Mick was our driver and he was not only on time, he was 15 minutes early. When the hotel front desk staff wasn't helpful in contacting us to let us know he was there, Mick was patient and persistent and we connected, almost by chance in the lobby as our luggage was being brought down. The luggage was loaded into the trunk of Mick's new Hyundai, an attractive model not found in the US as far as I know. He skillfully and courteously drove us out of London, though traffic and right up to the terminal where the ship was docked. He made excellent time and good conversation as well. The cost was about £125, which seems reasonable for that distance and for the convenience of door-to-door transportation. We would use Smith's again. Alan's only complaint was that the car wasn't a bit larger, because he felt cramped in the back seat.

I went to their web page and filled out the electronic form. Within 30 minutes, I had a quote of 92 pounds- roughly $150.00 each way (300.00 round trip) for all three people and all our luggage. The cruise line on the other hand offered a transfer via bus, with restrictions on the amount and weight of our luggage for 100.00 USD per person each way ($600.00). I booked via email and they answered my emails within minutes. I had a last minute change in pickup location (See my review of the Heathrow Sheraton) and emailed Smith's. It wasn't a problem.... They replied in minutes. They showed up in a almost brand new mini van and were on time. The drivers were polite and dressed professionally. Upon pickup, I again had a last minute change of pickup times.... Easily done via email. I would highly recommend Smith's for transportation needs in and out of Heathrow

My dog ate something that was poisonous to her, (currents, sultanas etc) she snaffled some Christmas cake! This could have killed her. It was imperative to get her to the emergency vet as soon as possible to get it out of her stomach, time was critical. I only had about thirty minutes left to get her from Hedge End to the vets in southampton. It was the middle of the night, (28th Dec), it would take me best part of an hour to walk down there, too late to save my dog. I called Hedge End taxis, explaining my predicament. The lady on the phone was courteous, and more important to me at the time, efficient. I had a cab arrive in minutes. Unlike many taxis I have grown dis-satisfied with in this area, the driver also was courteous, knew his job, exactly how to get there, comunicated exceptionally well, and got me to the vet in double quick time. I made it to the vets in time for them to induce vomiting with injection, and thankfully the offending poison was expelled. Thanks to the old fashioned EXCELLENT service I encountered, I still have my beautifull boxer dog alive and well. I can not put a price to this. Having experienced diabolical service from many Southampton taxi services in the past, I am compelled to write this review. Had I called one of them, I have no doubt I would not have been able to save her. Thank you Hedge End taxis, from the bottom of my heart.

I explained this to the lovely driver over the phone, as my husband was running slightly late and he was absolutely brilliant, he didn't mind waiting and then didn't even charge my husband for the journey! Honestly bowled over by his amazing generosity, thank you so very much! Highly recommend!

I said I don't like the way you are talking to us n I'll try find the change.. he shouted there's a bloody shortcut over there .. by this point I was very upset .. I have a chronic disability .. I said I can't walk distance at all.. he said well I didn't know that but the shortcut is over there .. I said I'm reporting this it's unbelievable your attitude.. he said yeah but can't believe you took a taxi n don't have £3.50 there's a bloody shortcut.., beyond discramantory of any disability.. n the hotel had their sign up I'll be suggesting they don't.. to be honest I've never been so upset it was completely abusive

I can't explain why we stayed so loyal and now - in fact for a long time - there's nothing at all Irish about Irish Ferries, it just happens to be a company that operates to and from Ireland staffed by agency labour recruited as low paid as possible from Central Europe, while the bloke who owns it who I think is Irish is well on the way to being a billionaire. He'll not miss our trade. We travelled with IF in May for the last time, the food was lousy and way overpriced, the coffee was foul and the ship was tatty; in fact it had nowt going for it. Our loyalty is gone. We are gone. Stena and Brittany now. The food was pretty good on Brittany Ferries to/from Spain, the French staff were welcoming, efficient, darn friendly and they give guests good deals.
