How sad . . . this place sits, apparently unused/little used and in great disrepair…read more I was here once, when the owner and his "partner" (I don't know if it was business or personal but she was very nice) opened the mansion for a Boiling Springs Civic Association function. It is just lovely. Much of the house's original features have been keep - woodwork, floors, floorplan, etc. The kitchen had been completely remodeled. I did not have a chance to see the upstairs. I hope that the current owner does something with it or sells it to someone who will . . . it is such an icon of the Children's Lake area - it would be a shame to see it become so decayed that there is no choice but to tear it down. I can see it as a fantastic little french restaurant or an art gallery with a funky little cafe. The view of the lake is beautiful.

And each time, I stop by & say hello to this once magnificent Georgian style home. It was built some where around 1780 by Michael Ege, Sr. a prominent Ironmaster, and was later passed to J.C. Bucher, another Ironmaster until the late 1890's. Perhaps some day it will be returned to it's former glory.

It crosses the Sherman Creek, and it's about 150 feet long! This picturesque Burr Truss bridge was built in 1864 and renovated in the early 1900's due to a flood. I love the stone walls leading up to the bridge and the interior lattice framework is beautiful! You can't miss this "pop of color" surrounded by gorgeous greenery! The architectural design of covered wooden bridges will never cease to amaze me!!

Here's my experience. 1) Admission: Park in the free lot, enjoy the outdoor sculptures, and then walk inside. Admission is free. Staff will guide you to a table where you'll chose a free I.D. card that tells you the story of a soldier in one of several American wars. The World War II story is their most popular. 2) Exhibits: The main exhibit is tasteful and focuses on the history of the U.S. military, which I appreciated. It's a lot of reading, but they also have lots of artifacts, stations to interact with, and a fun parachute game. Space: There are clean restrooms, a gift shop, and other exhibits with photos, etc.

Our westbound drive included going through the Mountain Tunnels - Tuscarora being one of them. It's a cool experience to take this scenic route and drive through this tunnel. Forewarning, beautiful but there's a risk. We took this route on 6/4 and we were stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for hours because of a closure at Allegheny Tunnel due to a vehicle fire inside the tunnel (150 people were evacuated from the tunnel). If something happens in the tunnel, there isn't room to easily detour cars out of the tunnel.
