The Cineworld at the London Designer Outlet is still fairly new. Had this review been written back…read morein the early days then it would have received a lower mark but the staff have since stopped pratting around behind the counter and actually now get on with their jobs. First the good things - this counts as outer london so the cheaper rate on an unlimited card kicks in, plus there is generally decent legroom in all the seats. The bad... It's on the top floor - and there's no single lift from the ground level. So you need to take two lifts (one of them hidden as it faces Wagamamas) or four escalators. Crazy right?! This is a new build, I hope they didn't pay the architects a great deal for that stroke of genius. It also loses points for the number Bollywood films it shows. They're just my cup of tea, and it's been more than once that we've had to go to a different Cineworld because they didn't show a Hollywood film during release week or at such a rubbish frequency that the times were all pants. And it has a beautifully-decorated auditoreum, of the kind Britain used to have, before Warner Villages, and entertainment parks and Thatcher came to town. And I really rate their selection and choices of films - the artier, more complex interesting side of Hollywood and lots of indy European films. Which tend to be much more inspired than our indy, left-of-centre film industry. So, you'll be watching films amongst other very cool people, who dig these things just like you. But I like that feeling, like, "yeah the Gate Cinema is good, just like this film. Is good - c'est bon uh?" Comme 'le gate'.

The seats are ultra comfortable and there is a coffee table style ledge next to most seats where you can put your bottle of wine or beer - so much more civilised than a plastic cup holder. That's right you can buy alcohol at the bar when you buy your tickets so there's no messing around and getting there 4 hours before. The whole feel is quite upmarket and a little bit of a throw back to when cinemas were really special.

CS gave me 2x free tickets (worth £5 given Meerkat 2-4-1) which ran out during Covid so never used and CS refused to re-send.

Noted for it's spacious couch seating, waiters to bring you the snacks you ordered, and a little table to keep it all on, it is a little more expensive than other cinemas, but you get your money's worth. I have been to other Everyman cinemas and enjoyed the VIP treatment, but in this instance, I found my seat very hard to get comfortable in. It wasn't too hard, but it was so high off the ground that it was impossible for me to get comfortable. It might work for someone 6ft tall but for me, it just wasn't working. I would recommend not sitting in the front, I think there might be better elsewhere in the room.

It was delightful. Later saw Paddington Bear here too. The seats are very comfortable, especially the soft leather sofa. Unlike some other cinemas it's kept very clean. You can also purchase adult drinks at the bar to take into the studios.

You book ahead of time to get comfy lounge chairs or loveseats and can settle into watching a great indie film with a a beer in hand. The flicks are 13 quid a pop but that's about how much they cost everywhere else and you don't get fancy seats with all the rest! PERFECT date spot!
