Last year, while visiting with my dog, we had a leash mishap. I was mortified, but the owner was very understanding about it, and willing to work with me on a way to pay him back. If they haven't already put a "No dogs allowed" sign on the door, it's best to leave your pup outside or at home.

We decided to chance the drive out past downtown and it was well worth the trip; the Pottery's grounds are lovely (nice dahlias) and the shop was filled with what the Web site advertised. Multiple styles of mugs and dishes in striking and idiosyncratic glazes of many kinds. We chose sea green and (sea?) blue that the potter advised us were so notable because ground glass was scattered in the glaze; when she didn't have a piece in a glaze I wanted she cheerfully offered to glaze a piece to meet my hopes and send it on when it was ready. Absolutely worth the trip; we hope to return and add to our collection. UPDATE: The mugs we bought are excellent for coffee flavor. Know how different mugs make coffee taste different? We think these -- the big one with gently sloping-out sides and the straight-sided larger one -- provide excellent flavor. Also, dishwasher-safe, so yeah.
