The mansion was built in 1882 and is architecturally interesting, as are a few of the buildings. There is a tennis house that I would love to call my own( I have a thing for tiny houses) But as a township taxpayer I can't help feeling that this property is underutilized. There is a tiny playground that seems to be forgotten. An antique tennis court that appears not to have been played on for decades. A lawn bowling court that is meticulously groomed, but does anyone even know what lawn bowling is? And grape vines that are reverting back to their wild form. A few times a year there are tours of the mansion, and in the summer months there are some concerts near the very large gazebo. But this is not a park with much recreation going on. Not really advisable for walking or jogging unless you are within walking distance. Maybe a picnic spot if you live or work nearby. With all this land it would be nice to see some biking or walking trails, or an upgraded playground at least. Still, in a township where open spaces are evaporating, I guess it is good that this land was not sold to a developer. But for the amount of taxes that residents pay, it would be better to see this park become more utilitarian. It just squeaked in at 3 Yelps.

It's a beautiful house, built in the late 1800s, with many fascinating artifacts and pieces of furniture and the history of the house and the Kuser family are very well presented. I highly recommend a visit - not only to the house but also to the park which has a wndmill, fountain, clay tennis court built in 1912, caretakers home, carriage house, gazebo, laundry house and gardens. Everything seems pretty well maintained. Keeping it honest in my review, one thing I didn't like about Heavenly Farms was the air quality. At first I thought it was related to the Canadian wildfires but that shouldn't still be an issue now. I did a little more research and it seems the park is close to some warehouse distribution centers (O'Neill logistics, Creative logistics solutions) southwest of it in Monroe. I'm guessing the bad air I smell may be from idling trucks - google maps satellite view showed quite a lot of them less than a kilometer away.

Plus parking is easy and ample at all times. In addition, Crystal Springs (the waterpark/aquatic center in town) is right down the street so that helps out during a summer day, and the Complex is also really close. It gets 3 stars because while it is a very pretty park/area, it is more or less just green space. There's no wow factor, but it serves a nice purpose.

The only reason we went out of our way to visit... raconteur/enfant terrible/mastermind Orson Welles' broadcast from 1938. Early morning, first-Sunday-of-summer, perfect weather, it was a really nice and relaxing stroll through nature and getting wrapped up in the whole "Weird NJ"-ish-ness of the location. Glad to have checked it out, read up on the history/trivia of The Mercury Theater's stunt, Zen'ed out a bit looking at the pond (and fisherman out yonder) and then it was time to head back home.

Grovers Mill was the accidental epicenter of the infamous 1938 War of the Worlds radio broadcast by Orson Welles, which caused widespread panic as listeners believed a real Martian invasion was underway. The writers reportedly chose the location by dropping a pencil on a map, launching Grovers Mill into unexpected fame and chaos. You can experience this quirky slice of history by visiting the monument commemorating the event in Van Nest Park. Follow the short, paved path to the right of the playground to find informational displays about the broadcast. Continue walking to the field, and look to your left, the monument is slightly tucked away behind some bushes. The park itself is a lovely place to relax: bring a picnic, enjoy the playground, or sit on a bench overlooking the serene Grover's Mill Pond. Leashed and friendly dogs are allowed! Just up the road, be sure to stop by the Red Barn, a charming spot and perfect backdrop for a photo.

JACKSON: The Silver Stream & Steve Kitay trails are part of the Metedeconk Preserve, a special…read moresection of nature that is forever preserved by New Jersey Conservation Foundation. It is a really beautiful and peaceful park where at some points it is so quiet that it is wonderfully eerie. Leashed dogs can go on a nature walk with you! In the summer, the park is very rooty, muddy, and overgrown with green leaves from the many trees. In the winter, the conditions are pretty much the same, but with a lot less green! Turns out this park's purpose is to hold flood waters, so that explains the mud! It is a fun place to walk with many bridges and boardwalks to cross over and nice views of the Metedeconk River and little streams. I recommend wearing hiking boots as there are many roots and your feet might get stuck in mud! The 2-mile trail is well-marked and you can find your way back out! (I get lost easily, so good signs are important to me)! There is a bonus 1-mile "Steve Kitay" trail that goes even deeper into nature with more views of the river. It is interesting comparing the park between the winter and summer. With less leaves on the trees, you can see more nature and better views of the river! This is my family's favorite spot for a leisure stroll. We'd almost always come for a walk when the…read moreweather is nice, especially after a big meal. It allows for all sorts of activities in a compact 71 acre space. This is also a great spot to view the fall foliage. There are 2 entrances. The main entrance is off Pond Rd. There is a side entrance off Robertsville Rd but that parking lot can accommodate only about half a dozen cars. A typical walk is a round trip from between the 2 entrances and you'll rack up about 2 miles. There is an excursion trail around the outside boundaries of the park beginning at the Robertsville entrance. With that you can make up 3 miles which was what I used to do when I was training for the varsity cross-country team. The pond is good for boating and fishing and is stocked with trout every year. The playground is right by the pond and is a great photo spot for your kids. There is a stage and a nice-sized pavilion in front of it. Perfect for a summer concert or play. There are benches and picnic tables throughout. In my most recent visit (Oct'21) I was pleasantly surprised to find that they've added a large number of brand new benches and picnic tables made with recycled material. Also, the parking lot at the main entrance has been redone and doubled the capacity. For these surprises I'm bumping the rating up to 5 stars. PS. If you're into mountain biking, I'll let you in on a local secret. There is a technical course adjacent to the southeast side of the park and you can access it at the end of Brookwood Dr.

There is something for everyone to enjoy here. Bring your canoes or kayaks. There is a boat launch near the entrance. You can fish here, the lake is stocked with fish. We have yet to catch anything but plants and a snapping turtle. There is a nice trail along the lake to walk or bike. There is a little playground too but this is probably the worst maintained area of the park. There are no bathrooms here but there are porta potties. Every time I've been here when it's warm the ice cream truck has come in here. Other than that there are no concession stands. Just pack a lunch and enjoy at one of the picnic tables.

They have lots of baseball diamonds. They also have really good playground equipment. I know a grandmother who loves pushing her granddaughter around in the stroller on the track around the perimeter. There's no cost to use the facility, which is nice. It's not worth traveling to, but if you live in toms River it's a good place to visit just to get out or if you have kids playing games here.

The best dog park…read more The enclosed space is large enough so that half the area is where dogs can mingle and the back half is a wooded area where dogs can explore for those more curious. I love how people and dogs can have their own space here. For the most part, owners clean up after their pets. Outside the dog park is an expansive stretch of grassy fields for your dog to roam around after. This is me and my fur son's happy place.
