She angrily snatched the money from my hand, slammed it onto the counter, picked it up again, then put it in the register. Then she slammed my change onto the counter. I was completely dumbfounded and embarrassed. Later, when I asked for eine Gabel und ein Messer bitte (a fork and knife), she pretended she didn't understand my German. I asked her in English for a knife and fork and she informed me in German that "we don't eat pizza with a fork and knife in Germany." Again, I was dumbfounded. I didn't tell her that I have an overbite and can't bite through my pizza so I need to use a knife and fork no matter which country I eat the pizza in. She told me my husband may have a knife and fork because he ordered a whole pizza, but I may not (...what difference does it make how much pizza you order--you still eat it one slice at a time?). So I said "okay, kein Problem." Then I secretly "borrowed" my husband's knife and fork so I could consume my pizza but she saw me and became extremely angry (again, what difference does it make who uses the cutlery, it's going back to the kitchen dirty anyway). As a visitor in Germany I try to be as culturally sensitive as possible but I have no idea how I offended this person so badly that she felt okay treating me so rudely. I left the restaurant completely confused and crestfallen. Btw the pizza was just okay.

We came in late (after the highly recommended night watchman tour) and very near closing time…read more Vito welcomed us himself and swiftly moved us in (a bit of initial hesitation by the greeter, but Vito stepped in!). Because it was really late, our options were pizza and salad. Based on this experience, we will come back to try pasta and we recommend the place. Vito is working hard on this place and making sure you get the right service and the right food delivered to you. The ambience is casual, we saw families, groups of friends and a couple on a date. It is a place for locals for sure. Plenty of options for cocktails, beer and wine. On to the food- my favorite was the ham and truffle pizza, dough was thin, perfect texture and delicious. The ham is shaved and it blends perfectly to let the truffle be the star of the pie without overtaking the whole thing. The spicy sausage pizza was also very tasty, and the salad was a very decent size to share one for 4 adults (you have to get veggies). Give Vito a shot, after all those wursts, you want to have some italian dishes to give your palate a nice treat. And say hi to Vito.

We probably wouldn't have given them our business the next day but our kids made the reservation, not knowing what happened, so we didn't change it. We had a reservation at 7 pm for 9 people & tried to come in 30 minutes early to just have a drink. They would not let us....even though we could see our empty table for 9 was ready. The food was really good but the service was very slow (took over 1 1/2 hours for our food). I think this place does just fine serving a smaller group of customers since the restaurant in general is pretty small.

Casually known as the Potato Restaurant, the potato is king here. The potato and garlic soup is a must have for the first course. Then save room. The main servings are LARGE. I highly recommend the Schweinshaxe, a German dish, which is a roasted ham hock or "pork knuckle". The ham hock is the end of the pig's leg, just above the ankle and below the meaty ham part. It was blue-collar and poor peoples' food so it is a cheap cut that is cooked for a long time. It is one of the 2 best I have ever had. They speak English and other languages in this casual place. If you go during tourist season it can be packed. If you are not used to German food, then you may want to steer away from the sauerkraut casseroles as the sauerkraut is delicious, but quite strong. This is not the type of place for a fast-food lover. Order a full meal, with beers, and you are here for at least one to two hours of non-stop eating and drinking and you will be so stuffed you will have to walk for an hour or if you are staying close by, a nap is definitely in order.
