This review reflects our direct experience while my mother and father were residents at Village Veranda at Lady Lake, and it is written with urgency in the hope that this situation is taken seriously and resolved appropriately. After my parents moved out, we discovered that multiple personal items were missing, including cash, checks, a wallet, a gold ladies Rolex watch, and a gold and diamond pendant -- items that were unquestionably in their possession prior to entering the facility. Many of these pieces carried deep sentimental value, including jewelry gifted during a 63-year marriage. When our family reviewed bank statements dating back to October 2025, we identified numerous transactions that neither parent authorized. We immediately contacted the bank's fraud department. After investigation, the bank informed us that the fraudulent activity was linked to an employee of the facility. The unauthorized charges included multiple T-Mobile transactions for bills and equipment, PayPal charges, a Capital One payment, and a rent payment to Omni + Brook Rental Management Co. Families place immense trust in assisted living facilities -- not only to provide care, but to protect vulnerable residents and their property. Our parents, like many residents, were elderly and experiencing memory challenges. Discovering financial exploitation under these circumstances has been devastating to our family. Since this ordeal began, our father has passed away, compounding the emotional toll and making the loss of irreplaceable sentimental items even more painful. We entrusted this facility with our parents' care believing proper employee screening and safeguards were in place. Had we known of any prior concerns that could impact resident safety, our decisions would have been very different. This situation raises serious questions about hiring practices, oversight, and accountability. We are seeking a clear response from Village Veranda regarding how they intend to make this right and what steps are being taken to prevent this from happening to other families. We will pursue every appropriate avenue to obtain justice and restitution, but ultimately facilities bear responsibility for the people they employ and the protection of the residents entrusted to them. We strongly urge prospective families to safeguard valuables, closely monitor finances, and ask detailed questions about employee screening and internal protections when evaluating care facilities. read more

I have been a resident for a year. It is my first experience in an assisted living facility. As with all group type facilities, some people are happy and some have unrealistic expectations. Some don't want to be here, some don't know why they are here. In my experience, the food is good. Medication administration could use some efficiency re-design. Housekeeping is good. Activities are great. Some people elect to participate while others do not. But, it is here if you want it. The only time you don't get laundry done is if you choose to do it yourself or send it out. I get my laundry done , my apartment cleaned and linen changed weekly. I manage my own prescriptions via my own pharmacy. The new corporate management is in place and I am seeing new hires in all departments. I am sure there was a hiring freeze curing the change over. While I still struggle with the need for assistive living, the services I need are here and I am thankful. read more

Extremely poor care they can not keep staff. Items stolen from residents rooms. I had furniture stolen from my father's room when he was in the hospital. They will not take responsibility and apparently their cameras do not work. They force you to use their pharmacy and demand a Psychiatrist evaluation. The person who evaluated my father was not a Psychiatrist he was a student. I had cameras in his room. The demanded my father go on Valium he was not violent or needing it. Do not agree to Psychiatric Evaluation take your loved one to a doctor away from this place . Laundry not done for a month, items washed together in hot. Sheets not changed in a month. No actives for men. This was truly a hellish experience my father was dead in less than 30 days since they never filled his oxygen tanks. read more

As so many others noted, this place should be ashamed of itself. The facility itself is beautiful but its run beyond poorly. Constant problems with medication and food delivery. Poor seniors don't get to eat because the staff (or lack thereof) forgets to bring them food. I've had to beg for meals four times just in the last week because they forgot to deliver to my parent who is on Hospice. Medication delivery is a nightmare. Every single day its late - sometimes VERY late, sometimes not at all. Nobody is ever around so when we look for a med tech to get the pills, the hallways are barren. Calling the facility after 5pm or on weekends is useless. They NEVER answer the phone. The "panic" button residents wear around their necks go unanswered for 30-40 minutes or more before someone comes. Its absolutely ridiculous, despicable treatment of our beloved seniors. And its expensive so they have some nerve providing this disgusting lack of care. I have a long written list of detailed issues since move in so I'm not just being dramatic - it really is that bad. I called corporate and they said the local regional manager would call me. He never did. They don't care. I deeply regret moving my parent into this horrible facility. read more

Village Veranda is a great place to live. I have lived here for over a year and I love the new management! We have an excellent community and I'm very thankful for our activity director. She goes above and beyond to make sure that we all are as involved as we want to be. We have a lot of fun here. We are fully staffed, which is amazing in this economy. The staff is friendly and helpful. I feel very safe here as well. read more

The latest is they recently almost killed my Mom-well she still may die soon as a result of getting Covid from at least SEVEN other residents with Covid. They did NOT inform us that it was going around. She was too weak to go down to get her meals, we had to call some days 9 times to get a little food brought up to her. She was in her same clothes for days. We took her out of the VV and brought her to the hospital to find out she had a UTI, and Covid, and Covid pneumonia, she also needed and get her gallbladder out. She was so sick and they seemed to ignore it! She was also supposed to get her Covid booster shot a year ago, and they never gave it to her! read more

Village Veranda...I am not even sure where to start...skeleton staff is the least of the problems. The main staff, the Director, Asst Director, Office Mgr, Head Nurse, Restaurant Chef and Staff and Accounting staff have changed no less than 3-4x in the past 6 months. The most unfortunate part of this revolving door of staff, is the next person to fill that empty position, is already tasked with current responsibilities, but fixing someone else's mistakes. It's an insurmountable task for anyone. The Bus Driver who provides transportation left months ago. There's no Social Worker, no liason. Ive never seen results of Bloodwork supposedly taken every week. Or any other tests. There's never anyone to speak with regarding medical situations, concerns or updates. No one returns calls. They bill for thousands more a month then the agreed amt with no explanation. HIRE MORE EDUCATED, QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED, PROFESSIONALS, AND DO NOT HAVE UNQUALIFIED, UNLICENSED, NON-ACCREDITTED, OR DEGREED STAFF TENDING TO NEEDS OF RESIDENTS, ESPECIALLY ADMINISTERING MEDS! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GIVING A PATIENT OR WHY, YOU SHOULDN'T BE HANDING OUT MEDS. My Father arrived mid Sept. He had 2 tours and lunch prior to choosing VILLAGE VERANDA. There was supposedly a James Beard Award Winning Chef on staff who offered a full 5-star menu in the restaurant for every meal... Lots of Recreational and Social Activities ... Transportation by bus weekly off the premises to shopping or other errands... Top notch team of in house doctors or access to outside doctors or specialists... Plenty of support, for residents and Caregiver, (family) based on initial evaluation of resident's requirements upon intake... And above all, PRIVACY AND SECURITY!!! NONE OF THAT EXISTS... * My Father's room was never fully furnished, per the contract. To this day, I am paying for a 1 bdrm that only has a bedroom with no usable living space. * He has been in a wheelchair since he arrived, which he was not in prior, even tho he has multiple walkers and canes and other DMEs that I supplied....but 6 months later he still can't get physical therapy. * They did not do the initial intake until November! They never informed me of the results or recommendations, which by law, as his Caregiver and DPOA, they are obligated to do. They diagnosed him with half a dozen issues he didn't have and missed the serious ones he does have. * They never asked for a medical history * Ive asked on numerous occasions, based on prior findings and diagnosis, (including the fact that he had a stroke weeks before going to VV, at a Rehab Facility (CHATHAM GLEN...ANOTHER FACILITY TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!) to have him follow up with Specific Specialists. No one has seen him. * I finally got a list of the medications prescribed. They have him on a nightly dose of Lexapro, Benedryl and Ambien! That's enough medication to keep anyone sedated all night, never waking up! That's in addition to the heart meds, blood pressure meds and various other meds he takes. Then they give him both Rx and OTC Stool Softeners and Laxatives daily, simultaneously, and wonder why he can't make it out of bed to the bathroom in time! I finally sent him adult Pull ups and wipes so he didn't have to panic every time he couldn't make it. Because then he had to eait for assistance with cleaning up, changing bedding and clothing. All bc he is overmedicated and undernourished! * He has unexplained cash missing from his wallet, that he definitely had upon arrival and always has his wallet on him. I am concerned about the other items he wears on a daily basis, thst he takes off when he showers. It's terrible to even have to worry about these things! This is dupposed to be a "Private Apt"...some expectations of privacy and security should be guaranteed! * Staff enters his room unannounced, at their leisure, anytime, at their discretion, whether a residentis there or not. Yet the on staff doctor has not seen him one time since he has been there. * The Chef is now a Line Cook. The food is not 5 star. My Father is buying junk food from Walmart. * I have called several times, sent emails, asked for updates regarding my fathers progress...no one has given me an update in 8 months! My Father has Regressed significantly since his short time at this facility. I am concerned about the skill level of the staff that is responsible for my Father's care, tbeir judgment and their ability to respond or handle a medical situation or emergency. It's an absolutely horrible feeling living in another state and trusting your loved one to what I can only describe as a disaster and liability. I can go on and on literally listening all of the things I have found deplorable about this facility. But I am hoping I provided enough for others to do their due diligence. read more
