He drew up the papers, filed them in White Plains then out of the blue, he called me to tell me he had to pull the lawsuit because important information was missing from the document. Wait!! Why did I hire a lawyer to draw up paperwork and it was incorrect? He was provided with all the necessary documentation prior to the filing and he told me we could never win based on the information in that document and, in addition, my former employer could turn around and sue me. I was baffled. So he pulled the lawsuit and I asked for the remainder of my retainer to be refunded. His secretary provided me with his billing via e-mail and that billing reflected that he owed me approximately $3,500.00. When I went to his office to get my refund, I was told that he forgot to add a few billable items on there and it turned out I owed him somewhere in the area of $500.00. I spoke to him and he said he would waive that $500.00 in additional fees out of the goodness of his heart. Bottom line, I was out $7,500.00 which he gladly took and did a slapshot job. Very disappointed in Mr. Lovett. Wish I had read the reviews prior to making that appointment. Shame on him.

After a month since we started the case, I haven't heard any progress and my ex was rushing me everyday. I decided to send Leon an email. After a few weeks past, I didn't hear back from him and then I called the office. The receptionist, who picked up my call, sounded clueless. She asked me to spell my name at least 5 times and I felt that she was very annoyed with my long last name. I asked her to let Leon know to reply my call or email. However, I never got the response. A week later, I decided to switch the attorney and then finally I heard back from Leon. And he added some statements in the drafted settlement document from the opponent attorney, which didn't apply anymore. It costed me almost $1000. Very mixed feelings about Donna Abrams at this firm. On the plus side, she's got a lot of…read moreexperience in matrimonial law and knows all the players in this small town. On the minus side, she's overworked, overbooked, and can be super sloppy on the details in Court. She basically relies on all her experience to wing it in Court the many times she hasn't had the time -- or made the time -- to really study the details of a case. That can hurt the client badly, as it did me when she missed a detail embedded in my final settlement written by the opposing lawyer that has come back to haunt me big time in real life after the divorce. She didn't represent what I wanted well at the beginning at all, basically grinned when she told the other side what I wanted, which pretty much shot me in the foot from the beginning. It's time for her to retire, frankly, but at $500/hour, it's doubtless she will.
