The staff inside the visiting check in area are much nicer than they used to be. They switched out employees and it is definitely appreciated. Times are already uncomfortable enough when having to visit a loved one in jail, the last thing the community/visitors need is a rude information assistant treating us like we're a problem.. It's good to be treated with respect and like a normal person by the women that are upfront now. This change makes the process a lot less intimidating and more comfortable. You are the first face a person sees when our loved ones go to jail, and the first voice we hear when we call.. The first impressions will make or break you and dictate how the entire interaction falls into place. I'm sure the sheriff's dept doesnt need anymore negativity coming from the community. Obviously I'm not here for good reasons. I came to bail my sister out and there was no one at the lobby desk for at least a half hour to help me. We were able to post bail pit not pick her up until the "8 hour mark" because of the DUI. Would've been nice to know before I commuted, Ended up sleeping in my car for 3 hours. Just seemed like no one cared about their job . For being a law enforcement facility, they were very unprofessional. Horrible actually. Regardless of why I was there, I'm still a person and deserve respect like any other place. read more

1 star. $4k for just a one night stay. Food is trash. It's literally bologna and cheese and not even the good quality bolgna and cheese. Beds are hard. Rooms are definitely not cleaned when a new tenant goes in. Poop was caked in the toilet bowl when I arrived. Towels are super tiny and had to use it as a pillow because pillows aren't provided. Graffiti EVERYWHERE. Loud neighbor keptbyellin all night and flooding his room. Tooth brushes are the length of a child's pinky. Rooms are shared. All in all not worth the cost. even if you only aspire to writing YELP reviews (or stories about rainbows and unicorns), the VISTA DETENTION FACILITY is a must-see local attraction with a colorful (albeit cliche) cast of film-noir characters. the automated phone system is dysfunctional (was given the number on the first of five or six visits that afternoon and evening) so you gotta show up in person. there's the humorless staff entrenched behind bullet-proof windows. the bail bondsman in his shiny silver suit, stiffly starched black shirt, black-on-black string tie and narrow, pointy, black leather, silver-tipped shoes. he leaves a pungent cloud of body wash, a sickly smell of dead flowers and over-ripe fruit, in his wake. clutching three sets of paperwork in his fist, a knowing look passes between him and the staff in their bunker. this is not their first rodeo. there's a disappointingly scruffy pimp (no oversized fedora or feathered boa) picking up his girls. i'm reminded of the old joke about what do you call a fat hooker in OCEANSIDE? a heavy MARINE layer ... there's a women with a freshly busted nose stuffed with toilet paper twists already soaked with blood, one, raccoon eye swollen shut and black-mascara streaks running down her puffy cheeks. she's come to pick up a boyfriend who argues with his fists. she's changed her mind about pressing charges. "i know he'll change, he loves me," i hear her reassuring the guy behind the glass. he struggles to appear sympathetic but doesn't look convinced. there's a steady trickled of bone-weary moms picking up drug addled kids. i saw one boy fish a bong from under his mom's passenger seat as soon as he climbed in her car. grabbing his trusty BIC, he disappeared in a cloud of sticky, sweet smoke even before they got out of the parking lot. i could barely make out his mother, desperately clutching the cross hanging around her neck, her limps silently mouthing a prayer. i scratch my head, not sure why she bothered making the drive. and why was i there soaking up local color ?? a friend of mine got arrested for car-jacking when he tried to retrieve a U-HAUL that a meth-head rented, filled with his earthly belongings and turned into his tweeker RV. he was eight-months into a two-day rental. they crossed paths at the VISTA courthouse. the tweeker, standup guy that he is, was there because he got busted again for possession and public intoxication. his rap sheet is as thick as a five-borough phone book. my friend was there filing the paperwork to evict a tenant who hasn't paid his rent since before CHRISTMAS. funny how we live in a world where bad guys have rights but the rest of us, starting with landlords, not so much ... because my friend, in his former life before he was "rehabilitated," was PUBLIC ENEMY #1 (back in the day local newspapers characterized him as the AL CAPONE of NORTH COUNTY), he blew up police computers when they ran a background check. even though his active history was thirty years ago (and he did his time) the FBI, the DEA, the city, county and state police, the CIA, the NSA, HOMELAND SECURITY, the VATICAN and ORVILLE REDDENBACKER all wanted to know if he was "back in the game." not willing to pay the bail bondsman's VIG, he called and asked me to bring a cashiers check. it took nearly seven hours from the time i dropped off the money till he got "processed." he had a court appearance the following week. i picked him up at the airport (even though he lives locally) because he was in COLORADO for his teenage daughter's soccer tournament. we showed up promptly at the courthouse. his case was not on the docket posted outside the court room and it took five hours to find out the DA dropped the car-jacking charges -- hey, thanks for the heads-up. six weeks, a couple more visits and dozens of phone calls later, we're still waiting to get the money back from the county. what a clusterbang that's been. if this review was about that part of the process, they would not be getting four stars. read more

Beautiful facility! So modern and cool. I was arrested by vista police for drunk in public and resisting arrest and ended up having an amazing evening. The police cruiser was incredible, very roomy and very new! (At least a 2017) The cells had modern plexi glass separation and I got to essentially have a slumber party with a few guys, some of whom have become life long friends. Modern stainless steel toilets. Only downside here is there's only one so things got a bit messy with all 8 of us. Also, free cookies! I gave mine to somebody else but they looked delicious and possibly home made. Anyways, I've recommended the facility and staff to friends and family. Will defiantly be arrested here in the future! read more

The officers were slow and rude, but if you joke around and make them laugh they're a little nicer. The inmates were nice. They had nice colors in the holding cells although they were only cleaned once within the 12 hours we were there. When we came in the holding cell was disgusting with trash and sandwiches all over the place. The tv sucked, the officer said she'd look for the remote but she made no effort. Overall not the worst experience the movies make it seem worst then it is. Don't go but if you do there is no need to cry it's pretty straightforward and there will always be someone crazier then you read more

I checked in to the vista resort last Friday for my weekend jail time. It took forever to get in there due to the fact that it was a friday night and the place was packed, mostly drunks and tweekers. It's hit and miss with the professionalism of the deputys. Some want to get you through the process as quickly as possible and some have a real chip on their shoulder and forget to realize that i walked in there to turn myself in and that im not deaf or hiding anything in my ass. Once I got to my cell all there is to do is sleep or do pushups. I opted for the sleep. Since I was a weekender, I had the people that were there for a longer stay, ask me If I brought anything in and if I would next week. That was pretty much the only annoying thing. As long as you have a positive attitude and remember you're the one that put yourself in there I'm pretty sure you will get through it no problem. read more

What a wonderful facility in the heart of Vista! Where else can we send out drug addicted/thieving adult child and have him housed and fed for free! 3 meals a day, plenty of company for when he uses the toilet and showers so he never gets lonely. XBox with the latest games, big screen TV's to watch the latest new release movies. This place is so nice he schedules is "vacations" every 6 months or so because he loves it so much! Thank you Vista detention faculty for giving the cities criminals a much better life then they would leave if they actually worked for a living. If i could give this place zero stars i would. The staff was extremely rude from the moment i arrived. On top of that, it took over four hours for them to show me to my bedroom. Luckily, one of the hosts did my paperwork for me, but he treated me like i was a second class citizen the entire time. When i finally got to my room (they made me carry my own mattress and luggage by the way) i noticed that they forgot to leave me a pillow. I asked for one several times, and they didn't even seem to care. They even threatened me. When they served the meals, they didn't even give us menus. The food was very bland. Apparently their chef takes little pride in his work. Don't even get me started on the crowd this place attracts. The other patrons were extremely hostile. I won't go into what the did to me, but it was very demeaning and completely uncalled for. Overall, my stay here was very unpleasant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. One positive aspect was that the gift shop was very affordable, but that hardly makes up for all of the other failures. read more

This place SUCKS. First you have to sit in a holding cell for hours, then they strip search you and force you to wear used tighty whity underwear. The rooms are cold and miserable. They leave the lights on all night, you don't get a pillow, the beds are hard and uncomfortable, and all the idiots in there are loud all night so you can't sleep. Also, you better not be too shy because you have to use the bathroom and shower with everyone else in the wide open. The food is THE WORST and they serve breakfast at 4am. Make sure you find someone (usually your own race) to fill you in on the rules and etiquette. Be prepared for the most boring, uncomfortable, and miserable exprience of your life. read more
