I would like to report a negative transaction with a DVM Michael Mogavero This occurred on Sunday July 16 At Mohawk Animal Clinic (962 Upper James Hamilton, ON, L9C 3A5, 905 389 2286) around 1400. My ill dog required medical attention during off hours. At baseline the dog has mammary tumours and is over 14 years old. She is at the end of her life and we believed she would pass the night of Friday July 14 when she became febrile with rigors and purulent vaginal discharge. She declined food and water and thereby had little output. We attempted to administer analgesics but the dog refused oral intake. She was calm with a normal heart and respiratory rate indicating comfort. We anticipated she would pass through the night. However, my dog showed improvement the following day by eating, drinking, ambulating and moving her bowels appropriately. The vaginal discharge had stopped, as had the fever and rigors. Today the dog continued to show improvement which led us bring her into an emergency vet for assessment of a possible infection that could be treated with a simple course of antibiotic as well as transmucosal analgesia should the dog deteriorate. The next day, being a business day, we planned on taking her into our regular, trusted vet for further follow up. We were very clear with this emergency vet that we just wanted to her to pass away at home where she was born and raised and happiest. But given her recent improvement, we wanted to temporize the situation until we could see Dr. Marsales of Stonegates Vet Clinic. Upon entry to Mohawk Animal Clinic pleasantries were exchanged. The vet's response to "how are you?" resulted in a response of "living the life" with a poor bedside manner. My first impression of the vet was not good and the following confirmed my initial impression: -failure to obtain an adequate medical history of the dog (he asked minimal questions about the animal - I had to volunteer a lot of information without guidance) -failure to thoroughly assess the dog (only a focused assessment of the vagina and I had to insist he examine her tumours) -failure to educate us about pyometra (no other treatment options aside from surgical intervention discussed; euthanasia immediately suggested) -failure to provide compassionate and high quality care -unethical and disgraceful behaviour During the remainder of the short appointment the vet repeatedly announced that our actions towards this dog are cruel despite us reporting improvements with the animal. At one point, the vet left the room and returned to say "I know you don't like me but you paid me for an opinion....". At this point I was feeling shamed and offended. Furthermore, disgraceful behaviour was exhibited after the visit was completed; the vet approached our vehicle as we were leaving the driveway in order to further shame us for cruelty. He demanded the name of our regular vet (which we had already provided in the forms) and yelled that he is going to report us (my husband was with me). My husband and I are distraught right now as this vet made a bad situation worse. But at least my dog is out back happily barking at the other neighbourhood dogs. Though this may be one last spurt of energy before she passes, at least she is happy and comfortable at home, where we initially wanted her to be at the end of her life. Shame on that vet for his poor care and lack of compassion. This has created much distrust in this profession for myself. read more

0-STAR REVIEW!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM AND THEY PREY OFF PEOPLE IN VULNERABLE SITUATIONS. Took my cat here and was ordered bloodwork (told they were normal), an injection and fluids. Next day saw a different vet, who suggested something else. The third day I saw a new vet who said my cat was happy and back to normal. WRONG! I've now had to take my cat to a different hospital who were shocked that this place did not do an x-ray or ultrasound. I was told my cats bloodwork results were ABNORMAL! I spent $1200 at this place, with no improvement in my cat, and he continues to get sick. Do yourself a favour and take your pet somewhere else where their motive isn't just money. This place is absolutely disgusting. Not to mention the vets here are rude, dismissive and unprofessional. Save your pet and money and go to a business that is professional and will help you, not hurt you!!! read more

I would give ZERO STARS if I could. Dr. Mogavero is a raging narcissist that doesn't like it when his paying customers have some questions. He gets borderline irate, interrups the customer and yells "can I talk now?!" I believe he automatically assumes he's being challenged and reacts in a very aggressive, non-professional manner. He also is not honest in how much he quotes for surgery as it ends up being much more when it's done. $1400 turned into $2400. He is also an opportunist when it comes to added medications such as prescribing 9 months of flea and tick meds which takes us to March of 2024. Does that make sense? Fortunately I had the sense to refuse that length of time. Maybe the other customers are correct when they feel 'preyed upon'. After reading other reviews that this so-called veterinarian was rough with their dog, I can only hope he was kind to ours. We will NOT be entrusting our dog into the care of this person. I also refuse to support this guy with another penny of my hard earned money. I will find a real professional. read more

I would give no stars if possible . Took our dog there on a Sunday as she took quite I'll suddenly and clinic was close to our home . Waited way too long and we were sure our dog ingested something . We told them that . $260 emergency fee then finally after waiting ages dr comes in is very cold rude to us rough with the dog and asks if we want a quote for the bloodwork. Another appx $260 added but we would have paid anything for our beloved dog . Waited long for blood work . Dr comes back in finally didn't see anything tells us to take her home call him in the morning . Then when paying he proceeds to tell receptionist to charge us for some other test ? Appx bill was over $750! For what I don't know .. My husband suffered a job loss but we just wanted our baby to be ok. Took our girl home but she got worse . Tried to go to dundurn energency which we should have gone to first . They were booked up so we headed to Burlington. Ten minutes after arriving sadly the vet came and said our sweet girl had passed. Vet asked why the Hamilton vet didn't do intravenous or stomach pump as we figured and told him she may have eaten something toxic.?we are heartbroken beyond belief and Blame ourselves that we trusted this vet with our dogs life and now she is gone .Artogant cold individual that it cares about the money !! Please do not bring your beloved pets to this place please don't !!!! read more

Worst service I have ever encountered by a Vet...money grabbing place and disrespect for your animal...told one thing and told not to do it that way another...girls there go along with Dr.M whatever it takes..we will not be back there again....would not recommend this place at all read more

I recently had an emergency with my dog. A friend suggested I go there. I will never go back. After making an appointment, being 15min early and the veterinarian showing up 10min late, she did a 5min consultation, and told me she could not do anything because my dog was too sick for the clinic, charged me $100 and told me I should go to another animal hospital down the mountain. A decent human being would have gave me that advice and not charged me! read more

i rushed my senior cat here two weeks ago he is 16 yrs old with some pretty serious health issues, . the vet, man handled my cat slamming him to the table picking him up flipping him up and slammed his hind end down on the table hard enough to make him scream. he also forcefully choked him while trying to take his temperature. very very unprofessional and i will be filing a complaint with the OVC against Dr Mogavero. would not recommend mogavero to anyone. the rest of the staff is wonderful but he shouldn't be allowed to touch an animal. my cat cant walk properly anymore. read more

I will not go back to this clinic. Every time I bring my pets for needles I am charged different prices. They call it a certain visit and do the same 5 second exam than charge me anywhere from $90- $150.00 plus the immunizations. I have invoices of all the different prices for the same exams. Guess the Vet charges what they want or how much they think they can get out of you. MY previous Vet had a standard rate posted in the office so no funny business with the pricing. read more

The worst experience. My dog had her dew claw ripped and was bleeding quite a bit. The vet started by saying we were bad dog owners and it wouldn't have happened if her claw was trimmed. She has an appointment that week at the groomer. He then took her upstairs and wouldn't let us come, we paid for a local anesthetic and have no idea if he actually gave it to the pup. He then came downstairs to tell us our dog was crying for no reason as it wouldn't even hurt to have a dewclaw ripped off. When he brought her back to us she was wining and he told us again that we were bad dog owners for allowing her to do so. SHE WAS HURT and most likely in pain! he trimmed the rest of her nails and they were all bleeding as he cut them too short. Never go here!!!!! read more

I would never go back nor in any emergency recommend this vet clinic. The vet was questionable. We took our puppy in and the vet from behind the wall like a scared goat told us to put the muzzle on our dog when he started to bark at him? Seriously??? He then asked us to check our dog's neck? Seriously??? No diagnoses a few may this and maybe that's. He then checked his computer and looked at us and said this is just a puppy with a questionable look on his face? Seriously??? Your a vet and you could not see this was a 7 month old? Seriously??? We left a $100 short in our pockets, no meds with a very sick puppy and told we could come back if he got worse...SERIOUSLY.... My current vet is nearly an hour away so I was hoping to switch to a Hamilton vet. Desk staff and Dr. Schad were very pleasant and Dr. Schad performed a thorough check on my dog. All the stars go to those two folks. They did not have my preferred heartworm med and sold me something else that I had been told by other vets could kill my dogs (Aussie Shepherds - MDR1). I was told that was no longer the case, however when I got home I could find no studies supporting that so I called to say I'd be more comfortable with my original choice and would be returning the meds. The receptionist said I'd have to discuss that with the vet who owned the clinic, who said he wouldn't take them back as it was "unlikely" to hurt my dog. Also turned out that the packets of Purina supplements I was sold are all marked "Not for individual resale" and were just months from expiring. After contacting Purina it seems like these were free samples given to the clinic. Will not go back. read more
