However, I was asked to come along for moral support and to step in if anything happened (no clue how I would've done that, but hey ho, I wasn't going to argue). Rafael (the client) called in the morning to see if there was any chance of him getting his hair cut. You must understand, he's been wanting to do something to his hair for a while, but he's never dared to and kept going for a normal, 7/9 pound hair cut. "Splurging" (bah!) 20 quid for a hair cut was not an easy decision to make. However, he did. So, he called, and got an appointment. We walked in, and a really nice guy (sorry, I have no idea what his name is) took our bags and coats (yes, even mine!), explained that Tommy was still busy cutting a clients hair, and whether we wanted something to drink. We declined, but later I realised they have a properly stocked bar in the far corner - I'm talking a good selection of whiskies (even I approve of some of them) and beers etc. It has a friendly atmosphere. As a girl, slightly intimidating (especially when dressed for a long day in the lab rather than to impress) but everybody was very nice and didn't really pay that much attention anyways. Everybody looks comfortable and chatty and like they really know that they're doing. I was able to listen in to one particular conversation that was going on at the chair in front of me, and I loved how much time the barber (?) took with his client to explain exactly what he was doing so that the guy would be able to replicate the look at home with his own hair brush, gel stuff and blow dryer (this experience opened my eyes to the world of mens hairstyling that I have never experienced in any sort of closeness, but that's besides the point). I love the music that the play also. Rafael was asked over and explained to Tommy what he wanted done with his hair, Tommy smiled and got to work. Personally, I think he did a fantastic job. Rafael was very happy. Lots of extras were offered (including neck shaving?). Rafael says he will definitely be coming, maybe not next month, and with slightly longer hair so that he barber has a little more hair to work with. From both of me, this places gets a thumbs up and we can both recommend this to anybody!

I like the shop's atmosphere; it's modern and cool but not pretentious or intimidating. Mike is a pro at his craft and also a real gentleman. He consults with you beforehand and explains what he'll do, making sure you get the haircut you want. He's also a good conversationalist and plays good tunes. It all adds up to a high quality, relaxing experience. Which is what getting your haircut should be like, right? Couldn't be more pleased to have found Mike at Brother. Highly recommended.

However, the impression I was left with after visiting is that David Corbett isn't as fancy as it thinks it is. And quite frankly it's a bit of a mess. The salon's being done up (allegedly) at the moment, although I went here a few weeks ago with a voucher my parents got me for my birthday in August, and my Mum said it was in that state when she went in. 3 months before that. There were wires hanging out in some places, bits of the salon that can't be used at all just now and it just doesn't look nice inside. I know my parents paid a fair bit for the haircut and I felt bad that I'd wanted to go here in the first place. My stylist, Siobhan was really great and I absolutely couldn't fault her, she listened to what I said (huzzah!) and checked a few things with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. But getting my hair done in David Corbett just wasn't really a nice experience overall due to the surroundings. Well, that and the fact that when I went in I was totally ignored and left standing about for a bit like a total muppet. The reason I was interested in getting my hair done here (besides the "fancy" bit) is that they're on the Paul Mitchell (cruelty-free hair stuff) website as being a stockist. I never saw any evidence of Paul Mitchell products, but of course this could be an error of Paul Mitchell's and not David Corbett. (I didn't bring it up when I was there because my parents had got me the voucher so I didn't really want to make a fuss, so again that bit isn't the fault of David Corbett.) If I'm going to spend a bit of money gettin' ma hair did, I prefer it to be somewhere I enjoy being in and know I'm gonna get totally pampered in. Unfortunately I just didn't get that in here. Hoping for their sake that things improve in future!

David done my wedding hair in July 2010and my personal experience was spectacular. David done both my bridesmaids and my trail on a Sunday(a day when the salon is closed) to make sure he could spend as much time to perfect the look and our hair was just amazing! On the day of my wedding David came to my house on a Sunday and brought a another member of staff with him to make sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish, which it did. He arrived at 7.30am sharp and had all 11 people finished and looking a million dollars by 11.30am. His passion and enthusiasm for his job is exceptional and the effort he put in to everyone's hair that day was just incredible. My own hair was like a work of art, so much so that people are still talking about it to this day! So I think it's fair to say that no-one could argue with his hair dressing ability!! But having him there on the day was also great, his infectious personality and positive persona made everyone feel happy and he definitely added a special something to the atmosphere on the biggest day of my llife! On the day of your wedding you want the people around you making you feel special and he certainly knows how to do that in abundance! He even went out of his way and stayed longer than he needed to cut my dad's hair at the last minute. Everyone's hair stayed in all day and night which was amazing considering all jumping around we done all night on the dance floor!lol I can't put into words how grateful I am for everything David done for me on the lead up to my wedding and on the day itself and it's something I'll never forget. Based on my own personal experience I would have no questions about recommending David or his salon to anyone. I have been asked on several occasions for David's number because they've seen pictures of my hair and loved it - in my opinion that says it all! I'll try and upload a view pictures and you can see for yourself!

I hold a special place in my heart for this place because it's where I got my first professional colouring done. I felt very brave at the time - not that it's the kind of thing that deserves a medal! - but I was hankering for some blondie bits in my hair and finally got round to setting the scissors in motion. My hair is black and when I first visited it had faded pink/brown highlights in it. But the staff were really nice about the colour (despite the fact I was starting to look like a hedge in autumn), and gave me highlighting advice. I was really happy with the result, and felt like the girl who dyed it was quite brave since most hairdressers are reluctant to highlight dark hair. It stayed in good condition, though, and this place over the months helped me get blonder and blonder - till I got bored and moved on to something else. Eventually highlighting started to weigh heavily on my hair follicles and I returned to Claire Frances before my graduation to get back in blaaaack (as the song goes). Once again I got really good service, friendly advice and an awesome hair cut. My hair was returned to its former, glossy past and the girl gave me a deep condition at a very reasonable price to help maintain a healthy look. I'll definitely be back in the near future since staff are always consistent, complimentary, give good advice and are really good at colouring. They are always very accomodating when they're busy and you run in for a last minute snip (which I do, often). They also offer student discount and are open late mid week which is handy if you don't get out of work till five. Prices very - it can be up to £100 pounds for a cut and colour, but it's worth it (no pun or L'oreal reference intended). Advice is free and a cut and blow dry ranges in at about £30 for females - average price for the calibre this salon stands in. It has warm surroundings, chilled out atmosphere and there's always several stylists on hand to help you out. They go out of their way to relax you and most importantly they rescue hair when you're responsible for ruining it, so I always leave a very happy customer! Why spend time waiting weeks for an appointment in town when this place is five minutes away (and arguably better)?

It's near on 10 years that I've been a regular here, having Claire cut my hair everytime. On being recommended here, I cannot bear the thought of another person putting their scissors near me! Claire is a brilliant hairdresser and always tells you what will work, not necessarily what you would like if it isn't going to suit you or your hair can't do it. Staff are always friendly and if you don't fancy a tea or coffee, you can always have a wee glass of wine or a beer! Relaxed atmosphere and competitively priced, you won't be disappointed on coming here. Just be prepared to become a regular and hear me say 'told you so' :-) You Gotta Get Snipped Here! :-D
