As I was walking over to the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge, I was pleasantly surprised to see a national historical park visitor center. I was told I walked part of the historic trail if I walked on the bridge. There is a small gift shop and informational displays. As a bonus, there was a free sticker with an animal's tribal Native American name. The park rangers were generous enough to give me a variety of them. Thank you!

This visitor center has a lot of info, pamphlets and maps, about the Lewis and Clark Trail. There's a 25 minute video which they can show on request. I haven't watched it (short attention span). There's not much of a museum here, but there are historical items and artifacts, interesting to look at and learn about. Also some things kids can touch, always good. There is a small but very well-stocked gift shop, including a large display of Native American books. Lots of National Parks/Natural Resources/History/Birding, books and merchandise as well. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. Sometimes I see the staff in the park area with interactive/educational activities. You can sign your kids up in the Junior Rangers program here. I would probably not go out of my way to make a specific visit here, but if you are walking along the riverfront and the bridge, it is not out of the way at all, and is worth checking out.

Weather was nice so wanted to take a little drive and get some Fresh air. Lewis and Clark Visitors center is a wonderful little spot with lots of local history and artifacts on Nebraska and of course details on the full Lewis and Clark expedition. Perfect spot to get the kids out of the house for a few hours. Nice wooded short hiking trails that overlook the Missouri River, they have an earth lodge to checkout and also currently building a fort replica. If you are into history and nature you will definitely enjoy this place.

This is a free museum with a quick video of Lewis & Clark expedition down the Missouri in search of the Pacific. We popped in here on our walk from the CHI center to the pedestrian bridge and thought it was a cute free history museum worth 15 mins stop. The young staff here were welcoming and friendly

The ladies at the OVI provided some really great suggestions, especially as the weather was not up to par for outside events. I was given pamphlets of things to see and do as well as suggestions to eat. Some of the places I knew about but there were places, like the Jocelyn Castle, that I wasn't aware of and even while at dinner with locals from her job, they were not aware of. I highly recommend that if you are visiting, that you stop in and get some information from the locals that may take you places that you hadn't planned to go, but glad you went.

It's great to learn about and go to all these places! And sometimes we forget that OUR city has a lot of great places as well. Even ones that we don't know about, or ones that have changed since we were kids. I'm talking about OMAHA. The Visitor Information Center is in the Old Market, and while you are here (maybe to spend time in our fantastic newly-renovated city park!) you can drop in to this volunteer-staffed office and look through the plentiful and well-organized pamphlets, and also talk with people who are familiar with the things our city has to offer!

Winter Quarters is a terrific 30-75 minute visit with a 16 min video, visitors center, and the cemetery. And it's free. The kids love pushing the handcart and the log cabin and the covered wagon. The museum tells the story of Winter Quarters and also about the 90,000 pioneers traveling the 1300 miles from Nauvoo to Salt Lake from 1846-1890. A really cool interactive map shows all the different companies coming by wagon, handcart, train, and over the oceans by steamship and sailing ship- so you can look for the company your ancestor traveled in. You can find who is buried in the cemetery, maybe it's your great grandmother! This is a great place to learn about the pioneers heritage. The guides are so pleasant and helpful.
