And the museum was great both times. The temporary exhibits were interesting the on the seond visit and we enjoyed renewing our acquaintance with the terrific permanent collection. The restuarant was another matter. No reservation, we were asked to wait while a table opened up. By a very snooty woman. She had us stand blocking the entrance into the restaurant so we moved about 2 meters (6 feet) so we would be out of he way. The hostess jumped on us like a duck on a june bug. We were in the wrong area. We were blocking access. We must move back to where we were before. We left.

The shows change frequently, but all of the shows I saw had at least one and often more than one dramatically amazing piece of art. About forty percent of what they show here is godawful. This is about the same rate as what they have at the Museu de Bellas Artes in Belgrano. Don't look at the ugly stuff. Look at the amazing stuff. And you will have a wonderful afternoon. * * * * Technically, Yelp is a restaurant reviewing site Although people review everything on here as one time or another. How is the cafe? Great tables for sitting or working on your computer. Wonderful art work on the wall. (Robust stuff that could tolerate spilled coffee or a toddler's spaghetti mistake.) My coffee and cookie were ho hum. But the room is nice. If I had some art criticism to write ... This would be a fine place to do it. And BOY could I say a lot about the good stuff and the bad stuff on these walls.

The entrance was free on the day we went and even on paid days is pretty reasonable at 30 pesos. The beautiful staircase and ballroom with its giant crystal chandelier take you back to another time. The solid but small collection of art in the downstairs level contains some large paintings that allow one to contemplate Argentine history especially in relation to water which feels quite relevant given the museum's location on the river bank. There is a small cafe in the museum, but it seems a shame to eat there, as it has no view of the river, and there are so many wonderful little spots in Tigre with a view or outdoor patio. The museum is the perfect size for an afternoon escape back in time on a rainy day. You can run through the exhibits in under an hour, but around two hours seems to be enough time to see everything including the grounds.

My wife and I took a half day tour of some of the important sights including the Casa Rosado, Recoletta Cemetery and ending up at this museum. I am sure what originally peaked my interest was a Broadway Show about her but there was so much more to this amazing story of how she captivated a country and was both loved and despised at the same time. The part that wanted to focus on was the love. Even the building this museum is housed in was a foundation of her foundation to house and educate the poor until they could find alternative living. Giving women the right to vote and becoming a voice for those who needed one. Yes, this also becomes a massive game of politics and this woman totally captivated me even though I learned things about her that did not sit well with me. Translation for me was not an issue as we had our own guide. I did not understand why the clothing could not be photographed. There are plenty of pictures of it right here in Yelp and you would think that there are also thousands of photos while she was actually wearing this clothing. This well maintained museum was a great final stop on my personal "Evita Trail." She was clearly captivating, knew how to speak to a crowd (remember, she was an actress,) and will last in the history book for a long, long time. My heartstrings were being moved by this experience. Yes folks, I was buying it all, hook, line, and sinker. Eva Peron was both a loved and despised political figure in Buenos Aires but this museum (situated in one of the buildings she used to house the unhoused until they could find homes) focuses on the good. You'll depart believing that the whole country adored her and why not? She was instrumental in giving the poor a voice and services, gaining women the right to vote, and ensuring care for those orphaned and abandoned. When she died far too early, the county not only ran out of flowers but surrounding countries did as well. Entry to the museum includes a link to a brief voice-over, in English, of each room you enter. So bring your earbuds, listen, and read and watch everything. It's all very moving and impactful. Buenos Aires has some great art museums but make some time for this museum. It's really wonderful.
