We were loathe to hire a service to take us to Pearl Harbor, but I can say that in hindsight, it was a great experience. We had eight total people on our tour. I never felt rushed or as if I was going to miss something. This was my first time to Hawaii and I wanted to do all the "touristy" things. I can say, unequivocally, that our day with Lui and the Keawe adventures rates right at the top of our experience on Oahu. I actually felt sorry for the tourists on those huge buses. I also want to thank Lui for listening to my few stories...not sure he bought them...but they were true. Great guide. Great time.

What help made it such a tremendous experience is out fantastic tour guide Lui. He was not only very knowledgeable about what led up to and including the actions on the day of the attack, but he was able to bring him own knowledge and personal experience into the tour to help explain at a level that couldn't be done with just any tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone and everyone who asks.

I've hiked this trail a few times and have seen downed trees before however nothing like our recent…read morehike. After two heavy rain storms that caused flooding in the Islands some areas of the hike had whole hill sides that had numerous trees down. The trail is only passable because of the hard work of the parks crew. In normally shaded areas there is more because of this. It's really a sight to see the terrifying yet amazing strength of nature. The hike is about 5.5 miles long, not very hard with beautiful views.

Aiea Loop Trail is an excellent and well-maintained hike that's friendly for everyone, and a very…read moresafe, simple, and straightforward for first timers. This hike is located all the way up in Aiea. Just get on Aiea Heights Drive and drive all the way up till the end of the road. You will reach the entrance to Keaiwa Heiau State Park. Note operating hours--opens 7am, closes 645pm winter and 745pm summer. Once in, stay on the right, and keep driving up past the picnic/park area, campgrounds, and other parking lots till you reach the very top. But, if you want to park where the trail ends, it's actually the parking lot to the right just before. There are restrooms and picnic tables at the top. The hike is 4.8 miles. It took us about 2.5 hours with a steady pace and some stops for photos. It's relatively flat with a very slow incline and decline, and shaded by tall trees a majority of the hike with a nice, crisp air. The hard dirt pathway is wide enough and very easy to follow. You get views of Halawa valley, H-3, Pearl Harbor, airport, and east and west side along the way. Nothing spectacular. There are quite a bit of fallen trees, especially towards the end of the trail, if you started from the upper section. Overall, a very nice, quiet hike that wasn't strenuous, or too short or too difficult. Good solid, 5-mile hike with a well maintained path and parking. It's quite safe--if you stay on the path, of course!

If you're into historical locations, this is a place to visit on island…read more Parking - $7 in their lots but if you go down just past them, there is a free lot. Bag policy - leave your bags in the car or home. You cannot enter with anything bigger than a small wallet. They will make you check it and pay. Better to not bring at all. Very strict. Tickets - Pearl Harbor itself to enter is free. You cannot pay $1 online to prebook the USS Arizona memorial boat tour in advance or just sign up as soon as you get there and it's free. Each time I've just done the latter and it usually gets me on the boat within an hour. They seem to always have standby but I've only gone in the afternoon. The tickets for everything else, you should look online in advance to include the bowfin and battleship. Those you should book online. Time - if you're not doing any paid additional tours, I would recommend 2-3 hours. There are 2 smaller museum areas to walk through, a walking path outside along the water, a 20+ minute video and the boat tour. You can definitely pair this visit with other activities throughout your day Food - there is a snack shop inside. Bathrooms - at least 2 available on each end Staff - some of the park rangers could be nicer. I've been a few times and one of them, they seemed on a grumpy or angry side. Not because anyone was doing anything they shouldn't be, that's just the way their attitude was but it could have just been a bad day. The memorial is open 7am to 5pm.

Just show your email receipt is enough but most had to show a QR code that I was unable to download for some reason. Still was a pretty place. Btw, parking is a NIGHTMARE. Be there an hour before your board time. Don't plan on parking in the memorial lot at all, just park north of there in free parking by the private dock. Btw, don't be an idiot like the other 100 people and bring a bag/purse! You'll be standing in a locker line with the other 100 people trying to get a locker for an hour.

The desks feel crowded and unorganized. PRICE: $$$ You won't find better ticket deals for Disney than military promo tickets and anyone with a military identification card can purchase 6 tickets at the promo price per year per park --Disneyland/Disneyworld. Paid $319 for 3 day Park Hopper pass for Disneyland. SWAG/AMENITIES: -Event and theme park tickets -Equipment rental STAFF & EXPERIENCE: Had a little wait when we came in, and signed up on the guest list. Once our name was called, we were greeted politely and questioned about our needs. We were informed of the deals on the Disneyland tickets and were able to purchase and secure them right on the spot they told us how to use the tickets. It's not the same as the old days where you just show up with a ticket handed to the person and you're through. I recommend for any military members or dependence trying to get tickets for Disney or universal.

The tickets for the USS Arizona are released in 2 waves: 2 months prior and the day before. I…read moremissed the first window, so I was glad I was able to snag a spot the day prior. I believe I selected the 2nd earliest slot. When you get to Pearl Harbor, there's 2 main exhibits that give a good summary of the history surrounding the events at Pearl Harbor. Those are free and don't require any sort of ticket. I can see it getting fairly busy later in the day, and it might be harder to get up close to some of the displays. Before getting to the USS Arizona, there's a short film and one of the employees emphasized that the USS Arizona is a burial site, so we should be respectful. Afterwards, it was a short boat ride to the USS Arizona. Immediately at the USS Arizona memorial, the mood was very solemn. Over 2 thousand people lost their lives from the attack on Pearl Harbor, and obviously that's a lot of people, but it's hard to imagine/visualize. But at the memorial, all their names are displayed on the wall. It's very emotional to see all those names and to think about what their families and friends must have gone through to learn about what happened to their loved one. It seemed like everyone there was respectful, including children. The memorial itself is not very large, so you can really take your time to look around and read before the next group disembarks and you can take that boat back. There are many other exhibits at the Pearl Harbor site, but as far as I know, they require some sort of entry fee/reservation. History buffs would love this and could easily spend hours looking at everything. Unfortunately I didn't have too much time, so I only went to the USS Arizona but I still enjoyed it and I thought it was very well done.

The park begins at the mouth of Pearl Harbor, which I believe is the best place to welcome home navy vessels and others from a long deployment. From the edge of the park, the body of water doesn't seem large enough for a Carrier to sail through, but it is! If you take a moment to look, you can see some pretty cool fish swimming around. The bike path is 1-mile long, so many of us like to walk, jog, run, and ride our bikes on the flat, paved course for a 2-mile round trip workout. Flanked by grass, tropical landscape, officer housing, and the ocean, it's one of the best places on the island to enjoy a lovely stroll at sunrise or sunset - even with your fur babies on leash. The Missing Man Formation memorial located on the south end of the park is a must see, as well as the smaller Air Force memorial located mid-way. There's also a small children's park and a large grassy area, which what I've seen, is great for folks to test out their new drones. The Officers Club and Wright Bros Cafe are located here, too. I'd recommend the cafe for breakfast or lunch. The club is a large venue for group events, such as a wedding, command ceremonies or holiday parties. If you ever get a chance to stop by, there's a large parking lot behind the O Club on the south end. Or approximately 10 spaces on the north end of the trail.
