Not only was I greeted and welcomed, I eyed lots of gift-able items that I wanted. They sold new home decor items, seasonal decorations, and a pretty intense chalk paint selection. YNOT Art Studio is the latest and greatest art gallery on Sutter Street…read more Intrigued by the business sign, which looks like a paint palette with the word "YNOT" on it, my daughter and I strolled in shortly after the gallery opened, which was in 2020. We barely even had time to look around before we were greeted by Tony, who introduced himself, and explained that "YNOT" was his name spelled backwards. We quickly got to chatting, and he explained that he didn't even start painting until his 70s, which was really only just a few years ago. This was hard to believe, because the art was so stunning, detailed, and imaginative. It looked like the work of someone who had been painting religiously for decades. He explained the stories behind a few of his paintings, and showed us one that he had painted for Alex Honnold. "Do you know who Alex Honnold is?" He asked. "I do, actually," I said. "No," said my daughter. And so Tony explained who Alex Honnold is. I added that I had seen him a few years ago, when I was on my way up to Half Dome. Apparently, Tony was so inspired by Alex that he decided to create a painting of Half Dome to give to him. He explained that he would be sending the artwork to Alex's mother soon. I didn't take a picture of it, but it was fantastic. Prices are relatively affordable, with many pieces under $200. For anyone out there looking for a last minute Mother's Day gift, here is another idea from me. You're welcome. While the shop is small, it is packed with artwork. The store is located in the back of the business alley behind Candle Bar and American Barber Shop. At that time, Thomas Kinkade's art was super popular so much so he franchised out art galleries. Critics said his art was kitsch. My friend called it art. I was on the fence back then. But I have since broaden my horizons to appreciate his artwork. He is known as the famed "Painter of Light". The late Thomas Kinkade was born in Placerville, CA, in 1958 and graduated from the local high school. He passed away in 2012. The art gallery is on Main Street in Placerville. I popped on in a few weeks back. It was filled with a few oil originals and a lot of Thomas Kinkade studio artists works and prints. The studio art continues Kinkade's painting technique and style. Besides the typical Kinkade genres of cottages, bridges, Main Streets, mountains, forests; they carry artwork incorporating Disney images (Disney princesses, Star Wars). My favorite pieces were the classic Kinkade's of Main Street Placerville and California natures scenes such as the images of Yosemite. The person working was welcoming and even though he was busy, he made it a point to sincerely greet everyone.
