Absolutely ridiculous they are able to stay in business and charge this much for gas. The national average as of 10/31/16 was $2.24/gallon and they were charging $5.99!! What in the world?! I thought it was a joke at first. I verified by pumping a gallon and then going inside to ask the manager. He waved me off like he'd heard my complaint a thousand times before and said to contact the franchise on the receipt. Well, I never got a receipt from the pump (and wasn't going to go inside to see him again) and from the looks of receipts posted here, a franchise name and contact isn't listed. I've reported this gas station to the Florida Attorney General's office, as well as directly to Shell themselves, tagged them and CNN on twitter and left negative reviews on google and now Yelp. This place is a total rip off!!! Sign says $2.77 per gallon for gas. When you swipe your credit card the place changes to $3.79 per gallon. If customers do not pay attention they get ripped off at the pumps. The cashier got RUDE when asked if the pump was correct. Good afternoon I traveled from Miami to Orlando last week and when I was arriving in the city needed to fuel the car. As always use the Shell stations in Brazil decided to stop. I did not know what were the prices practiced in the United States. Here in Brazil we paid the price per liter and in the USA the price is per gallon. The price charged was $ 5.999 per gallon. I paid a total of $ 80.00. I felt robbed and cheated, because gas stations later were charging about $ 2.00 per gallon. I refueled the car again in another place and spent only $ 25.00 for the same amount of fuel. I got screwed at this place! I happen to be driving by in the morning and saw the place was empty and I was like oh great let me fill up while it's early! Swiped my card and it didn't even ask for a pin number or ZIP Code which I thought was weird. .. I proceeded to fill my truck up... as it was filling I kind a looked at the pumps and thought they looked kind of strange like they were missing something . There are places on the pumps that have a black tape of sorts were something used to be. Then within a minute or two the pump stops at $75 and I have 10 gallons of fuel!! Wtf! Then I look around for the price and there's one sign out front at waist level that says $6.99 a gallon! So I go inside and ask the clerk is that the price for gas? And he says yes and I'm like what the hell there's no place in Florida that has gas that high! After I explain to him it's price gouging he says well the sign outside says the price and That I can go on YouTube and see his gas station has been on there and the local news!! So basically this gas station goes by the basic standards where their signs have to be with the minimal advertising required to sell gas. They have strategically made this gas station where where you don't see the price till it's too late! Unfortunately the state of Florida does not protect its consumers from this! And I happen to work for the department of agriculture. Our state does not have price gouging laws unless there is a declared state of emergency. That needs to be changed. Price gouging is price gouging and this is obviously price gouging. I will be contacting the state of Florida attorney and my boss Commissioner Nikki Fried to see what the state is going to do in the future to keep this from happening. Gas cost $5.89 for regular here and only $3.23 at a Shell less than a mile away (this was written in November 2011, so has changed -- but the price difference is what is notable). It is right across from the Marriott village, so they probably get lots of vacationers. Go somewhere else! read more
