Can you believe it, this cemetery covers 108 hectares of land!
It is a place for many families to come and remember their dearly departed. Obviously the headstones, chapel and crematorium covers a large majority of the land, but this is also a beautiful park, gardens and bush walks which I make full advantage of when walking my dog.
Yes, this is a favourite Auckland dog walking spot. The views of the city and Waitakere hills is absolutely stunning any time of day and the tracks you can literally walk for hours if you choose through the facility.
Often I will stop to look at a headstone, so much history is documented here such as the Holocaust Memorial, 1918 Influenza Epidemic and the Erebus Memorials. Anzac commemorations are held at the Cenotaph. If you were so inclined, they do cemetery walks through the summer months. read more
