What a treasure of a place. From the amazing vantage point perched on the top of town, to the…read moreglorious old building that is the Bischoff Hotel. Steeped in history this grandiose old lady has a lot of it all over her walls for each visitor to peruse at their leisure. Whilst the decor is antiquated and at times mismatched it has a charm that works. The bar is like all good Aussie small towns in that it's a place to meet locals, swap stories and have a laugh whilst enjoying a cold one at the end of the day. The meals are good sized servings and you're left feeling content. I'd recommend the sticky date pudding as a way to round out the evening. Well worth making the effort to visit if you're ever in the area. Accomodation is also available if not staying locally.

The lodge itself houses a lovely al la carte restaurant and a tavern that offers great classic pub meals and live music on Wednesday evenings (courtesy of the local ranger!). The cabins are cosy and either have a wood fire or imitation wood gas heater. All of the staff are lovely amd the pademelons and wombats that frequent the grounds are happy for a chat too! Plenty of walks to do in the local area or spend some time in the spa for some pampering! Phone and internet coverage are non existent however you can purchase a code to access the wi-fi.

Gayle and I wish we could have stayed here at least another night. We loved the "staying in a…read moreNational" park feel, but with modern touches and a nice restaurant that we enjoyed for Dinner and Breakfast. There's also a nice gallery across the way, and a few light hiking options from the building. Our room was very comfortable and roomy, although the bathroom was a little tight. We were afraid to unpack too much for a one night stay, and there was enough storage for longer stays. This is a place we'd love to come back to for a deeper dive into the Cradle Mountain area.

We decided to opt for the buffet - which was perfect for us after a day of walking and only a light lunch. The buffet featured seasonal and local produce and the selections changed daily. The service staff were excellent - very professional.

We initially came to Peppers lodge very excited to explore the Australian wilderness. However, we…read morewere left with only disappointment regarding the terrible service and extremely rude staff. First, we went to the Tavern to eat lunch and whilst our group ordered first, the food came last (the food of most of the other guests in the restaurant came first). When we asked the staff about it, they refused to help or even apologize. It took over one hour for the food to come, and when it arrived everything was cold, soggy or overcooked. Perhaps If you want a medium rare steak cooked well done for 40 dollars served alongside rude staff, then this is the place for you. When we spoke with Shane, the manager, he only defended himself and refused to apologize or even acknowledge their wrongdoings. The next day, my 85 year old mother in law was left to wait outside in the cold for almost 20 minutes at 630 AM because the staff refused to allow us into the lobby to check out. The staff of Peppers lodge have no compassion or care for their customers, this is by far the worst service we have ever encountered for a hotel, it is not even worth 1 star.

The lodge itself looks rustic but it is very modern with Wi-Fi and all amenities; however, there is no Wi-Fi at the cabins you stay in nor is there any TV. So if you need this type of technology, probably not the best bet for you. With bonuses such as hot chocolate kits with marshmallows and other wonderful things like a wood fireplace? This place is heaven. I will say it is the one place on the planet where you can sit on your deck and see pademelons, wombats, possums, and other wildlife walk right past your door. Rooms include a very lavish breakfast. The restaurant's okay at best. It's kind of mediocre but they try very hard and that makes a difference. You can do a variety of very lovely walks to waterfalls and other features without getting a pass into the national reserve. Or you can get a pass and go in and do other more extensive hikes.
