He didn't like it at all when we started out a month ago, so I tried crushing and giving the pill in yogurt. That worked well, but it was a lot of work for me, emptying the little capsules, and mixing the medicine with yogurt. Apparently that was okay for him. Then my husband got the idea of feeding his pill wrapped in Kobassa. That worked absolutely great but I worried about the fat contents of the Kobassa. I talked over the problem with the Southside experts and they suggest Ben Bullys broken up and mixed with the medicine. It worked like a charm. I mixed it too when his dinner came along and he licked the bowl clean. What a relief it is when you don't have to worry about your beloved dog anymore. Thank you Southside. I was immediately greeted by Dr. Tahir Raza and his associate and diagnosed my pet. Unfortunately the diagnose was devastating due to an incurable infection. DR. Tahir drained some of the swelling but this was only temporary relief because of the infection would return within a few days. This gave my pet some comfort. Although my pet passed away a few days later, I was able to be with my pet for those extra few days, which I am very grateful for. I'm unfortunate in the sense my dachshund has had some health problems, but extremely fortunate that it's Nelson Animal Hospital I get to take her to. Each and every single time I've walked in the door, the service is absolutely unlike any other. The staff are so patient and professional with us worried owners and make you feel as everything will be handled to the best of their abilities, which seem endless. Each and every staff member are so knowledgeable and have a calm and cool attitude. With myself being a crazy and over protective dog owner, they make me feel so at ease. They do not push you in anyway to spend money on unnecessary tests or products. They speak from the heart as if they were talking to their own family member. I remember I told them once, I would like to do what I can for my baby, but I hate to say that I don't have all the money in the world. They completely agreed and didn't make me feel horrible as that's just the case for anyone! The entire staff handled the entire process of decision with enormous empathy. While they offered choices to lengthen our dear cat's life, we assessed the odds and the advice and easily chose euthanasia as the odds for survival of our kitty were grim. I thank Liz and Linda at the front desk and Dr. Meredith Allum for her compassion and handling of our Sambo's peaceful end.

I took my dog in for emergency care as she had been vomitting for days and was not eating. The…read morewait time was reasonable and the initial care from the vet was good BUT it went downhill thereafter. I was called back to feed my dog since staff were afraid of her. Despite having an IV, they were unable to give her calming meds. While she was supposed to stay overnight, I ended up bringing her home as the vet-techs were too afraid to treat her, I had to disconnect the IV myself. The most worrisome is that although they took an x-ray, they missed colonic torsion. Had I not taken her to another ER, she'd be dead. The other ER had no issues treating my dog which required an emergency surgery to save her life. She remained in their care for 2.5 days without issue. BVE prolonged my dog's suffering. We have spent thousands of dollars at this business over the years. Our issue with Eastside started a few days ago when we took our current cat to get her nails trimmed, her first time in for that service. The work was done, the animal was returned to us and lady who did the work informed us that she had noticed on our file that this cat was not up to date with her rabies shot and because of that we would not be able to bring her back for future services until that had been updated. The fee for this shot is apparently over $200 with the tax as the vet has to "examine" her before a shot can be administered so that exam fee inflates the cost. We had this same cat in for treatment twice within the prior 6 weeks and this had never been mentioned and had not prevented her treatment so we asked why the change in policy. She advised us that "its the law". The City of Hamilton Ontario had passed a by-law some 6 years ago requiring rabies shots for all domestic pets, even indoor cats like ours. So we asked why this is now an issue given our recent history. The answer (from the front desk person on duty) was that they had only started enforcing that by-law about 2 1/2 months ago. But remember we had been there after that and nothing was said. So very upsetting and very poor customer service. I'm sure the information could have been delivered differently given our long history with this clinic. We will of course be looking for another clinic to look after our pet. My sense is that the people in charge will not really care about the loss of our business or our dissapointment with how it all ended. This is a very large corporation and individual complaints will not affect their bottom line.
