The thing I never really understand about Matalan is the need for cards. Why do they have them? It used to be that you had to have a card to buy anything, but on my more recent visit, I noticed they had slackened up on that, and it's now used for more of a rewards card than store ID. This store has everything; kids, women's and men's clothes, shoes and home ware. They have a brilliant underwear section and sell branded bras at less than half price. They even have Calvin Klein boxers at £9 a pack, which is less than half price, ideal for Xmas or Birthday pressies! I used the services that M Party provides for my 21st birthday party, and had cream and pink balloons with lovely little shimmery weights and bits and bobs for decorating the hall, all for under £100, which was amazing value! You have to collect the balloons yourself but that wasn't a problem. They have table decorations, age specific decorations and buffet ware, which is all fairly priced and available in every colour imaginable! They also make up banners if you want them, although I felt they were a bit pricey. Huge store with loads of bargains! The clothes in Matalan are getting nicer by the season, and I would highly recommend it for summer holiday clothes.

The first floor is more women's oriented, with tartan featuring prominently. The second floor is men's, which had some decent selections of Fred Perrys and the like. After only two or three calls, I reached Dicks Edinburgh and was told that they did have exactly what I was seeking. A few hours later, after we had toured Edinburgh Castle, we hopped into a cab and went straight there. My husband and I were the only customers, and the entire staff (two women and a man) were collectively attentive to us. It took me only a few minutes to decide on the perfect jumper. It was a lovely experience from start to finish. Dicks Edinburgh is clearly a quality clothing store, and I would not hesitate to shop there again.

I popped in for a super quick look - I was contemplating getting a coffee but then thought better of it seeing it was already late afternoon. I did notice that Papercup don't just do coffee though, there's also a small selection of cakes on offer. Forty is the clothing side of things and while it's not my kind of thing (edgy streetwear), they did have some nice stuff and tshirts. There's also Safehands Barbers so you can get a whole new look with a cut and some clothes. In this area, I can't think of any other independent coffee shops so I'd definitely pop back for a coffee next time I'm in Royal Exchange Square.

I had a quick look around, it's a nice space, clothes and sneakers downstairs, barber through the back, Papercup up front. A nice modern addition to Royal Exchange Square, the logo for the Forty range were designed by the owners kid, which is a nice touch, and I'm so happy that Papercup are now in the city centre! Definitely be back to do some shopping, and of course, get some good coffee!!

Given that the dead are not currently roaming the streets and that society isn't crumbling we concentrated on looking for a warm winter coat for smudge. That said she'd still need to be warm in a nuclear winter, dual purpose shopping! They have a good selection of kids outdoorsy clothing and especially jackets and coats ranging from economical regatta ones right through to seriously spendy Berghaus ones. Thankfully she fell in love with a middle of the range Craghoppers one. It's waterproof, fleecy lined and has a great hood so the poor sausage is getting no lifts to school this winter. While we were there g found a long list of cycling gubbins that has now been added to his 'I need all this now' list and I found a really cozy warm winter coat that might be worth investing in given that a denim jacket is not really the most sensible bit of outerwear for a Scottish winter. Poor puff was the only one of us not really catered for but she'd has so much fun riding in the trolly and pulling things off the displays that I don't think she minded one bit. It has to be said that finding a member of staff in here is virtually impossible. Even when it comes to actually buying something and handing over your money you just can't find any staff. I left g to pay while I got the kids in the car. By the time he had payed I'd got both girls in and buckled, returned the trolley and checked the news app for any signs of a coming apocalypse, not somewhere to come if you are in a rush to leave town and head somewhere more remote and safe.

Some better than others but as an outdoor type I just want somebody who can find the size of shoes I'm looking for.
