The ladies at the OVI provided some really great suggestions, especially as the weather was not up to par for outside events. I was given pamphlets of things to see and do as well as suggestions to eat. Some of the places I knew about but there were places, like the Jocelyn Castle, that I wasn't aware of and even while at dinner with locals from her job, they were not aware of. I highly recommend that if you are visiting, that you stop in and get some information from the locals that may take you places that you hadn't planned to go, but glad you went.

The Visitor Information Center is in the Old Market, and while you are here (maybe to spend time in our fantastic newly-renovated city park!) you can drop in to this volunteer-staffed office and look through the plentiful and well-organized pamphlets, and also talk with people who are familiar with the things our city has to offer!

When we went inside, the nice guy told us we could either go walk the big bridge outside in the back which goes over the Missouri River or to watch the 25 minute Lewis & Clark adventures video. We chose to walk the bridge which was really cool. When getting to the middle of the bridge, you could put one foot on the state of Nebraska and the other foot on the Iowa side! It also was a beautiful view in and direction you looked from here. After we walked back into the museum and watched the 25 min film. It was a good short film and very informative. Was glad we watched it to see some of our US History. There was just a few items to look at inside. Plain and simple museum! Restroom was nice and clean. Nice people work here, security was really nice too. Must check out if you are ever in the Omaha area near Omaha Airport!

They have also the unigrids (brochures) that you can find in each of the National Parks. The gift shop has nice items like badges, magnets, shirts, caps, books, national parks passports, animal/insect figures, stuffed toys, pens, etc. The rangers were very nice and answered questions well. They can allow you to see the 25-minute video about the Lewis and Clark expedition which was very informative. You can access the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge at the back from here where you can find the Nebraska/Iowa state line.

Winter Quarters is a terrific 30-75 minute visit with a 16 min video, visitors center, and the cemetery. And it's free. The kids love pushing the handcart and the log cabin and the covered wagon. The museum tells the story of Winter Quarters and also about the 90,000 pioneers traveling the 1300 miles from Nauvoo to Salt Lake from 1846-1890. A really cool interactive map shows all the different companies coming by wagon, handcart, train, and over the oceans by steamship and sailing ship- so you can look for the company your ancestor traveled in. You can find who is buried in the cemetery, maybe it's your great grandmother! This is a great place to learn about the pioneers heritage. The guides are so pleasant and helpful.

This area boasts an urban beach, some really nice and fun swings and chairs, and what I would consider to be one of the best playgrounds I've taken my kids to. It feels safe, it's clean, and it's filled with families enjoying these free amenities to the city. My kids loved it and I left really impressed. Next time we are in Omaha with the kids this will be a must stop for us!

A little under three miles and brings you to the top of a ridge for panoramic views, deep forestry and ends with an awesome "chute" trail. The trails were marked clearly and maintained. I felt very safe and had service the whole time. It's also dog friendly. Can't wait to return for more adventures.

There's a really cute train area outside for the kiddos and plenty of photo ops!
