However, I was travelling imminently and didn't have time to go to my usual place in Central London. I didn't want new glasses as I have some vintage frames which are actually as old as St Georges walk, but I love them dearly and wanted to take them on my long trip. However, what was an even bigger headache, was trying to get them glazed at the usual suspects; Boots and Specsavers and a couple of other small high street chains who refused to even try glazing my frames even though I fully understood the risk of damage and was prepared to accept that fate. Where I began to glaze over at the 'computer says no' responses from staff at chain framers; I suddenly remembered T. Young Opticians at The Croydon Eye Centre and not only did they have my records from almost 20 years ago when I used to live in the area, they remembered me, what work I did and even asked after my mum and dad. So very sweet. It's that personal touch that keeps businesses like this going when it seems that all around, everything is going to pot. Croydon is in Transition but I certainly hope this little business keeps going despite the changes. It was also cheaper to get my glasses glazed here than the chains, so I got all of my old glasses glazed by them (The SHORT-SIGHTEDNESS of the high street stores with their silly T&C's meant they lost out on a lot business from me) and they have a beautiful selection of vintage frames at a fraction of the cost of what you'd pay in a boutique in town. There might not be many left as I've bought lots of them, but do go and have a LOOK. Of course, if you're eyeing up the latest modern super lux, high-end frames, then they're what you'd expect to pay: the likes of Zeiss, Persol, Silhouette, Ray Ban and Dior, etc etc. They're a very small family business, so even if you want to go and try on, I'd recommend booking a short session with them, (020 8686 0676). Reason being; the front door's locked and there's an alarm system on the front door (It's Croydon!!!) and if they're in the back eye testing, you may not think they're open. So you just have to ring the bell. Go and check them out, they're a real EYE OPENER.

Well i came to this place as its close to morissons where i do my shopping they were quick to take…read moremy order and suggest a whole load of other stuff to buy which i sed no to.i bought 2 pairs of glasses and paid in full. When i went to collect my glasses i found they had got the frame colours wrong which i informed them of, i was informed by the receptionist who sed "you know what u think u saw" then called out the man. Who politly told me i was colour blind and i should have noted the model number of the frame down as his staff dont make a mistake. Then he showed me catalogues to prove he didnt make a mistake but admitted his stock was old and his catalogues were new as the other pair was discontinued. I was asked to come bak nxt week or 2 unfortunetly i cant so i took what i got and left VERY DISAPPOINTING...SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPECSAVERS..glad i didnt get the family glasses or sunglasses made here I would AVOID but dont say i didnt warn u

Well, after years of thinking if you go to Specsavers you are going to get a naff optician and even…read moreworse glasses, I have to hold my hands up and state that I couldn't be possibly more wrong! I went there for an eye test, which I actually got for free as they offered a free eye test voucher online. (The eye test was very thorough and actually more in depth than the opticians up the road that charged me £47.50!!!!) When I got my prescription, there was no pressure at all to get glasses, I was offered assistance should I need it and left be, so I didn't feel like everyone was looking at me expecting me to make a purchase - which was handy as I was on my lunch break. I returned to get some geggs and it was a painless experience. I picked the frame that I wanted and someone then dealt with the lenses and all that jazz. They pro-actively pointed out that I was actually entitled to a second pair completely free, BARGAIN. So, I ended up with a Karen Milen pair and some funky brand for £125 all in. The dealt with everything as quick as a flash and then booked me in to collect my glasses. Really was an easy transaction from start to finish and I stand corrected, this high street brand is definitely not at the bottom of the barrel and is indeed excelling in customer service and value for money.

Poor customer service. My husband had to get glasses because they flew away while getting on the…read moretube, and as an emergency, we found this place and are familiar with it due to being from NYC, but it's the worst customer service. There were 4 employees, and a middle aged blonde lady with glasses was very frazzled, saying to wait, then taking other customers. She had a very rude tone, after telling us that they only do eye exams on fridays, she referred us to Vision Express. And, that's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars because the employee at Vision express was very kind and helpful. You should know if a customer is asking for an emergency eye exam, it's probably because they can't see where they're going. You're in a vulnerable state, and should be more understanding!

We knew Moscot from NYC, so we made a beeline to the London location. Kris couldn't have been more lovely and helpful. He was so patient while both husband and I tried on a million pairs (two of which we bought when we got home to NYC). AND he had temples custom made to match the broken glasses, and we had them back in two days for a reasonable price. AND he gave us great advice on cool places to visit in London. Highly recommend!
