Extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience with the West Elm Emeryville store,…read morespecifically with Lana, the store manager. I own a design-build firm and was working on furnishing a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home in San Francisco. The plan was to purchase most of the furniture new, with West Elm and CB2 as the main vendors under consideration. Aside from a Saarinen table and a few rugs I already had available for styling, nearly everything else was going to be sourced new. I booked an appointment earlier in the week for Friday afternoon and adjusted other appointments to make that time work. Then, on Friday morning, Lana called and immediately launched into a very rude and dismissive conversation about the appointment. Rather than asking thoughtful questions or trying to understand the scope of the project, she made it clear that they did not want to come out if I was not guaranteed to buy something. She said they keep the option open in case it is "not worth their time." That was incredibly off-putting, especially considering I was already styling the home with West Elm pieces and seriously considering West Elm for a large portion of the furnishing package. As a design-build professional, I work with many vendors, and this is not how serious trade or retail relationships are handled. When I explained that the short timing, the disruption to my schedule, and the lack of professional communication reflected poorly on West Elm, Lana was dismissive again and said I had already made my feelings clear. Immediately after hanging up, she sent the appointment cancellation. The issue is not just that the appointment was cancelled. It is the tone, the assumption that my project was not worth their time, and the complete lack of professionalism from a store manager. Based on other recent reviews, poor customer service does not seem to be an isolated experience at this location or with West Elm more broadly. I was prepared to source a meaningful amount of furniture through West Elm, but this interaction made it clear that I should take the business elsewhere. I would not recommend the Emeryville store for designers, builders, or customers expecting professional service.

White glove service has been fantastic and my furniture still has stood the test of time - over 7 years! Quality, not overly trendy and still looks like it belongs in 2025. Not perfect or THE BEST, but quite good. Just replaced a console and it was just delivery - simple, free shipping and easy to assemble - feels sturdy, functional and looks stylish. I have only purchased hard furniture - i would go to a seating specialist for upholstered items. Prices are reasonable for what you are paying for - timeless and solid quality. Good for this type of store - accessible and fits most aesthetics.

As a designer I am always in search of very particular items to give a pop of color, add the patina of an aged finish or a striking silouette or modern form. This is the only place I know that never fails - there is a bounty of beautiful vessels from all around the world in sumptuous textures and colors with designs that range from old world to modern. Even when I go in determined to only purchase a few items, I end up spending hours wandering through and finding new treasures. The staff is always very helpful, and a big shout out to Evan who helped me today and is so knowledgeable about plants and especially to Carlos for his amazing knowledge and good taste, who went out of his way to help me find exactly what I needed.

Their pricing is slight lower than my local nursery. I've seen pots at HomeGoods for about half the price here, but they're not available in all stores or at all times. So I would say if you want to wait to find a deal, this is not the place for you, but if you're in need of a pot you'll find a great one here. We purchased a 14-inch diameter glazed indoor pot for $100. They also had a clearance section with mostly smaller 2-6-inch pots.

I decided to look it up so my girlfriend, her sister, and I can go and check it outwhen. Lord behold it's in Berkeley! Ok, not a big deal, but we all kept thinking that they should fix the location across social media videos. We get there and parking isn't easy to find. You have to park in or around the other warehouses in the area or a couple of blocks away. After we found parking we made our way over and oh it was a huge disappointment to behold. I think we only stayed for a few minutes before we called it a bust and a waste of time. Do not, I repeat, do not believe the videos that these social media influencers are feeding your algorithm. There was so much trash, broken products, and some of the furniture that could be salvaged had ridiculous price tags on them. Some sets were incomplete, coffee mugs were cracked, tools rusted, and when asked about certain electronics working conditions they either didn't know or refused to check. Needless to say we were unimpressed and never coming back.

They've got so many choices and it was really hard to narrow it down but we ended up going with the Vihals 6-drawer dresser. We saw it in the showroom, took a picture of where in the warehouse it would be, and once we got to the bottom floor it was a breeze. What wasn't a breeze was putting the darn thing together. 3-hrs on a Sunday to build this dresser was no easy task but we made it happen. If there's one feedback, I think written versions of the instructions would be more helpful. The pictures aren't always clear cut and sometimes it's hard to know left from right. Maybe it's user error but some verbiage of instructions would've gone a long way. We opted to skip the food court this time around because our last few times eating there it just wasn't as good as it used to be. After checkout though, they have a meatball sundae, which comes with 3 meatballs, mashed potatoes, and their berry sauce. It's a solid snack for $2.50ish. Their spicy mustard actually paired well with everything. I had the lowest of low expectations but actually it was quite nice to tide me over until we made it to actual lunch. The parking situation is pretty easy here, but it's far from the entrance. Make sure to wear some comfy shoes if you plan on buying bigger items.
