It's a cold morning here in Norfolk after a weekend of warm weather and sunshine. The checki in process was fast, efficient, and very pleasant. It was only a few minutes until I was called back to the lab, then the doctor's office. The flow from section to section is great. The best times for appointments are early Monday mornings. Any appointment in the morning is better after 8 and before 1130 because of the traffic flow on Virginia Beach Blvd. Everyone in this organization is top-notch. I love the positive energy that I feel when I am here. Thank you to PA Kathryn Sharp! Dr. Sharpe has a wonderful personality, and her thorough exam session makes me feel so comfortable. This organization cares about their patients.

This location is so much more spacious then Lake Wright. Let's see what the wait is like..ughhh

Well, I've been a patient here since late 2017. VOA is very through. Thru my treatment for breast cancer, I really got to know my team. Dr. Danso, Tina, Tracy, and Melody. Most of all, they got to know me. Dr. Danso saw me prior to my chemo treatments and took the time to escorted me to the treatment area. Making sure there was a chair for me. He and Tina were really compassion during my journey. Mel his Med assistant always smiling and caring. Everyone was always respectful and genuinely cared. I recommend VOA-Dr Danso if anyone asks about my journey. The office is super busy, I get circumstances occur during visits. I try and remember that to properly care for patients of any type, situation, or circumstances, everyone wants to feel that their time was well spent. Ask questions and get answers, not hurried along. Best wishes to anyone reading this. Keep faithful and no matter what TRUST GOD.

I bring my grandmother here to see Dr. Cross. He is ok as a doctor, but the process to even get to the point of seeing him is lonnnnnnng and sllooooowwwww. She is always scheduled for bloodwork first and then the office visit 15 mins afterwards. Why is it ALWAYS over an hr from the time we get there that she even sees him?? I get it...there are A LOT of ill patients in the waiting area...everyone needs to be seen. BUT if it takes this long, maybe they should change the way they are scheduling patients to come in. It feels like an assembly line when u check in until you leave. Kind of feels like you are just a number & less like a patient that they truly care about. Unfortunately, I don't have a choice in where she goes. If I did, I probably wouldn't bring her here.

So far so good. I came here looking for a specialist for Gynecology because I have the BRCA 2 mutation which makes my chances of cancer higher than the average population (mostly breast and ovarian) so I'm looking for a specialist for advanced screening. Another BRCA friend had been for an initial consult with Dr. Squatrito at this office and liked him so I decided to see if he could be a good fit for me. I was able to make an appointment about a month out to see him (I had to have a referral from my primary care physician) and saw him earlier this week. We first met in his office for a consultation to talk about my medical history, family history of cancer, and go over any conditions or concerns. We probably spent a good 15-20 minutes in his office talking about my options, my care plan, treatment for the near future, etc. He answered all my questions and at no time seemed hurried or rushed. He was at ease and sitting comfortably in his chair. Then we did an exam and he suggested that for me, since I want to do advanced screening for a while, we do a transvaginal ultrasound and exam every six months starting with an ultrasound now. Fine by me because, as my insurance won't pay anything until I meet my deductible of $1500, and I already do advanced screening like this for my breasts with another oncology specialist, I have accepted I will meet my deductible for the rest of my life, so I agreed. I had already met my entire deductible for 2014 so I asked if we could get me in for the ultrasound before the end of the year (which was either the same day or the following day) before my plan reset and they were very nice and accommodating and managed to get me in the following morning at 9am. Everyone here was very nice (all the way to the receptionist) and I did not wait long for my scheduled appointment. Perhaps 10 minutes or so. The location was easy to find off USAA drive in the medical/business park area of Northamption Rd. The building has a bunch of other medical offices (all mostly related to oncology) and has plenty of parking and is relatively new and updated. Dr. Squatrito's staff were all friendly, Pam, his nurse, was a very nice lady who seemed very willing to help anywhere she could and she was very pleasant. She is the one who made sure I could get in the following day at 9am to utilize my met deductible for 2014 as much as possible to cover my expenses. Dr. Squatrito's personal office had various awards for his being chosen as People's Choice and Dr. of the Year and such - it was very reassuring. He has a personable and friendly bedside manner and he made me feel at ease. I hope that I have finally found someone who will be able to provide me the advanced screening I have been looking for to ease my mind while I navigate my new increased medical needs. If you are looking for an advanced screening office, or oncological care - I'd recommend this office.

There were a large number of First Atlantic Restoration vans parked in close proximity to the entrance. Allowed to go through security screening I was surprised to be turned away and sent to Brock Cancer Center, Turning into Brock Center from Kempsville Road I discovered a convenient side entrance with much closer parking than entering through the beautiful front lobby. The side entrance opened to the hall that has the entrance to Outpatient Check in, which included Bloodwork, Imaging & the Breast Center. There I learned that the problems at Leigh were caused by water pipe breaks. Many of the Leigh employees had been sent to Brock to handle the patients being sent there. I've been a fan of the Brock Imaging Center for some time. Since fewer people realize there's an Imaging Center there, appointments are more readily available. I've had MRI's, Catscans and Bone Density Scans done at Brock. The equipment is state of the art and the employees are friendly. I'll continue to have my Imaging done at Brock with an added benefit of having discovered the more convenient Kempsville side entrance.

He was seen in the Emergency Department, the Pediatric ICU, and in the in-patient Neuroscience unit, along with being seen by doctors in Endocrinology. Their professionalism and dedication made this scary experience much easier to deal with and I was confident that my son was receiving the best care possible. She was exceptional, as was Ryan, the registered nurse who cared for my son in the post-operative unit. About a week before surgery, I was informed that only one parent would be allowed to stay overnight. After surgery, we were transferred to 7C - POD A, where Mikayla was our registered nurse during the day shift (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) on Wednesday and Thursday. I was told my son would need to stay overnight so the medical team could monitor his fluid intake and ensure he was able to take his medications. When we arrived in Room 718A, I noticed there was another patient area on the opposite side of a curtain. I asked Mikayla if another family could be assigned to the room, and she confirmed that they could. Since there was only one bathroom, it would also have to be shared. I immediately had concerns about this arrangement. There was very little privacy, and I did not feel comfortable or safe not knowing who might be staying on the other side of the curtain. Sharing a bathroom with another family also raised concerns about sanitation. After we settled into the room, Mikayla brought in IV Tylenol and explained that the physician had ordered Motrin to be given orally, which made sense because they wanted to monitor my son's ability to swallow. However, I mentioned that Ryan and Dr. Baldassari had both informed me that my son would also receive a steroid to help reduce swelling in his throat. Mikayla was unaware of this medication at first, but after I explained what I had been told, the steroid was eventually administered through his IV. At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, another family was admitted to the other side of our room. It appeared to be a husband, wife, and their child. My concern is this: if I was told only one parent could stay overnight, why was it acceptable for two parents to stay with another patient in the same room? In addition, I could clearly hear conversations regarding that child's medical care and upcoming procedure. This was a significant violation of patient privacy. Sharing a room separated only by a curtain, along with sharing a bathroom, did not seem appropriate from either a privacy or sanitation standpoint. Unfortunately, my interactions with Mikayla became increasingly uncomfortable. I felt that she became visibly frustrated with me. She rolled her eyes, and her tone of voice changed after I expressed that I did not want to stay another night with my three-year-old son. I understood the medical team's concerns because my son was reluctant to take his Tylenol and Motrin by mouth and had not met the required fluid intake. He drank approximately 190 mL instead of the required 300 mL for discharge. However, I explained that he is only three years old, had just undergone major surgery, and was not in a familiar environment. I assured her that he would likely drink more and take his medication once he returned home. Later that morning, after I asked when the doctor would be coming by, Mikayla stated that the physician had already seen me. I explained that a doctor briefly came into the room around 6:00 a.m., which startled me because I was asleep, and I was not under the impression that another overnight stay would be necessary. I politely requested to speak with the physician again. Mikayla appeared irritated and responded that she would send the doctor a message herself. After breakfast, Mikayla returned and informed me that she was preparing my son's discharge paperwork so we could "skedaddle." I found that comment to be unprofessional and inappropriate when speaking to a patient's family. While reviewing the discharge instructions, she repeatedly asked me, "Make sense?" I felt that her communication was condescending rather than respectful. I already had Tylenol and Motrin at home, but Dr. Baldassari had informed me that a prescription for Dexamethasone would also be sent to our pharmacy. I asked Mikayla whether that prescription had been sent. She stated that she was unsure and would contact the physician. After we packed our belongings, she returned and asked which pharmacy we used instead of confirming that the prescription had already been sent. I explained that we live in North Carolina and asked that it be sent to our local CVS pharmacy. I never received a notification from the pharmacy that day. The following morning, July 3, 2026, I contacted the hospital and spoke with the charge nurse on the morning regarding the prescription for Dexamethasone. The charge nurse searched the system and told me the prescription was sent to CHKD outpatient pharmacy located downstairs in the hospital. I informed her I told Mikayla before I left yesterday and I watched her right the pharmacy down to send the order to due me living in North Carolina. The charge nurse explained it wasn't Mikayla's fault.
