One of my fav record stores in one of my fav neighborhoods. They consistently host great local artists and DJs and have a great collection. Sometimes the prices might not agree but hey you can order drinks from next door nook and have it while listening to some grooves. Remember to dig their bargain bins underneath the new record bins and also their value bins. I have found some gems for unbeatable prices in them. read more

I wish I could give them a million stars! 5/5! Found out about Vinyl Index through my searching for a D'Angelo tribute night. I am huge fan of his and I wanted to find anywhere that was doing something to honor him. I was told that this place was doing a tribute night playing all of his records. The staff are so friendly and informative about the music they are selling. They have a few seats by the bar where you can order drinks. Super cool record store in a great location! Bow Market is such a cool little market square. Bow Market is all about small businesses and artists. It's located right by Union Square (Green Line). The tribute night was amazing. The vibes were immaculate and it was a great way to connect with fellow D'Angelo fans. We got to laugh, cry, dance and vibe all night. I was able to browse around their entire collection and bought a record since I am starting to DJ. They have so many options at affordable prices. I came here for a tribute night but they have a lifelong customer out of me! I will be back to buy more records. read more

My favorite record store in all of greater Boston. Aaron is incredibly kind, passionate and knowledgeable (and an awesome artist in his own). He's turned me on to so many different artists and is always spinning something exciting. The whole staff, simply, is awesome. They're always working with the community, super communicative and eager to help the customers. Check out their events for listening and dancing parties or simply stop by to chat and grab a drink. I highly recommend this place for lifelong music fans or people eager to learn more. Vinyl Index in Bow Market is a quintessential grade A record store with great prices, too. read more

This is a hip-hop store. It has sporadic, very limited selection of rock and jazz, obnoxious, absolutely stoned clerk, and it reeks of marijuana. On top of all - you cannot listen to their used records before you buy them! read more

A meticulously organized record shop that may or may not double as the secret hideout for the ​notorious supervillain, CZARFACE. This tiny store packs a ton of records in one small space--and most are cleanly packaged in shrinkwrap with Japanese​-style obi strips featuring notes about the record enclosed. Whoever organized this place has severe OCD--in a good way! Records range from expensive rare finds to a selection of cheap wax in the bargain box under the register. They also have a good selection of turntables and other accessories needed for listening to their fine selection of vinyl. read more

Vinyl index is a very nice addition to the Union Square area. Located in the newly open Bow Market, it's easy to make the visit your worthwhile with delicious beer and coffee options on the ground level (not to mention other shops on the upper level.) But Vinyl Index also stands on its own with a diverse selection of mostly new records. First thing I noticed (both via their social media and walk into their store) was the quite generous selection of hip hop records. While not really a huge connoisseur of the genre, I do know good albums when I see them. If you're looking to expand your collection in this area, Vinyl Index will definitely take care of you. They also had decent size sections for soul, jazz, and of course your typical rock, indie, punk, etc. They have a small section of used Records up front, but I didn't spend a ton of time flipping through. There was certainly some good records, but seemed to be mostly classics (don't expect to find hella obscure used titles here, at least, not as of now.) Finally, the store was amply supplied with misc vinyl items like cleaning tools and the like. So if you want to make sure your new tunes are properly cared for, they've got you covered there too. All in all, super psyched to have another record store in the neighborhood. Between Grooves used selection and Vinyl Index' new titles, you're covered. read more

Awesome record store that any collector will be happy to visit when in Boston. They take quality seriously. I've also been a subscriber to their Kid's 45 Club for about 3 years, and the selections are always on point. It's a great way to foster a love of music in your kids. Super dope record store in a super dope location! Bow Market is such a cool little market square/plaza. Bow Market is all about small businesses and artists making money and it's such a nice spot. The owner of vinyl index is an indie artist/DJ/producer and his record selection is amazing. I would definitely recommend stopping in and the plus side is that you'll also be able to visit all the other amazing shops in the market. read more

Love this record store! They have pretty much every record you could ever want - a really good combination of old and new music. If they don't have what you are looking for they will order it for you! I didn't know that I needed the Taylor Swift album on vinyl until I saw it there. Now I know that I can't live without it (the discs are bubblegum pink and baby blue). Also they host really fun parties in the Bow Market courtyard. Vinyl Index was a great find! Small shop. Very knowledgeable owners/workers. Good collection of used vinyl. Not as much new but ok. They even carry U-Turn turntables! It's a small store tucked away in a complex with all sorts of small stores carrying various items - I'm going to be honest, I haven't even taken a sneak peak or a side glance at any of the other stores, I am very focused on records. I am also very particular about the records that I buy, and it isn't uncommon for me to leave stores empty-handed. The thing I like about Vinyl Index is the level of curation. Instead of digging through mountains of crap, you have the opportunity to look through music that is clearly designed to get the heads excited. If you're an all four corners of the store kind of person then this is a great spot. You can pick up quality house, disco, funk, soul, international, hip hop, electronic and all points in between. The guys being super nice is an added bonus, and if you ask up I'm sure the recommendations will fill your ears with joy, and become staple "have you heard this?!" records for years to come. The only thing missing is a section where I put in all the records you should buy as there are plenty. I guess their Staff Picks will suffice, but don't overlook the Explore section next to it. read more

Vinyl Index: very nice addition for music lovers, located on the top floor of Bow St. Marketplace. The small store is nicely laid out, and while all genres are represented, the dance and hip hop sections are extensive. The presentation is top-notch, with the records in shiny plastic overwraps and higher-profile selections proudly displayed from wall to wall in the tiny space. I have purchased several records from Index, and most appeared to be virtually unplayed. But be forewarned: expect to pay a premium for records here, you won't find many bargains in Index. Quality definitely rules over quantity, with several OG hip hop pressings to be found ranging between $50-$100 (ex: Jay-Z, O.D.B., Wu-tang). With that said I just picked up VERY NICE copies of a Beatnuts compilation for $18 and an ONYX best-of EP for only $7. So you definitely need to look around in here, and the upside is you just might find something in their carefully curated selection that you can't get anywhere else. The store is clean, as mentioned the records are pristine and the staff is cool and chill. I always love coming in here, even if its to window shop and listen to a few tunes the guys are spinning. Bottom line: if you are looking for bargains, start at nearby Grooves and/or Bluebag... But if you are a serious, hardcore record collector with cash to burn (and a hip hop head) you will LOVE Vinyl Index. read more
