Probably some of the best food I've ever eaten in Spain, as far as "homestyle" restaurants go. We…read morecame here after an afternoon of strolling Park Guell and were welcomed by the daughter of the owner, who was super friendly and concerned that we ate well there. This place has been in business for 24 years and for good reason: a 20-Euro lunch menu including crusty toasted bread with tomato and olive oil, tortilla espanola, cogollos de endivia (endive w/ sauteed garlic and raisins), little artisanal hot links on top of toast rounds (spicy!), croquettes, succulent roast lamb w/ poblano peppers, gambas con bacalao, and then dessert...plus Basque cider and agua con gas? Una ganga! I nearly teared up during my meal it was so good. The server treated us to an anise liqueur called "pacharan" at the end of lunch, and we ended up getting a bottle (9 euros) to go. What a find. Do not hesitate to come here. Normally only open for dinner, but we were here on Easter Sunday and I could not have asked for a better experience. .... Para chuparse los dedos! Comida excelente con una moza encantadora y simpatica. Uau.

We happily complied and were served tap beer and "Vermut de la muelte", or iced vermouth with bitters and shredded dried orange peel. We dined on boquerones en vinagre, sardines, marinated olives, skewers of peppers, olives and sardines, and sandwiches of omelet and imitation crab, eggplant, and salmon and tuna salads. We would've eaten more but knew we had to head over to Park Güell and get in before the sun set. Before we left, the proprietor poured a double shot of whiskey into a glass, lit it on fire, and put it under his coffee machine as it dispensed two shots of espresso. It was for him. He was very nice to talk to.

When I arrived at 9:30 pm on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was full and there were about 15 people waiting outside. They were able to seat everyone within about 15 minutes though. I came in as a solo and sat at the bar next to another solo. By the time I left an hour later, there was plenty of room in the restaurant. That's not because they rush you out, but because the food (tapas primarily) comes out quickly, and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The food was very good. I had an asparagus, mushroom, and Iberian ham dish that was delightful. I also had a cheese plate (which was more expensive than most of the things on the menu ... but was worth it - large portions of very good cheeses). I am not a food snob, but am particular. What I had was great, and from my position at the bar I could see two of the grills where meats, shrimp, and vegetables were being cooked-up and they all looked very good. I am a bit of a snob about wine. If I were there for a bottle, they had a decent selection. But just by the glass, they had white (regular and special) and red (regular and special) -- each a bottle chosen to feature that week. I was not expecting much, but for the "special" red I asked for, I was given the choice of more fruity or more bold and, having chosen the 'bold" was poured a nice Spanish red. It was very good for the tapas meal that evening, for about 3.50 Euros. Went well with the meal choices, as the server assured me when I requested it. It is a place for friends -- or solo -- but definitely a place to relax and enjoy a nice, casual meal. I'd definitely bring friends or work colleagues next time I am in town.

Vinitus has a wide selection of tapas that are reasonably priced, which makes it a great spot to try a variety of dishes without breaking the bank. There's about a one-and-a-half hour limit per table, but the service is efficient and the pace works well for a tapas-style meal. It's also super convenient, only about a five-minute walk from our hotel. My favorites were the Spanish omelette, acorn fed Iberian Ham, and the croquetas with Iberian ham and chicken. Definitely save room for dessert as the cheesecake and the crème brûlée were a perfect way to end the meal. They also offer a good selection of beer and wine.
