We went to visit our son for his birthday who just moved to the area. Every year I get him a "birthday morning donut". Gotta keep the tradition! I did a search for the closest donut shop between our hotel and his apartment. This place came up... A total "keeper" of a donut store. My son loved his chocolate bar! (I had a bite of it and it WAS delish). My husband got an apple fritter and very much enjoyed it. He said it was different/not too sweet; in a good way. (I also tried some of that too and it was very tasty). I love me some donuts and sometimes a lot of donut places just aren't great and don't hit the spot. This place isn't one of them. I cannot recommend this shop as I bit down into my raspberry filled donut last week and got a mouthful of uncooked dough. I don't always have time to read all the reviews on Yelp before I stop somewhere but I have a lot of good experience and reviews with donut shops in this city. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed from the start. It's a small shop with a minimal selection. I only purchased 4 donuts and opted to try a savory croissant because even though I headed in with a sweet tooth there just wasn't much to be had. When I went to pay, I saw a sign that that they charge to use a card here. I was happy that they posted it as I have no issue with small businesses passing fees along as long as I am notified beforehand. What I was not happy about was the fee. They charge .50 regardless of purchase. Credit card companies charge vendors around 1.5 -3% to use their service and I understand if they need to have the customer cover, but arbitrarily choosing an amount to charge where they are most likely profiting off that fee for the majority of their sales is shady. You would have to spend close to $20 per transaction and with their limited and plain selection, I seriously doubt that is their average transaction. I don't like dishonest policies. The one star in this review is definitely for the croissant. It was small but tasty and although very overpriced for $6 it made for a good appetizer on my drive. When I got home i tried a bit of a blueberry donut but it had a very strange aftertaste and I did not want to finish it. I had wanted an old fashioned maple but I guess they didn't have that so I was given a plain old fashioned and I did not want that either, so I bit into the jelly donut. The first bite was fine on the exterior but when I took my second bite, ready to start tasting some of that jelly, my mouth was filled with raw dough. I tried to spit it out but I did swallow some and it was so sticky I had to wipe my tongue with a napkin. It was not a good experience. I threw the food away and I would not return. If you have time to read the reviews, which include moldy undercooked food, please do it before coming here. If you don't have time, just keep scrolling yelp. There are so many other good donut locations in town, do yourself a favor and go to one of them. read more

Went for a snack and got a couple of those long chocolate donuts for $1.25 each and a chocolate mocha Starbucks drink for $3. It honestly filled me up and they were pretty nice. The store seems bare otherwise with little seating but they provide great service! :) read more

This has been my favorite donut shop for over 20 years. The husband and wife always greet me the same way each time and I've even placed orders at 4 AM for pick up that day and he has always come through for us. Most recently the couple sold, and retired, their niece and nephew bought the place and the donuts are somewhat different now, but I'm assuming the new guy is working out the bugs. I truly hope this is the case, I was in a couple days ago to get an old fashion chocolate, and the donut didn't even resemble an old-fashioned chocolate so I'm hoping maybe he just had an off day. one good thing that they do now is they make chocolate raised with sprinkles, this used to be what I would special order at 4 AM usually on a weekly basis from the old owners so now they are just available to anyone which is very nice. I'm praying now-that the new owners live up to what the old owners made me accustomed to for over 20 years. CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY. I made the mistake of ordering 34 donuts only to find out I couldn't use my debit card?! I had to run across the street to the nearest gas station. Even though it's a mom and pop business you have to get up to the times by using modern technology! It can't save them that much money to not have access to use plastic. As another reviewer stated, there is nothing remarkable about this doughnut shop, save for the day old doughnuts, which are a good buy at $2.25 per paper plate, cellophane wrapped. The coffee is not bad, but certainly not in competition with Starbucks one block away or the private coffee shop across the way. Always fresh donuts. I like that the open early so I can get there on the way to work. I asked them once what time they started making donuts in the morning and they told me 2:30 am!! I am surely glad it is them and not me getting up that early! Great place and a Lodi treasure. On a side note... coffee is just average but across the street is House of Coffee which is the best coffee shop in town. So same corner two stops shopping! read more
