I'll add more in time. I'll say that I've been following Stacey and Chuck on VO Buzz Weekly since 2012. Like Mike B, had booked some work on P2Ps but was ready to do VO and VA full time. Contacted Chuck in summer'15 to get the ball rolling. He recommended I coach with one of two VO Coaches before my commercial demo- both great but went with the one I'd been in constant touch with for years. Did the homework with Marc, made the grade then set with Chuck for the session. Jay P. and Mike B. nailed it on the price for the service and the full service- it's worth the cost to those serious for a career in VO. Do it right the first time and only one time :) What's also awesome about Stacey and Chuck is that they set up a preproduction meeting to discuss the best approach and market for your brand. Chuck talks with you and researches for you to find the kind of product that's perfect for you. Then within the following weeks Stacey crafts custom copy to you. I overprepared and on 3 hrs sleep went in. Chuck allowed me to loosen up. He gave me direction needed to get the performance done. The result? It's the same as his brand: Chuck made me a Demo That Rocks! Another thing VO artists should know is that an awesome demo gets us noticed. But it does not Get one the work in and of itself. Knowing our branding doing our own research and developing our marketing and submitting to the right agencies for us will help a lot more. The level of success will be different for each of us and may take some time and a lot of persistence. Within a week of this kick butt demo I signed with an agency. Submitted to a bunch since and at this very moment another agency just responded and requested a call to discuss possible representation- to a submission from 1.5 months ago. Wanna be a PRO VO talent? Then you HAVE to GO where the PRO's GO! Chuck is beyond amazing. From the moment I stepped into his studio and shook his hand, I knew I was in the right place. I have to be honest. The review before mine pretty much sums it up. Chuck is at the top of his game. And he's been playing this game A WHILE! He's on the more expensive side yes, but it's money well spent. This is coming from a guy who HATES to spend money. I debated between demo producers, I met with a few, but when I met with Chuck.. game changer. I had a certain amount of money that I was willing to spend on a demo when I first contacted Chuck. His asking price was just too much for me at the time and I ALMOST went in a different direction. Here is what he said. "I would save up for a kick-a&# demo rather then settling for a mediocre one. You want people to listen to your demos and be blown away. Remember, your demos are the single most important tool you'll ever have to market yourself as a voice actor - this is not the place where you want to cut corners. Do it right the first time and you'll save yourself a bunch of money, time and frustration in the end." Well, that is just what I did. Saved up some extra money and went for it. Demo was completed at the end of December, it took me to SBV in January, huge booking in March. Can't recommend the man enough. Also, he won't make you a demo if he doesn't feel you are ready. Just got back from my session with Chuck at Demos that Rock. I want, nay, NEED to rave about the fantastic experience thus far. I've been away from the business for about 15 years, so was feeling a touch rusty but more than anxious to jump back in. Chuck was incredibly patient and encouraging. He and I met via Skype for a detailed discussion where he pegged my age range, style and then we worked together to come up with commercial spots relevant both to my vocal qualities and today's advertising market. In an effort to get to know me, Chuck even went so far as to spend a good deal of time directing questions to my wife, from whom he probably got better answers than from me. A few days later I had custom copy, written for me, based on the spots that we'd decided on... there were notes on the style/tone that each spot was to take. Again, I am/was a trained professional, but more than a decade out of practice... Chuck sent over a list of coaches that he knew and trusted, suggesting that it might be a good idea to work with one for at least an hour or two to help exercise my dormant chops. So, fast forward: I popped awake at 3am this morning, after only a few hours asleep, and couldn't lull myself back to bed. Then, a three hour drive from San Diego to LA, and I'm dragging, not at all feeling my best, crap in the back of my throat, and not feeling great about what's going to come out of the session. We arrive (my wife and I) to Chuck's beautiful studio and, after a few minutes of discussion, where I tell Chuck what I'm feeling good about versus the areas where I'm feeling less confident, he herds me into the booth. He, kindly, lets me choose the first spot, and I pick the one that I think I can nail in one take. (I THINK that now is a good time for an interjection. Chuck Duran's greatest talent lies not in his ability to quickly and correctly ascertain the skill set of the talent he's working with (which he does), or in his production skills (which are obvious and many), but in his ability to DIRECT vocal talent.) Let me say, one take wasn't correct. That first track was easily the most difficult of the ones that we did, and Chuck's take on the spot, during direction, was a little different than what I'd imagined, but we started with my read and then worked from there. He's editing on the fly, and before we moved onto the second spot he had a working version of the first. While it wasn't the read that I'd heard going in, it was spot-on the right read when I heard the play back. Chuck chose the order of spots from there-- six, in all-- but his "next" and my "next" were identical throughout. Not sure what that means, but I want to believe that great minds think alike. He amazingly managed to get my energy levels up, adrenaline pumping; he kept me focused, and by the time we got to the spot I both loved and hated the most, it was like spreading soft butter: smooth and easy. Chuck Duran is definitely not the cheapest date in town, but you pay for what you get. I walked away incredibly confident that the finished product would be something that I could proudly wield as my VO calling card, to agents, directors or production companies. There are only so many people who really, really specialize in producing great VO demos. Chuck has an extremely sharp ear, is a great director and creative producer, and he takes the time to get to know each client well so as to make demos that really highlight the right things, and just how good a talent can really sound both in terms of performance and production. In the year after I first went to Chuck my bookings doubled, my margin improved and the number of agents representing me quadrupled. Worth every penny for those who are ready, who've had some training and initial work experience etc. and need to make the leap from demos that just sound "bookable" to ones that meet the highest standards. read more
