There she is. We found her. Why are you out and about, possibly intoxicated, in a European city…read morewandering aimlessly in the cold? You're looking for a rotating mountain of meat like an oasis in the desert so that you can get a doner wrap, sandwich, or box. I have good news! I've found where you should be, and it's Berliner Doner. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? There is seemingly always a line a Berliner Doner, and that was the case even on a windy and intermittently rainy Sunday evening when there were seemingly no other people in the entire city of Vienna. Fortunately, the line at Berliner moves real quick, and even ten deep you'll have your food within twenty minutes tops. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I genuinely cannot get over the price points at Berliner. My standard chicken doner sandwich was, wait for it, €3,50. That's it. That's all. That's the tweet. I obviously should have gone double meat for one euro more, but in summary is the best deal in town full stop. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? And just like that it all came together. The fresh pita, the flavorful chicken, the fantastic peripherals with red and white sauces that could easily rival any high quality stand in London or New York or Los Angeles. This was marvelous and there was no weak link. Period. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Every damn night if I could. Star.

Yummy fresh salads, delicious sauces, shavings of lamb on top, washed down with a couple Gösser beers - perfect post drinking fare. Under €20 - awesome value. Way better than doner kebabs in Australia! There's some outdoor seating. Ambiance is simple, quick, outdoor takeaway. Nothing fancy. Would I take a date here? Probably not. Would I make it a required stop after a big night drinking? Hell yes. I ordered in German, the guy didn't switch to English. So not sure if they speak any English here. Recommend!

Bitzinger is a must-try if you're in Vienna and craving a proper Austrian sausage!…read more We ordered the Käsekrainer--a juicy pork sausage stuffed with pockets of oozy melted cheese, served simply with fresh bread and mustard. It was absolutely fantastic! We paired it with a Radler, and honestly, this is the kind of street food I'll be craving long after leaving Vienna. Service is quick and efficient despite the constant crowds. It's an unassuming hot dog stand in a prominent spot in the city, but don't let the simplicity fool you--the sausage is the star here. Definitely stop by for a Käsekrainer when you're in Vienna!

If you're on the go, you can get it served in a bread and eat it as you walk. If you have a little more time, get the sausage sliced and served with sauerkraut and mustard. The line moves pretty quickly, and the location is super convenient, especially if you're visiting the nearby museum or opera house. I stopped by right when they opened, so there was barely a line, but I've heard it gets progressively longer throughout the day. One tip: check out the menu beforehand so you know what you want when you reach the front. They move quickly and don't seem to have much patience for indecisive customers!
