For the longest time, I was extremely skeptical when it came to Chiropractors. I then thought they were only useful AFTER getting injured. I had put no faith into the notion that they could prevent or treat ailments other than back pain. A few years back, I was lethargic due to an under-active thyroid, a problem that runs heavily in my family. When I say "lethargic" I mean I was too weak to function in any capacity and I am quite an active guy. I started the meds which quickly made me feel normal again, but I didn't like the idea of being dependent on a drug. I searched for articles about alternative treatments. Chiropractic treatments came up. Initially I dismissed them all. Around this time, I went to a local festival where I noticed Dr. Christian Reilly had a both set up offering a free assessment. I was curious to see what sort of " hocus pocus" lines I'd be given so I made a point NOT to tell him what ailment I was suffering from. I wanted to see what he would find out on his own. I got face down on a bench and the doctor ran his finger down my spine. He hovered over an area between my should blades and gently poked it. "OUCH" I said, for to my surprise it hurt. He explained to me that it hurt because there is nerve damage there due to a subluxation (misalignment) in the spine. He explained to me further that this sublaxation in the spine will cause my body not to operate properly- that whatever organs were connected to that part of the spine would not operate properly. Wanting to hear him say "Thyroid Gland", I asked him "which organs were connected to that part of the spine". He told me to look at the diagram hanging in the booth so that I could see for myself. In looking at the diagram, I followed the line from the subluxation and guess where it lead to? That's right... MY THYROID GLAND! So now he had my attention to say the least. ONLY THEN did I tell him about my under active thyroid. I asked him if he could "cure me' of my thyroid dysfunction. His answer was quite honest. He said "NO"! However, he then proceeded to tell me that he can heal the sublaxation in my spine so that MY BODY would heal itself. Impressed with him thus far, I decided to give chiropractic treatments a chance. Gradually I started to cut down on my meds. After three months I stopped my meds altogether. I expected to feel lethargic again but to my pleasant surprise, I did not. Three months after that, I got my blood work done and further to my surprise (and the doc who prescribed the meds) my thyroid levels were back to NORMAL! So- the proof is in the pudding and the verdict is out on the effectiveness of seeing a chiropractor (at least for me, that is). I continue to get weekly treatments with Chiromark to maintain the health that I now have back, and as a preventive measure for other health issues. The more I find out about the chiropractic industry , the more I'm impressed . By the way, I have not had the need to take meds ever since!!! Once a major skeptic, given my experience- I am now a major BELIEVER! read more
