It's good, they've been doing it 11 years, they're nice. This is a business run by two people who have dedicated their whole lives to this food. While the place itself could use a deep clean and layout overhaul, the chopped brisket was delicious and I appreciate the availability of cobbler in my daily choices. Worth a try, especially if you're on the road-they are only a two minute detour from I-10. But you'll have to eat in your car OR the nearby park (score!), because I didn't see a place to sit down and enjoy your BBQ read more

There was this red hair that looked at us and turned up her nose up to us and walked away, she did not want to seat us. This guy came in after us and she sat him down right away and then took his order, I think because he was white and my husband was black! It's really sad that we are in 2023 that there are still narrow minded people out there, but she is in the wrong line of work dealing with tourist of all kinds. Ordered the brisket sandwich and the brisket plate with pinto beans, potato salad, peach cobbler and a lemonade. It was delicious, well prepared, not too salty or spicy it was actually perfect. The beans were very tasty, the potato salad had many nice flavors. Maybe the peach cobbler could be a tiny bit crispier otherwise equally as tasty. A wonderful surprise ! Can't sit inside due to covid so a few picnic tables await--one of which I felt o be the best seat in the house. Ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket and ribs and potato salad and cole slaw for the sides. The sauce is delicious-not to sweet and not too sour and it comes on the side. The brisket was fatty and melted in my mouth. Ribs were a lil dry. Served with a piece of white toast and fresh onions. I also got a piece of apple pie and iced tea--it's unclear if this was a package deal or I was up sold without even knowing it! Kyle--the man behind the meat--saw us taking a gander at the pit so he graciously came over and opened up for us to see. My hubby and I were quite surprised by this place. First of all, we were in the middle of nowhere helping a friend. Once we got done, we needed to eat. If you drive by it and blink, you'll miss it. Once we parked and walked in, we were underwhelmed. We felt we were greeted coldly. The place is nothing to look at. The menu looks overpriced, yet it was the only BBQ joint for the next 50ish miles. As we began to eat the food, the experience turned to joy. The brisket was great! My hubby also loved the rib and cobbler. Fabulous little restaurant in what was once an old service station from probably the 1950's. They did have a few tables inside but we just got our brisket to go. The side dishes were very good but the star of the show was the brisket! This is one of those quirky places that ya never forget. Definitely earned a spot on my "Best of America" list. Yelp does not fail. We found this place because and ONLY because of Yelp. This is as described on Yelp, a family that took an old gas station and turned it into a small restaurant. If you happen upon this place on a Sunday, you better get their early because they run out of food, that is how amazing this food it. They are closed on Monday's because this is the day they start cooking. The Brisket and chicken which are the two meats I tried were the best I have ever had. The brisket is cooked on the grill for a few hours and then put into the smoker to another 15 or so hours and when it is done, OMG, AMAZING. This place does not look like much from the outside or the inside but the care and love that goes into preparing the food for you is higher then any place II have seen. This place did not get the reputation it has by slacking and there is no slacking on the quality or quantity. If you are passing through the area and you better watch the map and road because if you do not you will fly past this town on the freeway, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU stop in for a meal. What a find! We ordered some brisket and chicken with a few sides and boy they were both were tender and tasty! The brisket had a nice bark on the outside and melted in your mouth. The chicken was herbaceous and buttery and my kids asked for more of it. Everything about this place screamed traditional Texas bbq. Even the owner Kirby (so hospitable) in the same light gave the family and I a tour of the pit and fire area which for me was a delight. All the bbq joints in Austin were closed New Year's Day so we decided to stop by Wagon Wheel on our way to Marfa. The place was charming and the women who greeted us were very friendly. The brisket was so tender, juicy, and with just enough texture. It was better than some bbq we had in austin. Potato salad was great too. I read the other reviews and yes there were dogs outside and the food is kept warm in foil tray burners and there are huge speakers playing TV with no tv in sight but that's the charm of the place. Once we entered, we noticed this place has homey atmosphere and liked it. We ate Ribs and Chicken BBQ with 4 side dishes. Everything was so delicious!!!! No carbs for me but if I did, I'd chewed my arm off to get some of that cobbler! So friendly down home folks in an old repurposed gas station. The brisket was smokie, moist and had the smoke ring. Excellence in smoking. I did the sausage twice in the week I was in beautiful Ozona. Got them sliced for easy picking at all night eating. THE SAUSAGE IS WORTH IT. This sausage was moist, smokie, and delicious. The skin was just right. I'll stop again when I'm back down that way. And on price, we'll it's BBQ but Wagon Wheel is priced perfect for the BBQ choice. We were heading west on I-10 on New Years Eve and knew the pickings were going to get slim fast, especially as it was getting on towards late afternoon. We had skipped the poorly-rated drive thru options in the previous five towns in hopes of discovering a culinary gem. Imagine my delight when we rolled into town and I gave the Wagon Wheel a call at 4:40pm and they said they were open and would be for twenty minutes. The brisket, ribs, and sausage were tender and juicy, the corn was steaming hot, the sauce was tangy, and the peach cobbler was flaky and not too sweet (just the way I like it). This is now my go-to spot for crossing Texas on the I-10. It came at the perfect time for lunch on the way east from El Paso, was very easily accessible, and is a shining example of good Texas bbq. The brisket was smoky and flavorful. An apparent homemade sauce in a squeeze bottle was a blend of tangy and spicy. I blended it with the other sauces of the store bought variety that was on the table. My wife chose the brisket plate which was served with 2 sides. She chose the slaw as well, but also the macaroni salad. Lots of mayo in this one. Her brisket was flavorful like mine. Hers included a dessert and she opted for the banana pudding which was sweet and average. Prices are above expectation and ambiance is gas station potluck as everything is served out of crockpots next to the cash register.
