I…read morebrought my car @ 95,000 km, I had no issues, the technicians that were there at the time were great, very respectful they knew my car even admired it, during this time I had no issues with my car with its W.O.F checks, I would regularly do the oil and filter change as it only sits in storage, I really got to know the guys there. Then January 2024 there was a change of technicians they did a massive overhaul where all the technicians were new to me. Then an Island guy started checking my car looking in the engine bay, checking my oil? Checking the hose's and the connection to the radiator? I questioned it asking him, "what are you doing? He said its part of his job? I told him its not your job to touch and tug anything in my engine bay? I went and complained to the Indian supervisor being an Islander myself, I didn't appreciate the attitude I got from this Island technician. Then out of know where the technician started to play with my driver seat? pulling it back and forward a bit too much for my liking? The supervisor was there seeing this? I complained again, saying what is he doing? I told the supervisor I've been bring my car here before you all started working here, that I have the paper work to prove it in my car, I've never seen you guy's before your all new. The Island technician moved my car forward revving it as he entered the checking bay? I saw an Indian technician wipe my head lights with some thing? at the time I didn't think of it being suspicious. After the the checks were done the Island technician said I just managed to pass as my front driver seat bolts were loose? I said to him, I've had this car for 5 years, not once has my driver seat bolts have been loose nor was there any indication of it being loose while I've been driving it since I brought my car here for its checks?, I continued to say that, I have all the checks and W.O.F sheets in my car not once has this issue been brought up about my Skyline? I cant prove that he did any thing to it, but days later as I got my car from storage to take to church my head lights housing were fogged up opaque looking when they were brand new looking before my recent W.O.F check now I have to get headlights restored and get the front seat bolts re-tensioned as they were stripped? All I know is I haven't been back since to Drive Sure Cavendish Drive, Manukau after that incident! Nor will I go back there ever! Haters come in all shapes and sizes, they see a Island brother with something nice he's worked hard for they just want to cause more headaches for me! I don't trust Drive sure no more because of this!.

I took my German speedster for her bi annual WOF, only to be told that she needs new brakes, something to do with the engine and that the thingamajik was rattling against the thingy thing. The mechanic handed me my quote for the abovementioned irregularities, and without flinching or even offering a sympathetic shrug, belted out an amount of eight hundred dollars. He did show reaction when I offered to pay in Zim Dollars, and had even more to say, when I paid for my incomplete WOF and left to get my "repairs" done elsewhere. I think they are just very thorough, and I was expecting to just get my WOF. Road users will be happy to know that I've replaced the brakes. Please be patient on the other issues, as I have left the other issues for a later day, lets just say I've gone for a second opinion.

So, it came as a nice surprise when the sales team at Toyota in Albany used a different approach. From the get go, the service was friendly, non invasive and useful. I didn't get a big sales pitch about how good the car is, and how I should see it as an investment, etcetera, etcetera. Nope, the guys let you browse on your own time, they answer questions with useful information, and they let you take it for a test drive. And you get to drive it on a course of your choice. The day of the uninformed shopper is gone, we know what we want, and we know what to look for. Salesmen, please note this on your notepads.

For the service and WOF it was $200. Now the bad: *I needed a new part for my car. They charged me $65 for it (I found out afterwards I could have got it from another garage for $20). Not only that, they told me they would replace it when I got my service but they didn't, I only found out they hadn't done it after I drove away. *I went back two days later for them to replace it, but then the squirters weren't pointing the right way. So I had to go back a third time for them to fix that. It was a pretty painful experience and I don't think I'd go back again in a hurry!!

They called me and said that it would cost $1800 to replace and up to 4 hours work. The guy went on about what a complicated job it was. Not knowing any better, I foolishly trusted him and said to go ahead. After discussing with my husband, we got another price from Giltraps (sometimes the more expensive option!) and they advised it would be $600-$700 for the genuine pump part plus 2 hours labour - and yes, they did ask the rego to confirm the vehicle type. So my husband went to collect my car from Ponsonby Auto and questioned their price. The guy then showed him a completely different vehicle in which the pump was located deep under the engine and made out that that was the same situation with my car. Complete lie, as the pump is waaay more visible and accessible in my car. Then, because we now knew the pump price, he charged for 8 hours labour!!! Obviously had to work backwards from $1800 and add phantom hours to try and hide the fact he was totally ripping me off! We were accepting that they would add a bit of a margin on the part but how do they justify 8 hours labour? I will NEVER use this company again.

Ponsonby Automotive has renewed my faith that they aren't all out to get more $ than needed. Not only do they offer the most friendly service and advice they are super comprehensive and follow up with you so quickly I was astounded. This is the third time I have been there in two months (my fault not theirs that I had to keep going back) so was no one off. Simply call to book in for a WOF or whatever your heart requires, drop it in pre work and expect a phone call back within a couple of hours with what is wrong a how much it will cost. That cost doesn't change either!!! Unlike some of its competitors. I had my car finished and back within a day every time. I have had an ongoing problem with my key that has already cost me $400 to order a new one from Japan. The place sorting it for me then told me it will cost another $400 to get it hooked up to the cars computer (who knew cars had computers?) This had nothing to do with Ponsonby Automotive but I told them my concerns and they found me a much cheaper solution despite the fact they don't get any $ for it. Onya Grant! You run a smart operation mate. I have found a mechanic for life even though I have moved out of the neighbourhood
