The pub is steeped in history and that is reflected in the well kept but near un-touched interior. They have some great ales on tap and all are served with a friendly smile and, if not too busy, are happy to talk through some of the pub's history. The garden here in the summer is fantastic. The views are breath-taking and they run a barbecue every Sunday which of course, does attract a huge crowd so either get there early or have some extra bags of patience with you. We head there without fail once a year with a big group of friends and spend the whole afternoon eating and drinking beer, I highly advise you to do the same!

We had a roast yesterday and it was delicious - lots of vegetables, loads of meat and a nice option for my vegetarian husband. The bathroom, whilst small, was new, bright and clean with Gilchrist & Soames toiletries and the breakfast is one of the best I've had in a long time: full English or options including scrambled egg with smoked salmon, kippers with a soft poached egg and a veggie version. Please note that there are LOTS of narrow stairs to climb if you are staying on 3rd-4th floors. Of course, staff forewarns customers upon booking and on website as well. Larger rooms are very nicely decorated in modern country style and more luxurious. Good breakfast in bright, quaint front room. Staff is very efficient and ready to help out when needed.
