Absolute must-try if you are in or around the area - amazing food with an even better aerial view of the New River and surrounding mountains! Quick note as of July 2021: the entire Lodge is under renovation besides the restaurant, which is still open but quite empty. First off - the view is breathtaking both inside and outside the restaurant entrance. Be sure to get some pictures and take in the view! The setting is pretty intimate (we were 1 of only 2 parties eating on a Saturday night), and our waitress Emma was sweet and professional. Each entree comes with a salad, and we were offered complimentary dinner rolls (so delicious) and crackers to share. Portions are very generous and the best quality I've had in a while. If you're not sure what to order, the Pulled Pork entree was delicious. Overall fantastic experience - even if you don't dine here, make a quick stop to check out the viewpoint! read more

Our 1st experience with food in West Virginia was here at the "Overlook at the New River Gorge" at the Hawk's Nest Lodge. We had been traveling all day and were pleasantly surprised by our experience! Great menu selections from appetizers, sandwiches dinners and deserts. We started with bone-in garlic Parmesan wings. They were crispy on the outside and hot, tender and juicy on the inside! For dinner we enjoyed the Salmon pan-seared with roll, slaw and baked potato. The delicious Salmon was a 6 oz portion that was glazed in a sweet sauce. The service was fast and friendly and the price was very affordable. The scenic view of the New River Gorge while we dined was incredible! We will definitely visit again!!! read more

Spent a night at the lodge that was recently renovated nicely done . Not much options in town this time of year so I had dinner at the restaurant. Service was was good and the meal nicely prepared fresh and hot. I had the Rachel Sandwich which was very good. The views from the restaurant are amazing as the look out over Hawks Nest State park/New River Gorge. Based on this meal i would say give it a try as I enjoyed everything read more

We enjoyed lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Both lunch and dinner menus were offered. We ate off the lunch menu. We started with fried zucchini sticks which were good enough to be a standout at any restaurant. I had pinto beans and cornbread , yummy and filling. My husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich and asked for no ciabatta bread. When his plate came there was a huge serving of meatloaf. He thought he might have been served the dinner portion, but the waitress said that was would have been in the sandwich. We were very pleased with our food and the service. I wouldn't hesitate to go again if I were in the area. read more

The view at the window seats is fantastic but you should make a reservation for those. Service was friendly and courteous. Food was not anything special and we actually saw people walk out due to wrong orders. In my opinion the quality was consistent with a SYSCO food truck. Nothing special. There was a large party downstairs so maybe it was an off night and we weren't getting the normal stuff. My wife and I both were underwhelmed. read more

The restaurants name "The Outlook" does it justice with a spectacular view of the state park while enjoying a bite to eat. We sat and took in the scenery while watching many hawks fly by. The restaurant is apart of Hawks Nest Lodge but anyone is welcome to eat there. Was a great stop for lunch on our way up to the New River Gorge Bridge. read more

We spent a couple nights at the lodge and decided to have dinner at the restaurant conveniently located in the hotel. The service was very slow and unprofessional. I ordered an Italian dish (manicotti I think). It arrived with melted yellow cheese on top and still frozen in the middle. Once I got the attention of the server she quickly sent it back to the kitchen and microwaved it. It looked like it could have passed as a Mexican dish. My husband ordered a steak. We were playfully arguing over whose meal was worse... his steak was chewy and poorly cooked. The view was nice but everything else was abysmal. The waitress was either embarrassed or annoyed my entree was frozen. She didn't refill drinks or check on us until she dropped off the check. Hotel guest receive a free "continental breakfast" so we checked it out. It's hard to screw up breakfast right? Wrong. So wrong. The only beverages we had access to were an orange drink (not juice but orange in color) and bad coffee. Stale Bagels, cereal and some dry pastries cut into bite size shapes were spread out on a table covered in crumbs and a couple flies who weren't really motivated to fly away when swatted at. This restaurant is a huge disappointment and I wish we would have gone any where else. Our experience was so bad we vowed to never come Back even when passing through. read more

This restaurant had great service, great food and a great view 1000 ft above the New River. The food was cooked perfectly and I had no complaints. Would definitely recommend if you are staying in hawks nest lodge. read more

This restaurant, at Hawks Nest State Park, is a real gem! We were just lucky enough to be staying at the lodge, which made it quite convenient! We ate dinner here twice and both times were served by Aleeah, who was so friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed a lunch here, which offered a different menu. Each meal was delicious, portions generous, and prices reasonable. Service was prompt and the view of the canyon below was incredible! If not staying at the lodge, take a drive to enjoy the park's canyon views, and stay for lunch or dinner! read more
