The quality of the product appears to be very high, they are a local company and have had to really work hard promoting local produce. They had a very difficult time during the foot and mouth days and its nice to see they are on form with a very busy popular store.The hygiene here appears to be very high. They also prepare fresh sandwiches to order at the back of the shop. A great place to stock up on provisions for the Coast to Coast Cycle.

My dad told me pay a visit to this butchers after buying a piece of machinery from them for our bakery and then finding out how much AWARD WINNING produce they have! I got told to get the award winning bacon and Cumberland Sausages. So, in we walk and I have never seen so many award winning signs in my life! What to choose??? Let's start with the Cumberland sausages - two kinds, both please! And then to the choice of bacon, well, how do people choose?? We opted for the black treacle cured back bacon (award winning obviously) and Adam Y chose the oak smoked back bacon. All the bacon was boasting not to leave that nasty white stuff in your pan. While we were here we picked up some award winning pies too. Pork Pie, Peppered Steak Pie and Chicken Pie. All of which looked perfect (coming from a baker, that's a HUGE compliment) and i am told they tasted just as good! The service we received whilst in the shop was second to none. Enough said. The rolls and baguettes and fillings are great, the best in town, and far better than what you get from Greggs. The prices are also inline with others in the area. Service is good as well. But there's a major problem, the vast majority of the time the selection is poor. I come in early most mornings to get a coronation chicken baguette. Half the time they have it, half the time they don't. It's the same for the pies they sell, they rarely have them all. It's gets worse if you come in after early morning. They don't seem to restock anything so it gets pretty barren. After lunch time there's almost nothing left. I wish they'd fix it because they're really losing out on business. As an example, today I came in an hour after opening. I wanted a coronation chicken baguette, nope, don't have any. Tikka? No. Ok, maybe I'll just have a steak pie. Again, no... I guess I'll just have to have the meat and potato one, but that'd be pretty dry so I'll have gravy and peas with it. They had neither. This is the worst it's been before. You should definitely still try it out, but you'll need luck on your side if you want anything in particular.

Despite turning up on time we had to queue outside for at least 25 minutes with several others waiting for people to finish their meals. Once inside the waiter was super apologetic, and you could tell he needed a drink himself. The restaurant was very cosy with interesting pieces of art on the walls. A nice very traditional feel about the place. Anyway the starters consisted of various seafood and meat dishes to which you can size up as a main on average pricing of £7 to £15. I had the pork cheeks and himself the clam spaghetti. While we waited we were presented with canapés consisting of cheese and carmalised onions..the other truffle oil on crackers. These were a very tasty treat. The spaghetti was well made and the sauce light smothering the tiny clams. My pork cheek was super tender, and it lay perched on perfect mash, panchetta, black pudding, pickled onions in a tomato broth. Various bits of bread was also served to mop up this juice. Only criticism clam meat is sooo small in this country so not worth the battle against the shells for such a tiny reward. For mains I had the seafood special which was a bowl filled with mussels, clams, scallop, king prawns and longuistines swimming in a broth and fresh pasta. This was super tasty, cooked to perfection and presented nicely. My only gripe was I only had one at most two scallops. My other half chose the lamb which again was super tender, in a homely bed of mash, sauce and root vegetables. Super simple dish but everything was cooked perfectly. I was feeling quite full but the orange panacotta with orange sorbet was too tasty to miss. It didn't disappoint. Overall despite the disappointing beginning the service was impeccable and food really tasty. However I did expect a bit more in terms of creativity considering this was a Michelin star restaurant. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy your seafood especially.
