and prawn, you can also opt for monkfish, lamb chops, and a few other interesting options. The restaurant also boasts some award-winning dishes which are proudly displayed in a separate list. The food is simply delicious, and although it isn't cheap, the portions are very generous. The restaurant is smartly furnished, if rather small, and the staff are scrupulously polite. We always find the service to be very quick and attentive.
