Tucked away in the town market arcade is Waffles. This is a full service British cafe buzzing with the chatter of the locals. I didn't look for waffles on the menu as I was completely staggered by the size of their scones. In the great tradition of 'Elevenses' I had a Cornish pastie and then one of the scones that are baked every morning, both were delicious. The girl at the counter called everyone 'my love' (very West Country) and there were lots of smiles and nods as we found a table next to a group of gentlemen, who were bunched into a pine semi circular booth. One of these gents leaned over and told us the tale - they are all cancer survivors and meet their twice a week. He also told us a lot about his life as a house painter and asked a bunch of cheeky questions which were very nosey and very funny. Far from the twee tea shops which litter the towns and villages of England I felt like we had stumbled into a real slice of life. And it was worth the trip just for the Mega Scone. read more

Staff were friendly. The restaurant was not terrible clean when I went and the food was not particularly great.

Meet the Business Owner: Nikki W.
I have owned Waffles since 2001 and as a sole trader since 2009 - we pride ourselves on good home cooking all of which is self taught with the help of some very good staff. I have always been in retail and have been in full time employment since the age of 16 - I love my job and my staff are more than "staff" they are my extended family.
